Fundada en 1956 como una institución laica, el Colegio y Liceo José Artigas se encuentra en la ciudad de Montevideo (Uruguay) y tiene una matrícula aproximada de 400 alumnos desde el preescolar hasta el nivel secundario.La escuela comenzó a funcionar el 7 de marzo de 1956 en la sala de estar de una pareja casada y, en un principio, se llamó "Escuela José Artigas".

El plan de estudios de colegio secundario se agregó en 1999 y se cambió el nombre de la institución a “Colegio y Liceo José Artigas”.

La escuela continuó creciendo. Con el correr de los años, agregaron una sala informática, un laboratorio, seguridad del edificio y del perímetro, y certificación de protección contra incendios.

En 2020, después de los hechos que provocaron la pandemia, la escuela efectuó una importante reestructuración técnica al expandir ampliamente la red informática y agregar 13 pantallas interactivas: 11 pantallas interactivas ViewSonic® IFP7550 y dos IFP6550, cada una de ellas asignadas a cada aula de la escuela.

Se organizaron programas de capacitación para el cuerpo docente de la escuela, lo que le brindó herramientas de vanguardia para ayudar a impartir las clases.La escuela pasó a ser el primer centro educativo de Uruguay certificado por ViewSonic en el uso de herramientas específicas para la enseñanza.

Problema

El Colegio y Liceo José Artigas quería implementar distintas soluciones de TI y nuevas herramientas de enseñanza que permitieran llevar a cabo el aprendizaje interactivo.

Para adaptarse a la realidad actual de sus alumnos, el Colegio y Liceo José Artigas decidió reemplazar las antiguas pizarras blancas y pizarrones por pantallas interactivas que contribuyen a desarrollar una experiencia educativa más optimizada, dinámica, interactiva y actual de forma sencilla.

Problema

Solución

El equipo de AV de ImageNet consideró la situación y recordó una solución que habían pensado para otro cliente: una configuración básica de AV para salas de conferencias montada en un carro móvil. Langston quería un sistema que ofreciera más complejidad, incluida una funcionalidad más robusta y materiales profesionales más duraderos.

“Nos preguntamos si podíamos crear un carro móvil que tuviera todo lo que ellos necesitaban”, dijo Ramsey. “Nunca lo habíamos hecho, pero pensábamos que era posible. El factor crítico sería brindar una experiencia destacable al usuario y, para eso, necesitaríamos el equipo adecuado.

Problema

En un breve período, FUeL atrajo a una gran cantidad de participantes.Al cambiar al popular Gaming League of Legends para el segundo año, los participantes pasaron a ser 185 en las 13 escuelas secundarias del distrito.El tamaño de la liga corresponde a la diversidad de los miembros, que incluye a muchas mujeres y estudiantes de educación especial, así como a los atletas masculinos tradicionales de los eSports. “Nuestra liga de eSports ofrece a más estudiantes una forma de participar, sentir y mostrar el orgullo por su escuela.Quizás estos niños no participarían en el equipo de fútbol, pero son superestrellas en los eSports”, señaló Soyinthisane.“Tienen uniformes, igual que cualquier otro atleta, y los usan con orgullo los días de Gaming.Se lo toman muy en serio”.

Ver a los estudiantes de la FUeL representar a sus escuelas en los torneos ejemplifica lo que los fundadores de la liga esperaban lograr.Otra cuestión es el aumento medible en la asistencia.Por ejemplo, entre los estudiantes de las escuelas de educación alternativa del distrito, un maestro informó que, después de que los estudiantes se unieron a la FUeL, su asistencia aumentó de un desalentador 25 % a un 92 %.

“Definitivamente, estamos llegando a más chicos y haciendo que una mayor cantidad de estudiantes sean más activos en las escuelas”, dijo Soyinthisane. “Es probable que estos chicos jueguen en sus casas. Ahora demuestran sus habilidades en la escuela”.

"Los entrenadores de los equipos también hicieron comentarios sobre la calidad de imagen", agregó Soyinthisane.

“Nuestros entrenadores son fundamentales en el éxito de la liga. Miran a los estudiantes jugar. Rebobinan el Gaming y lo repasan con ellos, al igual que haría un entrenador de un deporte tradicional después de un partido o de una sesión de entrenamiento”.

Soyinthisane y DiFilippo están de acuerdo en que sus esfuerzos por crear una liga dieron sus frutos más allá de las expectativas iniciales.

“La participación que logró este programa es increíble”, dijo DiFilippo.“Vimos un crecimiento fantástico con estos estudiantes en la interacción entre pares y el orgullo por la escuela.Nuestros atletas de eSports usan sus camisetas con entusiasmo los viernes.Los entrenadores suelen ser jóvenes —tienen entre 20 y 30 años— y pueden generar una conexión real con los estudiantes”.

Agregó que, una vez que se logra esto, todo lo demás se acomoda —mayor concentración en la clase, calificaciones más altas y mejor conducta— solo porque, al igual que sucede con otros deportes escolares, existen requisitos para la elegibilidad.

Actualmente, durante su segundo año de existencia, la FUeL ha llevado a cabo dos torneos cada año. El torneo de otoño solo está abierto a escuelas del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Fresno. En el torneo de primavera, participan equipos de otros distritos escolares que deseen competir en un estadio profesional.

“El torneo de otoño es enorme”, dijo Soyinthisane.“Armamos cuatro estadios un sábado, equipados con estaciones de Gaming y nuestros monitores ViewSonic.Tenemos comentaristas de Gamings electrónicos en todos los lugares.Queremos replicar todo eso en el torneo de primavera y hacer crecer el programa y mejorarlo para que participen más estudiantes”.

Más allá de eso, la FUeL espera poder crear un estadio de eSports exclusivo y continuar aprovechando el crecimiento de esta industria en desarrollo para ayudar a los estudiantes a generar la conexión entre su pasión por los Gamings y las posibilidades reales de una futura carrera y de oportunidades universitarias.

“Existen más de 200 universidades que ofrecen becas completas para atletas de eSports.Y hay oportunidades más allá de jugar, como programación, ser comentarista o los aspectos comerciales de este deporte”, dijo DiFilippo.“Vemos que los padres atan cabos y se dan cuenta de que la actividad puede indicar a sus hijos un camino a seguir en la vida”.

"Los planes de expansión incluirán monitores de Gaming ViewSonic", dijo Soyinthisane, quien atribuye parte del éxito de la FUeL al fabricante de monitores.
