The recent acquisition of AirWatch by VMware is not surprising in light of the industry’s growing mobile work force. As more enterprises invest in mobile devices and development of new software applications for their workforce, their respective IT organizations must have a way to secure and manage their employee’s mobile devices.

Traditionally, it’s been the device manufacturers that have provided the software tools to manage hardware devices. But PC and thin client manufacturers never really focused on mobile devices. And maybe it’s good for the industry that they didn’t. Because they probably would have limited their software solution to only their hardware, just as they’ve done with thin clients. Why should a company be locked in to a single hardware manufacturer’s products simply because of a software management tool?

ViewSonic has always supported open systems, and was first to implement the Android™ OS in thin clients.

Android 2.2 first introduced support for enterprise applications by offering the Android Device Administration API. The Device Administration API provides device administration features at the system level. These APIs allow developers to create security-aware applications that are useful in enterprise settings, in which IT professionals require rich control over employee devices.

It’s these APIs that have allowed companies such as AirWatch, Good Technology, Zenprise, and others to develop mobile device management (MDM) solutions. But why can’t an IT organization use the same software tools used to manage 1,000s of mobile devices to also manage their desktop devices?

This was the objective behind the Citrix and ViewSonic partnership to integrate Citrix® Worx Home™ within ViewSonic’s new smart display, or next generation thin client. Our new smart displays provide an IT organization the level of security and manageability from Citrix that they have come to trust over the years.

It’s expected that Google will continue to expand the Device Administration API in future releases of the Android operating system. And that desktop virtualization companies will extend their MDM solutions beyond mobile devices and on to the desktop.

New “VT” TV series product portfolio provides versatile connectivity options
and superior color performance

ViewSonic’s new VT TV series delivers extreme value by combining commercial connectivity features in a cost effective TV design.

ViewSonic’s latest Zero and Thin Clients fortify the company’s already strong VDI product line. These state-of-the-art cloud devices provide complete solutions for companies looking to effectively meet the demands of today’s changing computing environment. In addition, ViewSonic continues to transform the display market with price-competitive 4K Ultra HD devices and touch technology that aligns with today’s consumer expectations and business demands.

 VDI Technology

ViewSonic’s Smart Client solutions enable users to access their desktop accounts from nearly anywhere via a centralized server, and helps a business fully transition to its VDI strategy. The new zero client SC-Z56 is ideal for users seeking the richest possible virtual desktop experience. Certified for VMware^® Horizon View™, this highly secure zero client supports advanced 2D/3D applications and can drive up to four simultaneous full HD displays. Based on the Teradici^® Tera™ 2140 chip platform, this new zero client provides the fastest most efficient virtual desktops possible in a VMware® View™ environment. The SC-Z56 is ideal for high-end workstations, investment traders, or any users requiring multiple displays, maximum workspaces, and higher productivity.

The SD-T225 and SD-T245 integrated thin client displays are designed for organizations requiring a secure and easy-to-manage solution for their virtual desktop implementations. The devices are optimized for all of the major remote networking protocols, including Microsoft^® RDP with RemoteFX™, Citrix^® ICA/HDX, and PCoIP^® for VMware. The built-in 22” or 24” LED screen allows typical power consumption below 26 or 30 Watts, respectively, for a smaller ECO footprint. The SD-T225 and SD-T245 also provide feature-rich connectivity options, with four side-mounted USB ports for easy peripheral connection, and a DVI output for driving a dual monitor desktop.

Touch displays

The TD2430ml is the newest addition to ViewSonic’s Touch Display product portfolio featuring 10-point projected capacitive touch technology. Supporting both Linux and Windows operating systems, the TD2430ml is designed to be an excellent touch display for commercial environments. Designed with durable scratch-resistant screen with 7H surface hardness, this 24” display provides a fast and accurate touch experience. The TD2430ml is also great for general consumers with its Windows^® 8 compatibility and 10-point touch capability.

VX entertainment monitors

Following ViewSonic’s 4K technology demonstration at last year’s CES, the company is launching new displays with this ultra high definition resolution. The VX2880ml brings Ultra HD 4K2K resolution to desktop computing with a friendly price tag, as the display delivers stunning 3240 x 2160 resolution, 50M:1 MEGA Dynamic Contrast Ratio, and an ultra-fast 2ms response time for best-in-class screen performance. A PBP (Picture By Picture) function provides advanced multi-screen capability. Standard connection includes Display Port, MHL (HDMI), DVI and VGA.

As part of the bigger BYOD trend, both enterprise customers and general consumers are utilizing mobile devices in conjunction with their traditional desktop. The VX2876iml is a next-generation desktop display featuring Miracast™ technology, which provides wireless connectivity with Miracast-enabled devices featuring Android 4.2 or Windows 8.1 operating systems. This ensures users can wirelessly stream content from their mobile devices directly to the VX2876iml. In addition, the VX2876iml includes wired MHL connectivity option for quickly plugging mobile devices into the display for fast and smooth mirroring.

The VX2363Sml-W is the newest member to the ViewSonic VX63 Extreme Entertainment display family, designed with the consumer in mind. It features a white frameless design, SuperClear^® IPS panel technology for best-in-class screen performance, and an MHL port for flexible connectivity to MHL-enabled mobile devices such as smart phones and tablets.

Pricing and availability

• The SC-Z56, SD-T225, and SD-T245 will be available for sampling in May. Product launches targeted for June, 2014 with ESPs of $599, $375 and $419, respectively.


• The TD2430ml and VX2775Smh are scheduled to launch in Q2, 2014 with ESPs of $429.99 and $599.99, respectively.


• The TD2240 is scheduled to launch in January, 2014 with an ESP of $449.99.


• The VX2880ml is scheduled to launch in May, 2014 with an ESP of $999.


• The VX2876iml is scheduled to launch in Q2 2014 with an ESP of TBD.


• The VX2363Sml-W is scheduled to launch in April, 2014 with an ESP of $169.99.
