ViewSonic Partners with TÜV SÜD to Develop the Testing of a Color Blindness Feature in Monitors

BREA, CA (December 17, 2020) – ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual solutions, and TÜV SÜD, the globally acclaimed safety and quality expert organization, announced the world’s first TÜV SÜD testing of a color blindness feature in monitors and have set a new test method for the electronics industry. ViewSonic’s color blindness feature consists of two modes – a color filter mode for color vision deficiency (CVD) users and a simulation mode for creators to deliver a color blindness friendly experience. These features are available in ViewSonic’s professional ColorPro™ models VP2468a, VP2768a and VP3481a monitors.

“ViewSonic is happy to partner with TÜV SÜD in developing this groundbreaking testing together. We are proud of the strides we have made in enhancing the user experience in the new world of high definition visual media,” said Bonny Cheng, COO at ViewSonic. “ViewSonic’s vision for the ColorPro series not only includes accurate color representation, but also helps and assists with the multimedia accessibility for CVD users. TÜV SÜD conducted rigorous tests on ViewSonic’s color blindness features, including color recognition confirmation, color filter software and color simulation, with the aim of establishing a high-quality testing method for the industry.”

“TÜV SÜD is focused on providing safety, security and sustainability solutions within organizations. TÜV SÜD and ViewSonic have taken the lead to define a new set of testing methods for the compatibility of monitors with color vision deficiency features. This revolutionary approach helps ensure that user enhancement is being accurately evaluated. It is a first for any monitor brand. We were happy to work with our partner ViewSonic on such a groundbreaking feature,” said Alex von Mylius, Product Certification Director of TÜV SÜD Global Product Service Division.

CVD test subjects were selected by TÜV SÜD, using the Munsell 100 Hue Test that identifies the zones of color confusion (Protanopia, Deuteranopia or Tritanopia). The subjects then tested ViewSonic’s monitors and the exclusive color blindness software. Compared to the traditional approach which only alters the overall combination of colors, ViewSonic’s color blindness feature’s algorithm alters most of the colors that are not identifiable by CVD users. The test result showed ViewSonic’s color blindness feature improved the ability of the CVD subjects to successfully identify color differences from 70-75% (on average) to 90%.

Creating a Color Blindness Friendly Experience

The color filter mode caters to users with CVD to help them identify images with enhanced color visibility. The CVD user can activate the color filter function via vDisplayManager™ and choose between two levels, the normal Color Filter and the Advanced setting filter. Both levels assist CVD users in customizing the display to enhance color visibility and identify a wide range of colored graphics more accurately. The Advanced setting filter can also be used to change the contrast level and set the best filters for the user’s most comfortable viewing experience.

The color blindness simulation, mode allows graphic designers to envisage their creations as it would be seen by a CVD user and adjust accordingly. This innovative technology benefits creators, designers, teachers, especially in preschool, as well as CVD users. CVD users can have a more friendly viewing experience as the content is created with the simulation mode.

The color blindness feature is now available in ViewSonic’s professional ColorPro monitor series - VP2468a, VP2768a and VP3481a. The ColorPro series serves as the ideal solution for creative work, such as photography, design, and video editing. They deliver color-accurate, true-to-life images with industry color standards including sRGB, calibration, and uniformity.

ViewSonic Provides QHD Support for Next-Gen Consoles

Brea CA, Dec. 10, 2020ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual solutions, today announced visual display solutions to support console gamers. With the recent launch of the PS5 console, and its lack of 1440p resolution output support, an urgent need arose among gamers. According to Sony, users will not be able to output a native 1440p signal, putting initial launch focus on 4K TV gamers. For hybrid (PC/console) gamers with QHD monitors, this results in downscaling to 1080p without a viable solution to experience high-resolution gameplay that is compatible with their current hardware.

In order to give past and present gamers the best experience possible, ViewSonic has optimized several QHD gaming monitors to effortlessly support 4K signals, while auto-downscaling to QHD resolution. This provides gamers with the best experience, without needing to activate troublesome modes, or complicated software.

ViewSonic Announces Winners of the ColorPro™ Award 2020 Global Photography Contest

Brea, CA (November 13, 2020) ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual and educational solutions, organized the ColorPro Award 2020 Global Photography Contest in cooperation with four leaders in the creative industry—Blurb, Shoot the Frame (STF), Tinyspace, and TourBox—centered on the theme of kindness, so as to promote compassion and beauty through creativity. ViewSonic received more than 2,100 extraordinary photo entries from 18 countries and regions, which offered visual representations of the ubiquity of kindness. ViewSonic announced the contest’s winners on November 13—World Kindness Day—through a global, live-streamed awards ceremony.

James Chu, Chairman and CEO of ViewSonic, said, “I’m delighted that this contest has elicited such a strong response among creators worldwide. During this difficult time of the COVID-19 pandemic, ViewSonic has worked with its partners to highlight stories of kindness from around the globe to provide some much-needed positivity. The contest has shown that, no matter how dramatic the changes to people’s lives have been, kindness is still all around us. I sincerely hope that people will continue to use photography to explore heartwarming stories of kindness.”

The top three entries in the ColorPro Award 2020 Global Photography Contest all conveyed heartwarming messages through their photography. The first-prize winner, Spain’s Antonio Aragon Renuncio, made a photograph titled Kindness of 14-year-old Kodjo in Bombouaka, Togo, who is helping a classmate with homework before a soccer game at a care center for children with severe physical and intellectual disabilities. The friendship and compassion shown by Kodjo help disabled children, who are often referred to as “snakes” in their local communities, enjoy normal lives.

Bangladesh’s Tanvir Alam has won the second prize for Harvesting Water Lily, which uses a bird’s-eye view to show a colorful image of harmony between man and nature, with two farmers working together to process water lilies. The third prize has been awarded to Singapore’s Chin Leong Teo for his photograph Drought Ladies. Shot from behind two women, the image shows the helplessness of people in the face of major natural disasters but also the warmth of the woman who consoles her sister in a powerful symbol of mutual support.

At the live-streamed awards ceremony, ViewSonic also invited Chen-Yu Chiu, CEO of the Taiwan-Reyhanli Centre for World Citizens, to share the photos of civic events held near the border between Turkey and Syria and to explain what kindness means to him. Chiu stated that “a grim concrete border wall was transformed into a Taiwan-built center that serves to convey kindness from the world to people in Turkey and Syria. Kindness derives from our close experience of the environment in which we find ourselves, as well as our innate compassion and empathy, and is accentuated by a little bit of craziness and persistence.”

Huai-An Ho, President of the HoHuan Theatre Company, which has held 660 free performances at hospitals and clinics over the past 18 years in Taiwan, also took part in the ceremony to share his views on kindness through two photographs. The first photo showed a Mazinger Z figure holding the hand of a little boy as they are about to enter a hospital room and perform for a young girl, demonstrating that kindness can help even the weakest among us be as strong as super heroes. The other photo showed a renowned Peking opera master who, despite his old age and dementia, can still sing the songs he performed during his long career, a touching symbol of persistence. Ho added that “cancer cannot be transmitted, but kindness can” and that “even if I’m unable to do great things, I can still show love while doing many little things.”

To further enhance the power of kindness, ViewSonic also launched a special event called “You comment, ViewSonic Donates,” which will last until January 13, 2021. ViewSonic invites people to take part in spreading kindness by going to the event page: https://lihi1.cc/FR9Xp/ColorProDonation leaving comments about or sharing one of the top 10 photos, explaining why they like the photo, or sending a message to the photographer. For each instance in which a message is left or a photo is shared, ViewSonic will donate US$1 to the HoHuan Theatre Company (Note 1).

ViewSonic has put the top 100 entries on the contest’s official website (https://colorproaward.shoottheframe.com/), allowing people to see kindness in all types of interactions between people, between people and animals, and between people and nature.

Note 1 The donation cap is US$10,000.

ViewSonic Donates 300 Raspberry Pi Thin Clients to Atlanta Schools, Boys and Girls Clubs the Odyssey Program and Johnson STEM Activity Center

BREA, CA (October 6, 2020) – ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of display solution products, in partnership with United Way of Greater Atlanta, has donated 300 Raspberry Pi Thin Client devices to schools and organizations supporting underserved students in the Atlanta metro area under the Empowering Future Generations initiative. The Empowering Future Generations initiative is designed to identify and support schools and organizations in need of technology resources for programs such as STEM and STEAM labs, SCALE-UP classrooms, robotics workshops and esports clubs.

“We are very proud of ViewSonic’s position as a global leader providing technology solutions that support creativity, communication and collaboration,” said Brian Igoe, senior VP of Sales at ViewSonic Americas. “With many schools employing virtual or hybrid learning this fall, we felt compelled to continue to encourage students and promote creativity. As an Atlanta resident, I see first-hand how much support is needed in certain counties, especially STEM,  STEAM and after school programs. This is the perfect technology for students to expand their imaginations and create with their peers while learning at home.”

ViewSonic worked closely with United Way of Greater Atlanta Senior Director of Volunteerism, Kisha Stanley, who facilitated the donation. “Now, more than ever, our teachers need extended resources to engage their students – both virtually and in-person,” says Stanley. “Thanks to ViewSonic’s generous donation, teachers and students across Greater Atlanta will be equipped with the tools they need to delve deeper into STEM projects in a creative and collaborative way.  Most importantly, we are able to provide technology to students who, in many cases, would not have had access to it under normal circumstances.”

Under the Empowering Future Generations banner, ViewSonic is focused on furthering the advancement of learning at all levels by providing professional expertise and innovative technologies in partnership with organizations that support students. With the abrupt shift to online teaching and the uncertainty surrounding going back to school safely, ViewSonic understands that working in education can be challenging right now. As such, the company developed myViewBoard™ Classroom to assist teachers, schools and districts with hybrid teaching and learning to make the transition as seamless as possible for both teachers and students. ViewSonic strives to support students both in successful hybrid learning environments and after-school clubs that allow them to use technology to connect, collaborate and create.
