Built to Last for High-Traffic Areas

Glue-on-Board (GOB) technology protects the LEDs from daily wear and tear. Its IP54 and IK06 ratings ensure resistance to bumps, dust, and moisture, making these displays ideal for busy public spaces like auditoriums and lobbies..

Chip-On-Board Technology

Chip-on-Board (COB) technology delivers ultra-fine detail with tighter pixel pitches and a smooth, uniform surface. By mounting LEDs directly to the circuit board, there are no exposed wires, just a clean, durable design that’s built to last. With IP54 dust and moisture protection plus IK08 impact resistance, COB stands up to tough environments.

Direct View LED FAQ

What is Direct View LED?

Direct View LED is a display technology that uses LEDs as the pixels to create vibrant, large-scale video walls. Unlike older displays that used LED backlighting behind an LCD screen, Direct View LED lets you see the LEDs directly—resulting in brighter images, better contrast, and seamless visuals across multiple panels.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What are the advantages of Direct View LED video walls?

  • Seamless Viewing Experience: Compared to tiled LCD displays, Direct View LED eliminates bezels for a more immersive look. Panels are factory-calibrated for color consistency and are easier to replace individually, simplifying maintenance.
  • Flexible Sizing & Layouts: Direct View LED video walls can be built in standard or custom resolutions and aspect ratios, giving you flexibility to match your exact visual and spatial needs.
  • Low Maintenance vs. Projectors: Unlike projectors, Direct View LED doesn’t require bulb or motor replacements, performs well in bright spaces, and even has mobile setup options for added versatility.

What types of Direct View LED solutions does ViewSonic offer?

  • All-in-One Designs: All ViewSonic Direct View LED solutions are All-in-One, making specification, installation, and operation easier for everyone—from IT to end users.
  • Indoor-Rated Performance: Designed specifically for indoor environments, these displays are built to handle high-traffic, high-usage settings with reliability.
  • Flexible Form Factors: Options include mobile, preconfigured, and custom-configured solutions to fit your space, workflow, and integration needs.

What is an All-in-One Direct View LED?

All-in-One Direct View LED displays include everything needed for a complete video wall—cabinets, LED tiles, power supplies, video processing, cabling, and mounting—all in one package. This simplifies purchasing, setup, and deployment for faster, easier integration.

What’s the difference between Preconfigured and Configurable solutions?

  • Preconfigured: These ViewSonic All-in-One Direct View LED displays come in fixed screen sizes (e.g., 136”, 165”, 231”) with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio and are offered under a single part number for easy specification.
  • Configurable: These solutions are custom-built for your space and needs—flexible in size, resolution, aspect ratio, pixel pitch, and layout. ViewSonic offers expert design support via our Field Solutions Engineering team and the LDC configurator to help build the perfect setup.

Why is “Mobile” a separate category?

While many Direct View LED displays can be mounted on a stand, ViewSonic’s LDS series of displays are purpose-built for mobility. These pre-assembled, foldable video wall on wheels designed for high-usage environments where flexibility is key—ideal for organizations that need to move one screen across multiple spaces. No permanent installation required.

TECHNOLOGY

What makes up a Direct View LED video wall?

A Direct View LED wall is made of tiles containing LEDs that form the pixels. These tiles fit into cabinets, which provide power and the image signal.

Cabinets are horizontally and vertically stacked together to create a seamless display. ViewSonic All-in-One solutions include everything—tiles, cabinets, power supply, video processing and mounts in a single SKU for easy specification, installation, and use.

What is pixel pitch, and why is it important?

Pixel pitch is the distance (in millimeters) between the centers of two adjacent LEDs. Smaller pixel pitches mean higher LED density, resulting in higher resolutions, especially important for close-up viewing.

Common pixel pitches include 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 1.8mm, and 2.5mm. ViewSonic offers pixel pitches as fine as 0.7mm, enabling 4K resolution in smaller screen sizes.

How do I determine the right pixel pitch?

  • Viewing distance is the most important factor.
  • Choose a smaller pixel pitch for close-up settings like classrooms and boardrooms.
  • Use a larger pixel pitch for areas with distant viewing, such as lobbies or auditoriums.
  • Budget also plays a role—larger pixel pitches are typically lower cost.
  • ViewSonic can help recommend the ideal pixel pitch for your space and use case.

What are the types of Direct View LED technology?

  • SMD (Surface-Mounted Device)
    • Most common and cost-effective option
    • Well-established, mature technology
    • LEDs are exposed—can be damaged with direct contact
    • Pixel pitches typically as low as 1.2mm
  • GOB (Glue-On-Board)
    • SMD technology with a protective glue coating
    • Significantly improved durability—resistant to impact, dust, and moisture
    • Ideal for high-traffic or public environments
  • COB (Chip-On-Board)
    • LEDs are mounted directly to the circuit board—does not use exposed wiring like SMD
    • Premium option with tighter pixel pitches down to 0.7mm
    • Similar durability to GOB, with a sleek, seamless surface
    • Ideal for close-range, high-detail applications

How durable are Direct View LED displays?

  • SMD displays have exposed LEDs, making them more prone to damage from direct contact.
  • GOB and COB technologies offer much greater durability with protective coatings or embedded designs. All ViewSonic Direct View LED solutions include either GOB or COB technology.
  • ViewSonic GOB and COB solutions feature IP and IK ratings, making them ideal for heavy-use environments where impact, dust, or moisture resistance is important.

What connectivity options are available for Direct View LED?

  • Similar to standard displays, ViewSonic Direct View LED includes HDMI inputs, USB playback, and support for Android-based apps.
  • An integrated video wall processor enables advanced features like Picture-in-Picture (PIP) and Picture-by-Picture (PBP) for flexible content display.
  • ViewSonic Direct View LED displays support Ethernet and RS-232 control for easy integration with AV control systems.

What is the lifespan of Direct View LED displays?

  • LEDs used in Direct View LED displays offer exceptionally long lifespans.
  • ViewSonic Direct View LED products are rated for up to 100,000 hours of use—often exceeding the system’s expected operational life.

VIEWSONIC DIRECT VIEW LED DISPLAYS

What are the power requirements for ViewSonic Direct View LEDs?

  • Power requirements vary based on screen size and pixel pitch. Larger screens and lower pixel pitches require more power.
  • Preconfigured ViewSonic Direct View LED displays typically require 1 x 20A circuit to 2 x 30A circuits at 120V.
  • Configurable Direct View LED solutions may require additional power for larger setups, but the typical range is 1 x 20A to 2 x 30A at 120V. Larger setups may require 240V and additional circuits depending on the configuration.
  • Power requirements are considered in the design and installation consultation provided by ViewSonic.

Where is the power supply and video processing in ViewSonic Direct View LEDs?

  • The control bar houses all power supplies and video processing.
  • For standard installation, the control bar is mounted underneath the display for seamless integration.

Can the power supply and video processing be separated from the screen in ViewSonic’s All-In-One?

  • Yes, the control bar can be installed separately from the display or hidden using optional installation kits, sold separately.
  • Configurable Direct View LED displays offer the option of a rackmount controller with power, allowing for additional flexibility in setup.
