ClassSwift: A Holistic Approach to Engagement, Assessment, and Responsive Teaching

By Owen Matson, Ph.D.

Every time I taught Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man in my AP 11th-grade English classes, I discovered new dimensions of the novel’s devastating beauty and profound complexity. My students, however, often struggled with its dense themes—identity, race, and societal invisibility. These topics sparked rich discussions, but it was difficult to know who was truly engaged and who was quietly struggling. Some students dominated conversations while others stayed silent, leaving me guessing who grasped the symbolism and who needed more support. Many educators can relate.

Back then, I didn’t have a tool like ClassSwift. I relied on exit tickets, short formative quizzes, and classroom discussions to gauge understanding. I might as well have been carving lessons into stone walls with burnt sticks and ochre. While discussions sometimes led to magical moments of insight, these methods were incomplete and time-consuming. Tracking participation and understanding in a structured way was nearly impossible. And honestly, the daily pile of exit tickets and quizzes felt endless.

If I had ClassSwift, those fragmented insights could have been replaced with clear, real-time feedback—showing exactly who was engaged and who needed help. No more guessing—just responsive, effective teaching. ClassSwift’s AI-powered question generation makes it easy to create diverse formative assessments, allowing students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through formats such as drag-and-drop activities, image-based prompts, and audio responses. Its robust reporting features, complete with instructional recommendations aligned with Common Core and state standards, would have helped me adapt lessons on the spot to address individual learning needs. Additionally, ClassSwift’s real-time translation feature supports second-language learners by enabling them to engage with content in their preferred language, fostering inclusivity and promoting equitable participation.

That may all sound a bit promotional—but it’s completely true.

And these features only scratch the surface. ClassSwift offers even more tools to support classroom engagement, formative assessment, and responsive teaching—far more than I can cover here. But even these core features could have dramatically improved how I taught and how my students learned.

Educators today still face the same challenge: balancing student engagement with meaningful, actionable insights to guide instruction. After years in the classroom, I tend to approach EdTech solutions with skepticism. Too often, interactive tools focus on boosting participation without revealing real understanding. On the flip side, many assessment tools emphasize data collection but neglect the collaborative, discussion-based teaching and learning that drives deeper thinking.

ClassSwift bridges that gap—helping teachers engage students while using data-driven insights to adjust instruction in real-time.

In what follows, I’ll step out of the first person to provide a more detailed breakdown of how ClassSwift delivers value for teachers, IT managers, and administrators. This post is the first in a blog series exploring ClassSwift’s full range of benefits. ClassSwift is like a Swiss Army knife for the classroom: Simple to use with just one tool in hand, yet capable of unfolding into a wide array of powerful features that support every aspect of teaching and learning.

What is EDLA Certification and Why It Matters for Interactive Displays in K-12 Classrooms

What is EDLA Certification and Why It Matters for Interactive Displays in K-12 Classrooms

By Owen Matson, Ph.D.

Has this ever happened to you? You’re preparing for a lesson and, to engage your students, you decide to use an interactive quiz from Kahoot! to review key concepts. You’ve set up your presentation in Google Slides, but now you need to integrate the results of the quiz into your lesson plan. So, you take a screenshot of the Kahoot! results, crop it, and manually paste it into your slide deck. But the data isn’t interactive anymore, and you’ve just spent valuable time wrestling with technology instead of focusing on your students.

If this sounds familiar, then you’ll want to know more about EDLA.

Yes, "EDLA" is yet another vague acronym from the world of technology and education—as if either of these fields were lacking for variations of acronymic obfuscation. But unlike many other buzzwords, EDLA stands for something that can directly improve your classroom experience, specifically when it comes to interactive displays and integrating educational technology. In this article, I’ll explain what EDLA certification is, why it matters for interactive displays in K-12 classrooms, and how it helps eliminate the type of tech headaches that all too often disrupt our teaching efforts. Let’s dive in.

What Is EDLA Certification?

Enterprise Device Licensing Agreement (EDLA) is Google’s way of giving certain Android-based devices—like interactive classroom displays (the ones you may use in your class)—a seal of approval. Let’s break this down a bit. First, “android-based” means the interactive touchscreen displays in your class run on the same operating system you might have on your smartphone or tablet. The interactive touchscreen displays you use in your classroom work on this same Android system. Because these displays share the same platform as your phone or tablet, you can use familiar Google apps and features without much fuss. However, to guarantee everything works smoothly in a school environment, Google has created this special certification process.

When a device is EDLA-certified, it means it has gone through rigorous testing to make sure it works smoothly with Google Mobile Services (GMS—yes, another acronym). Think of GMS as the backbone for many Google apps and features you already know, such as Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Chrome. If a device passes these tests, it’s a signal that you, your students, and your school’s IT staff can rely on it to open and run Google tools without glitches, crashes, or other technical hurdles. This reliability is especially important in the classroom, where lessons need to move along without unexpected tech issues. By using EDLA-certified devices, you can focus more on teaching and less on figuring out why the display or an app isn’t working.

To earn that certification, devices must prove they meet Google’s high reliability, compatibility, and security standards. This covers everything from how easily the device handles software updates to how quickly it launches apps. In short, EDLA-certified devices are designed to make classroom tech simpler and more dependable for everyone involved.

Key Testing Steps

Android Compatibility Test Suite (CTS)

  • Purpose: Ensures the device’s hardware and software can run Android apps (like Kahoot! or Quizlet) without crashes or slowdowns.
  • Classroom Benefit: Teachers and students experience fewer tech interruptions, keeping lessons on track.

Google Mobile Services Test Suite (GTS)

  • Purpose: Verifies integration with core Google apps (Play Store, Drive, Classroom) and adds security via Google Play Protect.
  • Classroom Benefit: Easy app installs, automatic updates, and reduced security risks—no extra steps or worries about compatibility.

Software Stability & Security Checks

  • Purpose: Confirms that frequent app updates, heavy classroom use, and real-world conditions won’t cause major device hiccups.
  • Classroom Benefit: Smooth performance and regular security patches, so you spend more time teaching and less time troubleshooting.

Manufacturer Hardware Stress Tests

  • Purpose: Some makers (like ViewSonic) add extra tests for durability, touch responsiveness, and overall build quality.
  • Classroom Benefit: A sturdier, longer-lasting display that handles daily wear and tear without mid-lesson failures.

Feel better about all those acronyms now? With EDLA-certified devices, you can focus on teaching—rather than memorizing a new alphabet soup. For teachers, the payoff of EDLA comes down to the following:

Why It Matters

  1. Seamless Integration
Easily open Docs, Slides, or Classroom on the display, make live edits, and share instantly—no file-format headaches or software conflicts.
  2. Consistent Performance
Fewer device crashes and smoother app usage keep students focused on learning, not on tech hiccups.
  3. Security and Updates
Automatic updates and patches ensure data privacy and reduce IT workload over the life of the device.
  4. User-Friendly Workflows
Teachers can rely on the interactive display to interact with content in real time, from annotating a Google Doc to showcasing a class-made slideshow.

Google Workspace Integration

One of the primary advantages of EDLA-certified interactive displays is their seamless integration with Google Workspace for Education. Whether it’s Google Classroom, Docs, Drive, or Sheets, all of these essential tools work together, without a hitch. Teachers can open assignments, share files, and collaborate with students directly from the display.

Imagine this: A teacher opens a Google Doc on the interactive display to show students how to complete an assignment. Instead of transferring documents between devices or worrying about software compatibility, everything needed for the lesson is already set up. There’s no need to manually upload files or check if they will open correctly—EDLA-certified devices allow you to focus on the teaching, not the tech.

Expanded Educational App Access

With EDLA certification, your interactive display goes beyond just Google tools. You can install and launch a variety of popular educational apps directly from the Google Play Store—including Kahoot!, ClassDojo, and Seesaw—all on the panel itself. This can simplify your workflow compared to using a computer or a basic Android-based screen where you’d typically connect an external device or switch inputs.

For instance, when giving a Kahoot! quiz, you could still run it from your computer hooked to a standard interactive flat panel—but that often means toggling between your computer screen, the IFP input, or dealing with extra wires and potential compatibility issues. On an EDLA-certified display, however, you can launch the Kahoot! app natively on the board’s built-in operating system. This allows you to:

  • Display live quiz questions and results without switching devices or inputs.
  • Quickly jump to another app or a digital whiteboard on the same panel (e.g., to review quiz answers or annotate a Google Doc in real time).
  • Minimize tech hurdles (like sideloading or external connections) since EDLA enables one-step app installs right from the Play Store.

In other words, the benefit isn’t just about running Kahoot! itself—it’s about simplifying the entire class flow. You spend less time juggling devices and more time engaging your students with interactive, on-panel activities.

User Experience

In addition to functionality, the user experience is a major factor in making technology work for teachers and students. EDLA-certified interactive displays provide a customizable interface, allowing educators to set up the device to suit their classroom needs. Whether it's quick access to Google Drive or launching a particular app, the device can be configured to enhance productivity and minimize distractions.

What’s more, EDLA-certified devices ensure that teachers and students won’t be bogged down by technical problems or interruptions. The devices undergo rigorous testing to ensure stability and reliability, so teachers can trust that the technology will work when they need it most.

Conclusion

EDLA certification offers K-12 schools and educators a reliable solution for integrating interactive displays into their classrooms. By ensuring compatibility with Google’s suite of services, providing access to a broad range of educational apps, and simplifying the user experience, EDLA-certified devices reduce the tech-related frustrations that can interrupt lessons and hinder student engagement.

The seamless integration provided by EDLA-certified interactive displays means that educators can focus on what they do best—teaching—without worrying about whether the technology will work as expected. As we continue to explore the role of EDLA in this blog series, it’s clear that this certification provides a practical and effective solution for enhancing both teaching and learning experiences in the classroom.

If you’re considering the adoption of interactive displays in your school or district, EDLA certification should be at the top of your list when evaluating potential devices. Explore our EDLA-certified display solutions and see how they can enhance classroom learning.

Designed with environmental responsibility in mind, this 65-inch ViewBoard series reduces the use of harmful chemicals, ensuring technological advancements while being mindful of the planet.

ViewSonic also promotes a responsible and transparent supply chain, which is another requirement in attaining an EPEAT Gold rating. The company assists its suppliers in establishing comprehensive environmental management systems and creating a Full Material Disclosure (FMD) to meet strict criteria. This involves disclosing the substances in the materials, components, and parts, ensuring the product meets the highest environmental standards.

“ViewSonic is committed to ensuring our products and supply chain follow and hold the highest sustainability and eco-friendly standards,” said Kenneth Mau, Director of Marketing Communications at ViewSonic Corp. “The fact that these IFP displays were able to obtain an EPEAT Gold rating in the signage display category is both an honor and a is a validation of what ViewSonic offers in terms of sustainability and eco- and environmentally friendly products.”

EPEAT evaluates electronic products based on their environmental impact, and the “Gold” rating signifies the highest level of environmental performance. Products with a Gold rating meet the most stringent sustainability criteria, including reduced hazardous materials, energy efficiency, and product longevity. Manufacturers and/or brands interested in participating in EPEAT must engage with a Conformity Assurance Body (CAB) and prove conformance with EPEAT criteria before their products can appear in the EPEAT Registry. CABs are experienced verification organizations that must meet ISO/IEC 17020 or ISO/IEC 17065 and fulfill EPEAT's eligibility requirements on an ongoing basis.

Brea, CA (July 09, 2024) – ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual and edtech solutions, was named as one of the 2024 Best Places to Work in Orange County. The awards program was created in 2009 and is a project of the Orange County Business Journal in partnership with Workforce Research Group.

This county-wide survey and awards program was designed to identify, recognize, and honor the best places of employment in Orange County, California, benefiting the county’s economy, its workforce, and businesses.

“To be receiving this honor for the fourth year in a row is an incredible accomplishment, and we are humbled and grateful that ViewSonic was named as one of the best places to work again in 2024,” said Jeff Volpe, president of ViewSonic Corp. “ViewSonic employees know they are the foundation of the company. As we’ve been honored for the fourth year, it demonstrates that everyone has a similar mindset in ensuring that ViewSonic remains an amazing company, for consumers, partners, and employees. As we grow and evolve as a company, ViewSonic will continue to promote innovation and positivity.”

The second part consisted of an employee survey to measure the employee experience. This part of the process was worth approximately 80% of the total evaluation. The combined scores determined the top organizations and the final ranking. Workforce Research Group managed the overall registration and survey process in Orange County and also analyzed the data and used their expertise to determine the final ranking.

The ranking of the winning organizations were released via a special section of the Orange County Business Journal’s July issue.

ViewSonic Introduces ClassSwift—an Innovative EdTech Software Solution to Empower Educators

ClassSwift Offers a Seamless User Experience and Allows Teachers to Create and Enhance Classroom Engagement

Brea, CA (June 24, 2024) – ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual and edtech solutions, introduces its innovative ClassSwift™ software. Designed to make any lesson plan or packaged curriculum resource instantly interactive, this software empowers teachers to create dynamic and real-time lessons using any format, gain insights into student comprehension, reduce prep time, enhance student engagement, and maximize learning. ClassSwift offers educators a way to create interactive, push-and-respond content, and can be easily integrated with their lesson planning.

ClassSwift can help transform interactive teaching by allowing teachers to engage with their students and simplify lesson planning, which can, in turn, facilitate quick comprehension checks and boost student involvement and participation. ClassSwift allows teachers to customize their materials and student evaluations. The software solution features comprehensive, real-time student performance insights, which can help teachers modify lessons and adapt new tactics based on learning preferences. A centralized dashboard is available so teachers can view individual class reports, such as attendance, assignment distribution records, and test logs, among others.

“ViewSonic developed the ClassSwift software solution to boost student interaction and allow teachers to engage students more easily,” said Haley Hunt, product manager at ViewSonic Corp. “Teachers can utilize the software to adjust their curriculums to meet the needs of their students and align them with the learning objectives. Lessons can be delivered in diverse quiz formats, and content can be tailored to individuals and groups. ViewSonic will continue to provide educators interactive tools to move forward with their digital education goals.”

With its intuitive interface, ClassSwift enables teachers to administer quizzes directly to their students’ devices in multiple formats, including single and multiple choice, true/false, and media responses like drawings and audio. The various response formats can meet different learning needs. The ClassSwift software also makes it easy to organize groups, using pre-made student lists. Teachers can also create groups for things like tutoring sessions and quick quizzes to check understanding.

The software was developed to work across different interactive displays, mobile devices, laptops, and desktops. The ClassSwift native app works with Windows-based environments, while the management portal, ClassSwift Hub™, can work with any operating system. The ClassSwift software and ClassSwift Hub will soon come with Artificial Intelligence [AI] features to assist in generating quizzes and provide lesson insights.

ClassSwift is available now for the U.S., with tiered pricing based on plan and duration. Special volume pricing is also available.

Seneca Polytechnic Advances Digital Strategies and Student Experience with ViewSonic Direct View LED 135” Mobile Display

Seneca Polytechnic Advances Digital Strategies and Student Experience with ViewSonic Direct View LED 135” Mobile Display

SCHOOL

Seneca Polytechnic is a multi-campus postsecondary institution located in the Greater Toronto Area and Peterborough, Ontario. It offers full-time and part-time programs at the baccalaureate, diploma, certificate, and graduate levels. Combining academic rigor with practical, professional and career-focused learning, Seneca Polytechnic provides students with a seamless transition from education to employment.

“Installation of the ViewSonic Direct View LED by Dot2Dot Communications, an AV digital signage integrator, was completed in January 2024, and feedback to date has been phenomenal. Both the President and Vice President have affirmed that ViewSonic was the right solution for Seneca.”

— Alvin Shum, Head of Enterprise IT Client Services

CHALLENGE

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • Upgrade an 86-inch display that was too small for a large meeting room, and also produced high screen glare

  • The school did not want permanent equipment installed, so a flexible installation method was needed

  • The chosen display technology had to enable employees to interact with content through a centralized system, with the ability to send out communications and alerts 24/7

Seneca Polytechnic’s CITE Employee Lounge was repurposed as a meeting space, but it lacked the technology to support presentations and sound. A temporary 86-inch display on wheels was deployed in the space, however, sun streamed through the large, south-facing windows throughout the day and created a blinding glare on the screen.

The challenge was to find a solution that offered functionality without compromising the lounge’s ability to host meetings. Permanent installations weren’t ideal, so a flexible approach was needed.

Seneca sought an immersive display technology that would allow employees to seamlessly interact with content. This solution also needed to integrate with a centralized system, enabling the broadcast of communications and alerts 24/7, regardless of the employee’s location.

SOLUTION

  • ViewSonic® LDS135-151 Direct View LED Mobile Display

In its search for more immersive display technologies, Seneca Polytechnic found ViewSonic’s innovative LDS135-151 Direct View LED display as the perfect answer through the recommendation of Dot2Dot, one of Seneca Polytechnic’s digital innovation partners.

“Dot2Dot considered several different traditional wall, ceiling and floor mounted LED options for the space, each of which presented their own set of installation challenges and extra costs,” said John Bostock, VP Business Development, Dot2Dot. “We fell in love with the ViewSonic LDS135-151 Direct View LED at first sight. An ideal solution for Seneca which eliminated all of the obstacles and costs with the traditional methods. The ViewSonic Engineering team has done a masterful job in designing the LED: quick setup, easy to use, great picture quality with integrated sound, and its portability providing Seneca with the versatility of being able to move the LED anywhere on Campus to support their student and open house events”.

This industry-first display ticked all the boxes for Seneca. The massive 135-inch display created an engaging viewing experience, while the LED technology, high contrast ratio and incredible brightness eliminated glare. This ensured clear viewing from nearly any angle within the room, important for a space that transforms from lounge to meeting area.

Beyond its physical attributes, the ViewSonic display integrated seamlessly with Seneca’s centralized IT infrastructure. This allows for effortless content interaction and the ability to broadcast communications and alerts 24/7, further enhancing employee engagement.

“Seneca Polytechnic chose the ViewSonic 135” Direct View LED based on the added functionalities it brings,” said Alvin Shum, Head of Enterprise IT Client Services. “It addresses challenges we had with viewing angles from the existing 86-inch TV display we previously had set up in the space. The older display was also not the right size for the room, and there were challenges with glare due to sunlight. The ViewSonic Direct View LED display has improved the viewing angles and eliminated the glare, greatly improving the viewing experience for those attending meetings in the space.”

RESULTS

Line drawing of a rocketLine drawing of a rocket
  • The large 135-inch screen size and minimal bezels of the Direct View LED created an immersive viewing experience

  • Direct View LED also had reduced glare for clear viewing from any angle

  • Seamless integration with central IT system for content delivery and communication

  • Enhanced employee engagement through improved content interaction and communication

Portability was also an important consideration in Seneca’s choice of the ViewSonic® Direct View LED display. Its pre-assembled design and foldable screen on a movable stand enables effortless transportation across multiple venues and all-in-one flexibility. Seneca Polytechnic can easily move the ViewSonic 135” display around campus or transport it to venues for industry tradeshows and conferences.

In addition, Seneca Polytechnic is using a Content Management System across its campuses with 219 BrightSign media players deployed – small devices that attach to the back of display panels and serve digital content. With media players connected behind every monitor, including the ViewSonic Direct View LED foldable display, Seneca Polytechnic’s marketing and communications teams now have centralized control and the ability to push content whenever and wherever it is needed.

“Seneca Polytechnic is making it easier for students and faculty to interact with content through our centralized and digital IT infrastructure,” said Shum. “Every student that attends our campuses brings at least one or two devices, and our facilities are equipped with the leading digital capabilities for students to easily connect and interact, enhancing the overall student experience.”

Shum continued on to add that the LDS135-151 was hailed as a successful installation choice by key administrators.

“Installation of the ViewSonic Direct View LED was completed in January 2024, and feedback to date has been phenomenal. Both the President and Vice President have affirmed that ViewSonic was the right solution for Seneca.”

— Evelyn Bardales, Academic Environments Director

CHALLENGE

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • Properly equip school faculty with modern tools and training

  • Create a more engaging learning environment

  • Finding equipment that could withstand the typically high temperatures in Ica and Chincha

Universidad San Juan Bautista, a private institution, faces ongoing challenges in the educational landscape. Their goal is to keep both students and faculty at the forefront of technology. To achieve this, they’ve implemented a program to train and equip teachers with modern tools.

Driven by continuous improvement and a vision of technological leadership, the university installed interactive displays in classrooms. This initiative aimed to create a more engaging and interactive learning environment, but they recognized it would require adaptation from everyone: administrative staff and faculty alike.

“It’s been an adjustment process,” says Evelyn Bardales, Academic Environments Director. “But our teachers have been very receptive and resourceful. They’ve gone beyond using the displays for basic presentations and videos, finding new ways to utilize them and make classes more engaging.”

Universidad San Juan Bautista emphasizes ongoing optimization of their educational processes, acknowledging technology’s vital role. “We constantly face challenges, but when it comes to student learning, we use technology to our advantage,” Bardales adds. “Interactive displays are a powerful tool to enhance our educational services, especially in a hybrid learning environment.”

SOLUTION

  • Implementation of ViewSonic® ViewBoard® interactive displays

  • Ongoing training of teaching staff

  • ViewBoard displays allowed for easy integration of student devices, fostering collaboration and a more interactive classroom environment

ViewSonic® ViewBoard® interactive displays fit perfectly with Universidad San Juan Bautista’s vision of technological leadership. This led to the acquisition and installation of ViewBoard interactive displays across their campuses in Lima, Chincha, and Ica.

The university deployed a total of 164 ViewBoard IFP8650 86-inch displays, and four ViewBoard IFP7550 75-inch displays. Notably, the 75-inch displays were installed in management offices. These also included VPC27-W55-O2 OPS units with powerful Ci7 processors, ensuring smooth operation and exceptional image quality.

It’s worth highlighting that Universidad San Juan Bautista boasts the largest network of interactive displays among private universities in Peru. This puts them at the forefront of educational technology and positions them as a highly equipped institution.

When selecting displays, the university prioritized models that could withstand the high temperatures typical of their Ica and Chincha campuses, along with factors like image quality and definition. ViewSonic ViewBoard interactive displays met these requirements perfectly.

“ViewBoard displays can handle the high temperatures of our town,” said Bardales. “This was a concern for our Ica campus, but the equipment has performed flawlessly.”

RESULT

Line drawing of a rocketLine drawing of a rocket
  • ViewBoard interactive displays and effective teacher training led to more dynamic and interactive classes
  • Combination of the highquality displays and fast internet created a smoother and more enjoyable learning experience for both students and educators
  • With the largest network of interactive displays among private universities in Peru, the school showed leadership in educational technology

The implementation of interactive displays, along with ViewSonic’s teacher training expertise, has resulted in a positive learning environment for both students and faculty. Students are enthusiastic about the change, enjoying more dynamic and interactive classes. The displays allow them to easily connect their devices to the learning materials, fostering a more engaging experience.

“The students love it! The displays have excellent resolution and clarity, and combined with our high-speed internet, there are no signal connectivity issues,” said Bardales. “Students can connect for group work, and teachers can leverage this ViewBoard technology to become more participatory, making the educational process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone. We’re very pleased with ViewSonic.”

This investment aligns perfectly with the university’s vision of having both teachers and students equipped with modern technological tools.

Colegio Anglo Español Levels Up Learning with Esports Room and ViewSonic Tech

COMPANY

Founded in 1990, Colegio Anglo Español began in Durango City, Mexico, offering preschool and elementary education. By 2005, the school had expanded to include secondary school, high school, and postgraduate programs – a Master’s in Education and a PhD in Education Sciences.

The focus on professional development continued, with the addition of two Master’s programs in 2019: Organizational Psychology and Administrative Engineering. A Doctorate in Innovation and Organizational Management was also introduced.

Colegio Anglo Español has consistently provided high-quality bilingual academic programs at all levels, from preschool to graduate studies. Their curriculum stays up to date, reflecting the needs of a modernizing world with a focus on economic growth and scientific and technological advancements.

To ensure they meet the evolving needs of both teachers and students, the institution has been investing in upgrading their facilities with technological equipment since 2022.

LogoLogo

“The teaching-learning processes need to be constantly updated. That’s why using cutting-edge technological tools from ViewSonic has become an indispensable necessity to keep students engaged and actively acquiring new knowledge.”

— Professor Héctor Enrique Arreola Ibarra, Assistant Principal of Colegio Anglo Español

THE CHALLENGE

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • Move beyond traditional computer labs

  • Replace outdated projectors

  • Design a dedicated teachers’ lounge

Driven by a commitment to continuous improvement and equipping students for global careers, Professor Héctor Enrique Arreola Ibarra, Assistant Principal of Colegio Anglo Español, focused on technological advancements and 21st-century skills development.

He envisioned creating an esports and video game room that would serve as a learning environment. This space would allow students to develop various digital skills, including programming, tailored to their grade level and age.

This initiative aligns with Colegio Anglo Español’s mission to provide students with a well-rounded education that goes beyond traditional academics.

Colegio Anglo Español’s project wasn’t solely focused on the esports room. They also aimed to strengthen student learning through regulated esports tournaments, ensuring a safe and controlled environment. Additionally, they addressed the aging classroom projectors by replacing them with new equipment that aligns with their existing educational programs. Finally, the project included creating a dedicated workroom for teachers equipped with innovative technological tools to support the development of dynamic and engaging lesson plans.

THE SOLUTION

line drawing of a jigsaw puzzle pieceline drawing of a jigsaw puzzle piece
  • 11 ViewSonic® XG240R gaming monitors

  • 6 ViewSonic® PS600W projectors

  • 1 ViewSonic® ViewBoard® IFP6550 interactive displays

The project came to fruition in 2023. The esports room is now equipped with 11 ViewSonic® XG240R gaming monitors boasting a high refresh rate and anti-eye strain technology, perfect for fast-paced gameplay.

Ibarra believes this program goes beyond just gaming skills. He sees it as an opportunity to cultivate critical thinking, logical reasoning, and problem-solving – valuable assets for any future career path.

“No matter what each kid will study later on, this is very useful for them,” said Ibarra. “The use of technology is increasingly necessary, regardless of our specialization or profession. With the Internet of Things, eLearning, Big Data, and Cybersecurity issues gaining traction in many fields, these skills offer opportunities for individuals, professionals, and those just starting their career paths. The sooner we can provide students with this knowledge, the better prepared they will be to make decisions regarding their professional future.”

ViewSonic technology played a key role in the upgrades. Classrooms received ViewSonic PS600W projectors, capable of projecting large screen images – ideal for educational settings. Ibarra praised the brand’s focus on educational needs and their excellent technical support. The teacher’s lounge also received an upgrade with a 65-inch ViewSonic ViewBoard® IFP6550 interactive display, currently used for administrative tasks and dynamic lesson planning. Ibarra envisions having similar displays in every classroom in the future.

RESULTS

Line drawing of a rocketLine drawing of a rocket
  • Introduced Mexico’s first academic esports room, fostering innovative learning and 21st-century skills

  • Upgraded classrooms with high-quality projectors for brighter, more vivid presentations that capture student attention

  • Create a modern teacher’s lounge equipped with interactive tools and applications to support lesson planning and enrich classroom experiences

The esports monitors at Colegio Anglo Español are more than just gaming equipment. They’ve proven to be valuable tools for developing essential skills in students, according to Ibarra.

“The monitors have helped build important skills like quick and strategic decision- making, and teamwork,” he said. “These skills are fundamental in the digital world and can be applied to other aspects of academic and professional life.”

Beyond skill development, the esports program fosters student engagement. The prospect of participating in tournaments creates a sense of community and belonging, boosting self-esteem and confidence.

But the benefits don’t stop there. Colegio Anglo Español uses the esports room to teach students crucial life lessons. This includes promoting healthy and respectful online interactions, building valuable skills like leadership and teamwork, and fostering respect among competitors and teammates.

Professor Ibarra emphasizes the importance of adapting teaching methods for modern learners. “The teaching-learning processes need to be constantly updated,” he said. “That’s why using cutting-edge technological tools from ViewSonic has become an indispensable necessity to keep students engaged and actively acquiring new knowledge.”

The choice of ViewSonic technology wasn’t random. Professor Ibarra highlights the brand’s quality, innovation, and excellent support: “The quality, cutting- edge technology, innovation and support of the ViewSonic equipment was a determining factor in our choice.” He adds, “Our experience has been highly satisfactory. Every time we use the ViewBoard, we discover and/or think of new uses for teaching purposes.”

Colegio Anglo Español’s vision is to continuously upgrade classrooms with the latest technology. This commitment positions them at the forefront of education and equips students with the skills they need to become well-rounded citizens and successful professionals in today’s tech-driven world.

THE CHALLENGE

  • Revamp its laboratories for practical work in the medical degree program

  • Replicate an installation seen at another university, but using cost-effective, high-quality alternatives

In order to modernize its medical curriculum, the university recognized the need to enhance its students’ practical training in surgery. To achieve this, they decided to replace traditional mannequins and props with a more advanced surgical simulator. This cutting-edge technology allows students to practice surgical procedures in a realistic, simulated operating room environment. This shift from static models to a dynamic simulator provides a more realistic and engaging learning experience for future surgeons.

THE SOLUTION

  • ViewBoard 75-inch IFP7550 interactive displays

In his quest to improve medical student training at UNIDA University, Alan Dioses, the Systems Director, visited a university medical school outside Paraguay. There, he was impressed by a surgical simulator that utilized interactive displays. While the cost of that specific setup was excessive, Dioses was determined to create a similar, yet more affordable, solution for UNIDA.

Partnering with an integration company, they identified the ViewSonic® ViewBoard® 75-inch interactive display, specifically the IFP7550 model, as the most suitable option. Two labs equipped with these displays were successfully launched at the Ciudad del Este campus two years ago. Due to the positive outcomes, UNIDA University is set to open two more labs at their Asunción location in the coming days.

RESULTS

  • Modernized laboratories using simulators to perform surgeries on virtual patients, allowing every student to become familiar with more real situations

  • Students are provided with a more “real life” experience by using ViewBoard interactive displays

  • Teachers in Ciudad del Este can easily show live examples using the simulator

UNIDA University has revolutionized its medical program’s practical lessons with the introduction of ViewSonic’s interactive displays. These large displays serve as a virtual surgical table where professors can perform simulated procedures on a digital patient. Students gather around the main display to observe the professor’s technique in detail.

The learning experience doesn’t stop there. Eight additional displays mounted around the room allow all students, regardless of their position, to follow the simulation closely. This immersive environment fosters a more engaging and realistic learning experience, mimicking the pressure and detail of a real surgery.

“Previously, we set up our classrooms with ViewSonic® projectors, so already knew about the excellent quality of their solutions. So when we set up the simulation rooms for the medical degree program in Ciudad del Este, we chose ViewSonic again for their interactive displays,” said Dioses. “There are now eight exclusive classrooms with ViewSonic ViewBoard displays where the graduate program classes are taught. Thanks to the ViewBoard interactive display, we can simulate treatment on virtual patients and students can do their practical work under life-like conditions.”

Marcos Paredes, ViewSonic’s Territory Manager for Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, expressed his satisfaction in supporting this innovative project. “At ViewSonic, we’re committed to providing the best products to meet our customers’ needs,” he said.
