dvLED Procurement Guide For Enterprise End Users and AV Integrators

dvLED Procurement Guide For Enterprise End Users and AV Integrators

1. What Is All-in-One dvLED?

Direct View LED (dvLED) is a display technology built from individual LED modules assembled to create large-format screens. Unlike LCD or projection systems, dvLED produces its own light. There is no backlight, no projection gap and no screen-door effect. The result is a display that delivers vivid, consistent image quality at any size.

The term All-in-One means something specific in the dvLED world. Most dvLED systems are component-based: the display cabinets, the processing unit, the power distribution and the control system are separate products that need to be designed, purchased and integrated together. That approach works for large-scale custom installations, and it adds cost, time and risk to nearly every other project.

An All-in-One dvLED system integrates all of those components into a single cohesive unit. Processing, power and mounting are built in. There is no separate media player or control box to source. You specify the display, you receive a complete system, and you install it.

ViewSonic’s entire dvLED portfolio is All-in-One. Every product ships as a complete, integrated system. No component sourcing. No system design from scratch. No surprise line items.

2. All-in-One vs. Component-Based: Why It Matters

If you are evaluating dvLED for the first time, you will encounter two fundamentally different approaches to building a system. Understanding the difference is the most important decision you will make in the procurement process.

Traditional component-based dvLED All-in-One dvLED (ViewSonic)
Separate cabinets, processor, power, control One integrated system with cabinets, power and processing included
Requires custom system design per project Pre-engineered. Spec a size, deploy the system
Multiple vendors, multiple SKUs Single SKU for most configurations
Complex quoting, hidden integration costs All-inclusive pricing, no surprise line items
Longer lead times, custom build required U.S.-stocked standard sizes, faster delivery
Higher integration risk Reduced project risk, U.S.-based deployment support included

For most enterprise end users and AV integrators, All-in-One is the right starting point. It reduces project complexity, shortens timelines and makes it easier to quote, approve and deploy at scale.

3. Key Buying Criteria

Whether you are an end user evaluating options for a boardroom, lobby or auditorium, or an integrator specifying a system for a client, these are the factors that matter most in a dvLED procurement decision.

3.1 Environment and Viewing Distance

Pixel pitch is the distance in millimeters between the centers of two adjacent LED pixels. It determines how close a viewer can sit before individual LEDs become visible. Tighter pitch means a sharper image at close range and a higher cost, so matching pitch to your actual viewing distance is one of the most important spec decisions you will make.

Use the 10x rule. Pixel pitch multiplied by 10 gives the approximate optimized viewing distance in feet. A 1.5 mm display looks right from about 15 feet, a 1.8 mm from about 18 feet. Run it in reverse to spec a room: divide the distance to your closest viewer by 10, and that is the coarsest pitch that still looks clean.

Environment Closest viewing distance Recommended pixel pitch ViewSonic series
Close viewing / fine pitch Under 7 ft 0.7 mm LDP
Boardroom, briefing center, control room 7 to 10 ft 0.7 to 0.9 mm LDP
Conference room 10 to 15 ft 0.9 to 1.5 mm LDP, LDE, LDM, LDC
Wayfinding, high-traffic 12 to 25 ft 1.2 to 2.5 mm LDE, LDM, LDC
Corporate lobby, atrium 15 to 25 ft 1.5 to 2.5 mm LDE, LDM, LDC
Auditorium, large venue 25 ft and beyond 2.5 mm LDM, LDC

Pixel pitch determines how close a viewer can sit before individual LEDs become visible. A useful rule of thumb: minimum comfortable viewing distance in feet is roughly the pixel pitch in millimeters times 10. Measure from the wall to your nearest seat, divide by 10, and that’s the coarsest pitch that will work in the room.

ViewSonic offers fine-pitch options for close-viewing spaces like boardrooms through coarser pitches built for large venues viewed from across a room. A Solutions Engineer will confirm the right pitch for your space before you commit to a quote.

Pixel Pitch Selection Guide

  • Do not over-specify. Tighter pitch costs more. If your closest viewer sits 20 feet away, a 1.2 mm display delivers no visible improvement over a 2.0 mm display at that distance.
  • Content type matters. High-resolution video and detailed data visualization benefit from tighter pitch. General-purpose presentations and digital signage perform well at looser pitch.
  • Ambient light affects perceived sharpness. In bright environments, ambient light reduces perceived resolution and brightness matters more than pitch. Every ViewSonic dvLED model delivers 600 nits with a 6,500:1 contrast ratio, or 10,000:1 on the Chip-on-Board LDP Series.
  • Future-proof modestly. Viewers move closer to displays over time as content density increases. A slightly tighter pitch than your minimum gives you headroom.

ViewSonic Solutions Engineers will validate your pixel pitch selection against your actual environment before you purchase, at no cost.

3.2 Resolution and Content Sources

Pixel pitch and native resolution are related decisions, not the same one. Pitch governs how close a viewer can sit. Resolution governs how much detail the display can show at all.

The LDS, LDE and LDM Series are 1080p. The LDP Series is 4K. For presentations, video and digital signage, 1080p across a large format is entirely appropriate. For spreadsheets, CAD, GIS, dashboards or any content where fine detail carries meaning, specify 4K. A boardroom that reviews financial models needs a different display than a lobby that plays brand video, even at the same size.

Confirm source count as well. Most series provide four video inputs with picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture support. The LDE Series provides two inputs without PBP or PIP, which matters if the room needs to show two sources side by side.

3.3 Screen Size and Aspect Ratio

dvLED screens are modular, so they can be built to virtually any size. That flexibility is powerful, and it adds complexity without a defined target. Start with your wall space and viewing distance, then work backward to the right size and aspect ratio.

  • 16:9 is the most common aspect ratio for corporate and enterprise use cases
  • Custom aspect ratios are available and typically require longer lead times and custom quoting
  • Standard sizes of 108”, 136”, 163”, 217” and 231” simplify procurement and are U.S.-stocked for faster delivery

One practical note for upper-floor installs. A 100-inch-plus LCD display often will not fit a standard elevator, which quietly rules it out above the ground floor. A dvLED arrives in crates and assembles in the room, so the building stops dictating the display size.

3.4 Durability and Protection Ratings

If your display will sit in a high-traffic area, near food service, or in a space where physical contact is likely, durability ratings matter.

  • IP rating measures dust and water resistance. IP54 is partial dust protection and splash resistance. IP65 is fully sealed against dust and water jets.
  • IK rating measures impact resistance. IK06 withstands a 1-joule impact. IK08 withstands 5 joules.
  • Glue-on-Board (GOB) and Chip-on-Board (COB) technology. Glue-on-Board encapsulates the LEDs and electronics in a thin epoxy resin layer, shielding against moisture, dust and physical impact while reducing light reflection and raising contrast. Chip-on-Board mounts LED chips directly to a substrate, delivering higher contrast and enabling sub-1.2 mm pitch.

GOB or COB protection is standard across every ViewSonic dvLED product, not an optional upgrade. Impact protection is IK06 on Glue-on-Board models and IK08 on Chip-on-Board. Ingress protection is IP54 or IP65 depending on model.

  • MIP (Micro LED in Package). Micro LED chips individually packaged before mounting, which supports ultra-fine pixel pitches with tighter color uniformity across the wall, higher contrast and optimized thermal management for long-term reliability. Built for premium installations where the display is the focal point of the room.

3.5 Installation Environment

Before specifying a system, confirm the following with your facilities or IT team.

  • Wall space and structural load. Confirm the wall can carry the system weight.
  • Power availability. Confirm circuit amperage and proximity to the install location.
  • Mounting depth and clearance. ViewSonic All-in-One dvLED mounts at approximately 2.7 inches deep, which keeps the display inside the 4-inch protrusion limit ADA sets for circulation paths. An LCD video wall at 6 to 8 inches deep does not.
  • Conduit and cable routing paths.
  • Ceiling height and access for installation equipment.
  • HVAC and ambient heat management near the display.

ViewSonic’s U.S.-based Solutions Engineers provide pre-sales site assessment support and can validate your environment before you purchase, at no additional cost.

3.6 Control System and Management

If your facility uses an AV control system, confirm compatibility before specifying any display. Every ViewSonic dvLED series supports:

  • Q-SYS Library Verified plugins
  • Crestron, Extron and AMX control via IP and RS-232
  • OpenAPI shared across the ViewSonic dvLED, commercial display and IFP portfolio
  • Software-free image stitching, factory-calibrated and ready from the box

For remote device management, the LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC Series include ViewSonic Manager, a free browser-based console for device status monitoring, batch enrollment, grouping by site or room, firmware updates and urgent alert broadcast. The LDE Series runs a simplified OS without Manager support, so if central management is a requirement, specify LDM or LDP.

3.7 Installation

dvLED installation is more involved than mounting a flat-panel display. Understanding what the process requires, and what your vendor includes, is essential before you budget and approve a project.

  • Site prep. Confirm wall structural capacity, power circuit availability and conduit routing before installation begins. ViewSonic Solutions Engineers can assess your site before you commit.
  • Mounting options. ViewSonic dvLED supports wall mounting, floor-standing and ceiling-mount configurations depending on product category and environment. Mobile LDS systems require no fixed mounting at all.
  • Installation supervision included at no additional cost. ViewSonic is on-site to support your team when it matters most.
  • Certified installer program. AV integrators can earn a ViewSonic dvLED Installation Certification through a two-day hands-on program at the Brea, California headquarters and in select U.S. cities. Certification provides CTS renewal units and prepares installers to deploy ViewSonic systems with first-install efficiency.

The first dvLED install always takes longer than the second. ViewSonic certification and on-site supervision give your team, and your integrator, that experience before they need it on a live customer job.

3.8 Serviceability and Warranty

dvLED displays are long-term investments, so how easily the display can be maintained over its lifetime belongs in the procurement decision.

  • Front-serviceable tiles. All ViewSonic dvLED tiles are accessible from the front. No rear access is required, which is critical for displays mounted flush to a wall or in spaces where rear access is impossible.
  • Hot-swappable design. Individual tiles can be removed and replaced without powering down the display, which minimizes disruption in mission-critical environments.
  • 5% spare tiles included. Every system ships with calibrated spare tiles equal to 5% of the total tile count. Spares are pre-calibrated to match the display, so a replacement does not require color recalibration.
  • GOB and COB protection shields LEDs from contact, cleaning products and daily wear, reducing tile damage and extending service intervals.
  • LED lifespan of approximately 100,000 hours. At 16 hours per day, that is roughly 17 years before LED degradation becomes significant.
  • U.S. support continuity. The same U.S.-based team that supported your pre-sales design and installation manages ongoing technical support. No offshore handoffs, no starting over with a new contact.
  • Warranty. Terms vary by product category. Your ViewSonic representative will confirm the term for your configuration in writing as part of the quote.

3.9 Total Cost of Ownership

TCO analysis for dvLED should span five to ten years. Purchase price is the starting point, not the picture

Cost category Component-based system ViewSonic All-in-One
System purchase price Lower upfront, integration adds cost All-inclusive, no hidden line items
Integration and design Significant, custom per project Minimal, pre-engineered system
Installation supervision Typically billed separately Included at no extra cost

When building a TCO case for internal approval, ViewSonic can provide supporting documentation. Contact your account representative or Solutions Engineer.

4. The ViewSonic dvLED Portfolio

Three categories, all All-in-One. The right category depends on your flexibility requirements, project timeline and budget.

Category 1: Mobile (Plug-and-Play)

BEST FOR: DEMOS, FLEXIBLE SPACES, QUICK DEPLOYMENT

The LDS Series is a foldable, self-contained dvLED system that requires zero fixed installation. Roll it in, power it on, present. It is the fastest path to dvLED for organizations that want the visual impact without committing to a permanent install.

  • Fourth-generation foldable All-in-One design, with improvements built from customer feedback
  • 136 inches, 1080p, 1.5 mm pitch, IP65 and IK06 rated
  • No wall mounting, conduit or structural work required
  • Ships in a reusable flight case, ready to use from U.S. stock

Category 2: Pre-configured (Fast Deployment)

BEST FOR: CORPORATE OFFICES, HIGHER ED, GOVERNMENT, LOBBY DISPLAYS

The LDE, LDM and LDP Series are standard-sized systems available as single-SKU orders. These are the right choice when you need a fast, low-risk path to a permanently installed display.

  • LDE Series. 108, 136 and 163 inches at 1080p, 1.2 to 1.8 mm. The cost-effective entry point. Simplified OS, so no ViewSonic Manager support and two video inputs.
  • LDM Series. 136, 163 and 217 inches at 2K+ or 4K, 0.9 to 1.5 mm. The mainstream choice for lobbies and large meeting spaces.
  • LDP Series. 163 and 217 inches at 4K, 0.9 to 1.2 mm Micro LED in Package (MIP) with 10,000:1 contrast. For boardrooms and control rooms where viewers sit close.
  • U.S.-stocked, shipping from California
  • Single part number simplifies quoting, purchasing and project approval

Category 3: Configurable All-in-One

BEST FOR: NON-STANDARD SIZES, UNIQUE ENVIRONMENTS, LARGE VENUES

The LDC Series provides made-to-order sizing while maintaining All-in-One architecture. If your space requires a non-standard aspect ratio or an unusual size, LDC delivers the fit without introducing component-based complexity.

  • Made-to-order sizing, 1.2 to 2.5 mm pitch
  • Two to three part numbers per configuration, not dozens of components
  • Designed for indoor applications requiring precise fit
  • Pre-sales design support included from ViewSonic Solutions Engineers

5. Use Case by Environment

Environment Recommended category Key considerations
Corporate lobby / atrium Pre-configured (LDE, LDM) High-traffic durability, ambient light, brand presence
Boardroom / executive suite Pre-configured (LDP) or Configurable Fine pitch at close range, 4K detail, control system integration
Auditorium / town hall Configurable (LDC) Large format, viewing distance, content versatility
Training / conference room Mobile (LDS) or Pre-configured Flexibility, ease of use, no fixed install
Higher ed lecture hall Pre-configured or Configurable Long-term reliability, sightlines, source count
Government / public sector Pre-configured See the note below on procurement compliance
Retail / digital signage Pre-configured or Configurable Ambient brightness, content management, durability
Command / control room Pre-configured (LDP) or Configurable Fine pitch, 24/7 reliability, pixel-level control

A note for government and public sector buyers

Public sector procurement adds requirements that do not appear in a spec sheet. Three worth raising early with your ViewSonic representative:

  • Supplier diversity. ViewSonic is a certified Minority-Owned Business, which counts directly toward supplier diversity requirements in federal, state, local and education procurement.
  • Accessibility. Mounting depth of approximately 2.7 inches keeps the display inside the 4-inch protrusion limit ADA sets for circulation paths.
  • Contract vehicles and sourcing requirements. Ask your representative to confirm current availability and compliance posture for your specific vehicle.

6. Questions to Ask Before You Buy

For end users evaluating a dvLED purchase

Before you issue an RFQ or engage integrators, make sure you can answer these.

  • What is the primary use case? Presentations, wayfinding, video wall, collaboration
  • How far away is the closest viewer? This sets the pixel pitch
  • What content will run on it? Detail-heavy content calls for 4K rather than 1080p
  • What are the wall dimensions and structural load limits?
  • What is the ambient light environment? Direct sunlight, controlled, mixed
  • What control systems are already in place? Crestron, Q-SYS, Extron, AMX
  • What is the full budget including installation, integration and ongoing support?
  • Is a permanent or mobile install required?
  • Who will manage ongoing support and maintenance?

For AV integrators specifying a dvLED system

  • Has the site been physically assessed for power, conduit and wall structure?
  • Is a standard-size pre-configured system sufficient, or does the client need custom dimensions?
  • What pitch does the closest viewing distance require? • Does the content require 4K, or is 1080p appropriate for the application?
  • Are there control system integration requirements?
  • Does the client need central device management? If so, specify LDM or LDP rather than LDE
  • What is the client’s timeline from approval to installation?
  • Is on-site installation supervision needed? Included from ViewSonic at no extra cost
  • Has the client approved All-in-One versus component-based architecture?

7. The dvLED Procurement Process

A dvLED purchase involves more steps than a standard display procurement. Here is what to expect from first contact through installation.

Step Phase What happens
1 Discovery Define use case, environment, viewing distance and budget. Engage ViewSonic Solutions for pre-sales support.
2 Site assessment Evaluate wall structure, power availability, conduit routing and ambient light. ViewSonic engineers assist remotely or on site.

9 Ongoing support U.S.-based technical support provides continuity from deployment through the life of the system.

8. Why ViewSonic All-in-One dvLED

100% All-in-One portfolio

ViewSonic is one of the only dvLED manufacturers with All-in-One architecture across the entire product line, at every size from 108 inches through 231 inches plus made-to-order. Their portfolios span both architectures, which gives integrators flexibility and also introduces a decision: buyers must work out which architecture they need, navigate multiple product lines and manage the system design requirements that come with each. ViewSonic’s portfolio is All-in-One only. There is no component-based option to specify, no multi-SKU system design and no fragmented quoting. For most enterprise projects that means a simpler procurement process, a faster path to deployment and less exposure to integration surprises.

Guided deployment

U.S.-based Solutions Engineers are involved from pre-sales design through installation and ongoing support: site validation, system drawings, on-site installation supervision and postdeployment technical support, all under one relationship rather than three.

U.S. operations and support

Mobile and pre-configured solutions are stocked in the U.S. and ship from California. The support team is U.S.-based, which means faster response and people who understand North American compliance requirements and project timelines.

Transparent, all-inclusive pricing

Pricing includes system drawings, shipping, on-site installation supervision and 5% spare tiles. No surprise integration charges. Budget approval moves faster and overrun risk drops.

Proven in corporate, higher ed and government

ViewSonic dvLED solutions are deployed in corporate offices, university lecture halls and government facilities across the Americas. The pre-configured category was specifically designed to fit these verticals without requiring custom builds or extended design cycles. You can also see working systems in person at ViewSonic demo centers across the U.S. and Canada, with your own content on the screen.

Most competitors require component-based design thinking. ViewSonic delivers solution-based simplicity across every tier.

9. Frequently Asked Questions

How do I determine the right pixel pitch for my space?

Use the 10x rule. Pixel pitch multiplied by 10 gives the approximate optimized viewing distance in feet, so divide the distance to your closest viewer by 10 to find the coarsest pitch that still looks clean. A 15-foot closest viewer suggests 1.5 mm or tighter. A 10-foot boardroom suggests 1.0 mm or tighter, which means the LDP Series. Solutions Engineers will validate the calculation against your actual room.

Do I need 4K, or is 1080p enough?

It depends on the content, not the size. Presentations, video and signage look excellent at 1080p across a large format. Spreadsheets, CAD, GIS and dashboards benefit from 4K because the detail carries meaning. The LDP Series is 4K. LDS, LDE and LDM are 1080p.

How long does a dvLED installation take?

A Mobile LDS deployment can be operational in minutes. A permanently installed preconfigured system typically takes one to three days depending on wall prep, cable routing and commissioning. Configurable LDC systems may require additional time. Installation supervision is included at no extra cost and helps first-time installs go smoothly.

Does ViewSonic offer installation support?

Yes. On-site installation supervision is included at no additional cost. The U.S.-based Solutions Engineering team provides pre-installation site validation, on-site supervision during the install and post-installation commissioning support. Integrators building a dvLED practice can also earn credentials through the two-day dvLED Installation Certification Program.

What control systems are compatible with ViewSonic dvLED?

Every series supports Q-SYS through Library Verified plugins, plus Crestron, Extron and AMX via IP and RS-232. The portfolio shares an OpenAPI across ViewSonic dvLED, commercial displays and IFPs. Image stitching is handled in the display, factory-calibrated, with no stitching software to license or configure.

Can I manage a ViewSonic dvLED remotely?

Yes on the LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC Series, which include ViewSonic Manager, a free browser-based console. Monitor device status, enroll displays in batches, group them by site or room, push firmware and broadcast alerts from one tab. The LDE Series runs a simplified OS without Manager.

How does ViewSonic dvLED compare to Samsung or LG?

Samsung and LG both offer All-in-One and component-based dvLED, so buyers and integrators have to determine which product line fits the project and then manage the design and quoting complexity that follows. ViewSonic’s portfolio is All-in-One only, at every size, so there is no architecture decision to make. ViewSonic also includes U.S.-based presales design support, on-site installation supervision and post-deployment technical support as standard rather than as billable services.

Can ViewSonic dvLED be used outdoors?

ViewSonic dvLED is designed for indoor use. Ingress protection of IP54 or IP65 depending on model, combined with GOB or COB encapsulation, gives real latitude in demanding indoor and outdoor-adjacent spaces such as covered entrances, atriums with exterior glazing, and areas exposed to cleaning and foot traffic. For any space that is not fully enclosed and climate-controlled, have the Solutions Engineering team assess the specific conditions before you specify.

How do I get started with a ViewSonic dvLED quote?

Contact ViewSonic Americas or your regional account manager. The Solutions Engineering team will engage within one business day to collect your environment details, viewing distance and project timeline, and provide a preliminary specification and pricing estimate.

How a Canadian School District Simplified IT Support Across 155 Classrooms with ViewSonic

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a Canadian School District Simplified IT Support Across 155 Classrooms with ViewSonic

What Challenge Was the District Trying to Solve?

This district set out to modernize its classrooms by replacing aging, non-interactive displays across 155 classrooms. The goal was to equip every room with identical interactive capabilities without overloading IT support staff.

Operating under provincial public procurement rules, the district issued a competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ) for 86” commercial and interactive displays.

Beyond initial prices, evaluation criteria focused heavily on system standardization, simplified IT maintenance and long-term operating costs.

What ViewSonic Solution Did the District Deploy?

The contract was awarded to an audio-visual integration partner bidding with ViewSonic, delivering an identical hardware kit for each of the 155 classrooms. In total, the district ordered:

  • 155 ViewBoard® 86” IFP86G1 4K OS-free interactive displays
  • 155 IFP-EW-86-05 extended warranty coverage for each display, extending coverage to 5 years total
  • 155 WMK-047-2 wall mounts with Mini PC bracket
  • 155 WPD-900 ViewShare wireless presentation systems

Choosing OS-free displays gave the district total control over its software setup. IT teams paired each 86-inch panel with their preferred Windows, Chrome OS or Android computing engine. Down the road, technicians can upgrade system performance simply by swapping out the PC module rather than replacing the display.

The rest of the kit completed the classroom setup, using custom mounts to hide cables, wireless casting to reduce cable clutter and five-year warranties to protect budgets.

Why Did the District Choose ViewSonic?

The contract was won through open competition against established display manufacturers.

What started as a standard request for display panels grew into a complete per classroom solution covering hardware, custom mounting, wireless presentation tools and multiyear protection.

Rather than forcing IT staff to source piecemeal accessories from different suppliers, ViewSonic and its integration partner delivered a single package built for reliable, daily classroom use.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does a Complete ViewBoard Classroom Kit Include?

The district's standard package pairs an OS-free 86” ViewBoard IFP86G1 interactive display with a WMK-047-2 wall mount, an integrated Mini PC bracket, a WPD-900 ViewShare wireless presentation system and extended warranty coverage. Deploying one identical kit per classroom simplifies installation, daily operation and spare parts inventory district-wide.

What Is an OS-Free Interactive Display?

An OS-free display like the ViewBoard IFP86G1 ships without a built-in operating system. Instead of being locked into factory software, IT departments can run Windows, Chrome OS or Android using their choice of slot-in PC or media device. Omitting onboard software reduces common network security risks while allowing IT to refresh computing performance years later without replacing the entire display.

How Do Teachers Share Their Screens Wirelessly on an OS-Free ViewBoard Interactive Display?

Teachers can connect using the WPD-900 ViewShare wireless presentation system, which provides full casting capabilities without relying on an onboard display OS or Wi Fi. The teacher plugs the USB-C transmitter button into their laptop or device, while the receiver module connects directly to the HDMI port on the ViewBoard interactive display. This creates an isolated, encrypted peer-to-peer connection from any Mac, Windows, Chromebook or mobile device without installing software or entering network passwords.

Why Bundle Extended Warranties Into a Classroom Display Purchase?

Bundling extended coverage aligns display protection with the actual expected life of classroom hardware. For public sector buyers managing school board budgets, locking in five full years of coverage upfront establishes total cost of ownership and eliminates unexpected repair expenses.

Making the Move: Transitioning to ViewSonic ViewBoard Interactive Displays

Buyer's Guide  |  Nov 12 2025

Making the Move: Transitioning to ViewSonic ViewBoard Interactive Displays

ViewSonic® ViewBoard® interactive displays are the centerpiece of a modern, connected classroom ecosystem built to replace aging, static technology. As the demand for dynamic, interactive classrooms grows, many districts find their current tools just aren’t keeping up.

Maybe you're moving away from projectors or an aging smart board. Maybe your current brand no longer offers the stability or service you need. Either way, ViewSonic offers a high-quality alternative. We don’t just provide a board for the front of the room. We offer a complete portfolio of interactive flat panels backed by strong support and seamless software integration.

Why Schools Are Upgrading to Interactive Displays

Education is shifting toward tech-enabled spaces that put the student experience first. Modern interactive technology needs to do more than display content. It needs to respond, connect and adapt. Modern schools are moving toward:

  • Personalized Learning: More classrooms need tools that let students engage with content at their own pace.
  • Seamless Tool Access: Educators need their everyday apps and platforms to work without technical hiccups.
  • Budget-Friendly Longevity: Districts want upgrades that hold their value over time instead of high-maintenance tech that needs constant repairs.

Signs It’s Time to Transition

If your current setup is causing more headaches than it’s solving, it might be time to look at your options. Common signs include:

  • Outdated Hardware: Projectors or older boards that aren’t bright or effective enough for a modern classroom.
  • Incompatibility: Systems that don’t play well with your current software or cloud platforms. Outdated firmware or a lack of USB-C and HDMI support makes it harder to keep up with the devices your staff and students already use.
  • Lack of Support: Frustration with vendors who don’t provide timely service or have moved to AI-only troubleshooting.
  • Missing Resources: Little to no training or professional development to help staff actually use the tech they have.
  • Vendor Financial Stability: A low price today doesn’t help if your vendor can’t support you tomorrow. When it’s time to refresh your technology, it’s worth weighing a company’s financial health along with its hardware.

What Is a ViewSonic® ViewBoard® Display?

Interactive displays have become standard equipment in classrooms, not an occasional upgrade. Teachers rely on them daily for lessons, collaboration and assessment, so panel quality matters. A display that lags, disconnects or breaks down creates more work, not less.

That’s where a ViewBoard display comes in. It’s a high-performance interactive flat panel built for real classroom use, with intuitive touch input and the option to add a slot-in PC for extra computing power. Think of it as a big display with interactive touch capability built for the realities of modern education. 2027 dvLED Buyer’s Guide for Enterprise IT and Facilities

2027 dvLED Buyer’s Guide

All-in-one dvLED is table stakes in 2027. Here’s what actually separates vendors: what’s in the quote, who owns the install and the 5 questions your RFP needs.

If you’re evaluating Direct View LED (dvLED) for a boardroom, lobby or large meeting space, the comparison that sorted this market two years ago no longer does.

All-in-one architecture used to be the dividing line. As of 2026 most major vendors ship at least one all-in-one model, so answering yes to that question no longer tells you much. What separates vendors now is what’s inside the quote and who owns the outcome when the display goes up.

This guide covers what dvLED is, how to pick a pixel pitch, what a complete quote includes, and the five questions your RFP should answer before it goes out.

What is an All-in-One dvLED display?

A dvLED display is a video wall built from an array of LED cabinets and tiles, where each individual LED is a pixel and the viewer looks directly at the LEDs rather than at a backlit panel. No bezels, and it scales to sizes and shapes a single flat panel can’t reach.

A traditional dvLED uses separate components for image processing and power. It allows deep customization, and it requires design expertise, specialized software for installation, and coordination between parts sourced separately.

An All-in-One (AiO) dvLED integrates the image stitching processor, power and mounting into the product. It’s easier to specify because everything is already included and compatible, simpler to install, and typically a lower price point. That’s why it became the default for boardrooms, classrooms and lobbies.

If every vendor has all-in-one now, what separates them?

Two things: how much of the line is actually all-in-one, and what the vendor takes responsibility for after the PO.

Coverage. All-in-one flagships tend to arrive in one or two fixed sizes. That’s fine until your wall isn’t one of them, at which point you’re back in a component design cycle. The ViewSonic® All-in-One dvLED portfolio runs all-in-one at 108”, 136”, 163”, 217” and 231”, plus made-to-order, configurable sizing.

Ownership. Integrated hardware says nothing about who validates the design, who supervises the install, who answers in month 14, or what any of that costs. That’s where quotes actually diverge, and no spec sheet will tell you.

Worth being direct about the rest of the field. Samsung, Planar and Absen still route significant parts of their lineups through component-based design. LG now offers all-in-one configurations, so with LG the comparison isn’t architecture, it’s the deployment model behind it.

What pixel pitch do I need for a boardroom or lobby?

Use the 10x rule. Pixel pitch in millimeters, multiplied by 10, gives the approximate optimized viewing distance in feet.

A 1.5mm pitch looks right from about 15 feet. A 1.8mm pitch from about 18 feet. Closer than that and you start to resolve individual LEDs, which is why a boardroom where people sit within a few feet of the wall needs a finer pitch than a lobby viewed from across the room.

Pixel pitch Optimized viewing distance Rooms at that distance
0.7 mm ~7 ft Boardroom, briefing center, control room
0.9 mm ~9 ft Small to mid conference room
1.2 mm ~12 ft Conference room, mid lobby
1.5 mm ~15 ft Large meeting space, lobby
1.8 mm ~18 ft Large lobby, auditorium
2.5 mm ~25 ft Atrium, large venue

Measure your closest seat before you choose, and have a Solutions Engineer confirm it against the room.

What does dvLED cost beyond the sticker price?

The quoted number is often not the full number. Integration, calibration, drawings, shipping and on-site support can each arrive as separate line items after the initial quote, particularly when cabinets, power and processing come from different sources.

ViewSonic uses all-inclusive pricing. Drawings, shipping and on-site installation supervision are in the quote rather than added later. That targets the biggest hidden cost in a dvLED project: change orders that surface mid-installation.

When you compare quotes, compare what’s included. A lower sticker price can finish higher once integration and support are added back in. For budget-sensitive refreshes, the cost-effective LDE Series is the entry point, with the tradeoffs noted in the tracks section below.

What should be included in your dvLED quote?

A dvLED display is a multi-year investment in your most visible space, so the support model carries as much weight as the hardware. A complete quote covers four things:

  • Pre-sales design validation. Size, pixel pitch, power and layout confirmed before purchase, not after.
  • On-site installation supervision, ideally at no extra cost, which reduces risk for whichever integrator handles the physical install.
  • Aligned technical support that carries from design through deployment to ongoing use, rather than handing off once the display ships.
  • Serviceability in writing. How tiles get replaced, whether spares are included, and the rated LED life.

Every ViewSonic dvLED project includes U.S.-based Solutions Engineers and on-site installation supervision at no extra cost, with aligned U.S.-based technical support from design onward. Every model uses front-serviceable, hot-swappable tiles, ships with 5% calibrated spare tiles, and is rated for roughly 100,000 hours of LED life.

Protection is standard rather than an upgrade: Glue-on-Board or Chip-on-Board construction across the portfolio, with IK- and IP-rated models.

Does dvLED integrate with Q-SYS, Crestron and Extron?

ViewSonic dvLED integrates into the Q-SYS Ecosystem through a Q-SYS Library Verified plugin, and is compatible with Crestron, Extron and AMX, with OpenAPI available for custom control. Power, volume and input switching run from the control system your AV team already uses. Image stitching is handled in the display, so there’s no separate stitching software to license or maintain.

The LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC series also include ViewSonic Manager, a free browser-based console for remote management: device status, batch enrollment by QR code, grouping by site or room, firmware pushes and urgent alert broadcast. Scheduling, zoned multimedia broadcast and remote desktop are available in Manager Advanced.

One exception worth catching early. The LDE series runs a simplified OS without Manager support. If central management is a requirement, specify LDM or LDP rather than LDE.

What are ViewSonic’s dvLED options, and which fits your project?

Three tracks, organized around how enterprise teams actually buy.

Option Series Sizes Resolution Pixel pitch Manager
Mobile LDS 136" 1080p 1.5 mm Yes
Pre-configured LDE 108", 136", 163" 1080p 1.2, 1.5, 1.8 mm No
Pre-configured LDM 136", 163", 217" 2K+ and 4K 0.9, 1.25, 1.5 mm Yes
Pre-configured LDP 163", 217" 4K 0.9, 1.2 mm Yes
Configurable LDC Made to order Configurable 0.9 to 2.5 mm Yes

Most boardroom and lobby projects land in pre-configured or configurable. If your space matches a standard footprint and timeline matters, a stocked model like the LDM Series moves faster. If your wall has a non-standard size or an architectural feature to design around, the Configurable LDC Series is built to your dimensions without giving up all-in-one simplicity. For spaces where the display needs to move rather than stay fixed, the foldable mobile dvLED display ships in a reusable flight case and sets up without tools.

One practical note for upper-floor installs. A 100”-plus LCD display often can’t fit a standard elevator, which quietly rules it out above the ground floor. A dvLED arrives in crates and assembles in the room, so the building stops dictating the display size.

What questions should your dvLED RFP answer?

Use these to compare vendors on equal footing.

  1. Is every model in the line all-in-one, or only some of them? Specifically: what happens if our wall isn’t a standard size?
  2. What’s in the quoted price, and what typically gets added as a change order later? Ask about drawings, shipping, calibration and supervision by name.
  3. Who provides pre-sales design validation, and is it included before purchase?
  4. Is on-site installation supervision included, and at what cost?
  5. What’s the plan if a tile fails? Are spare tiles included, are they pre-calibrated, and how fast can it be serviced?

A vendor who answers all five clearly and in writing before the RFP closes is showing you a lower-risk project. Vendors whose all-in-one offering covers only part of the lineup will find questions one and two harder to answer cleanly

Why consider ViewSonic for dvLED?

ViewSonic has spent nearly four decades in visual display technology, with U.S. headquarters in Brea, California and offices in more than 100 countries. All-in-One dvLED has been a dedicated line since 2020, and the engineering has kept moving. The foldable all-in-one dvLED line is now in its fourth generation.

Two things you can verify without taking a sales call. ViewSonic runs dvLED demo centers across the U.S. and Canada, including Brea, Fullerton and San Juan Capistrano in California, plus Atlanta, Charleston, Highland Heights, New York and Toronto, where you can see a working wall at real viewing distances and bring your own content. And the dvLED Installation Certification Program trains integrators at the Brea headquarters and in select U.S. cities through the year, which is what “guided deployment” means in practice rather than in a brochure.

Mobile and pre-configured models are stocked in the U.S. and ship from California, and the Solutions Engineers who design your project are the same U.S.-based team supporting it afterward.

Frequently asked questions about enterprise dvLED

What drives the price of a dvLED display?

Three things: physical size, pixel pitch, and whether the display arrives as a complete system or as components to integrate. Finer pitch costs more because it packs more LEDs into the same area, so buy the pitch your viewing distance requires rather than the finest available.

How long does a dvLED display last?

ViewSonic dvLED is rated for roughly 100,000 hours of LED life. Running 12 hours a day, that’s more than 20 years, which comfortably exceeds the refresh cycle in most enterprise environments.

Warranty is a separate number and a separate promise. ViewSonic dvLED carries a three-year standard warranty, extendable to five years. Rated hours tell you how long the LEDs stay serviceable. The warranty tells you how long the vendor stands behind the system.

Ask every vendor for both, because a long lifespan figure paired with a short warranty tells you where the risk actually sits.

What happens if a tile fails?

On ViewSonic dvLED, tiles are front-serviceable and hot-swappable, and every unit ships with 5% calibrated spare tiles. A failure is a tile swap from spares you already own rather than a service order and a wait, and because the spares are pre-calibrated the replacement matches the wall.

Can a dvLED video wall be managed remotely?

Yes on the LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC series, which include ViewSonic Manager. It’s browser-based and free, so there’s no software to install and no server to stand up. The LDE series is the exception, running a simplified OS without Manager.

Is dvLED better than an LCD video wall?

For most large-format applications, yes. An LCD video wall tiles multiple panels, so it shows visible seams, needs recalibration across panels over time, and requires removing an entire panel to service it. A dvLED has no bezels, uniform image from day one, and front-access module swaps. LCD video walls are also deeper and heavier, and large single panels frequently won’t fit a standard elevator.

How does ViewSonic compare to Samsung, LG, Planar and Absen?

All-in-one dvLED is no longer unique to any one vendor, so the differences worth comparing are coverage and commercial terms. ViewSonic ships all-in-one across every size from 108” to 231” plus made-to-order, so a non-standard wall doesn’t push you into a component design process. ViewSonic pairs that with all-inclusive pricing and U.S.-based Solutions Engineer support from design through ongoing use. Ask each vendor to confirm in writing which of their models are all-in-one and what their quote includes.

Pre-Configured vs. Configurable dvLED: How to Choose

Easy to Deploy, Easy to Share: The ViewShare WPD-900 Wireless Presentation System

A boardroom usually needs a pre-configured dvLED video wall. An odd-shaped lobby wall needs a configurable, made-to-order one. Here’s how to tell which fits.

Most buyers assume a Direct View LED (dvLED) video wall means a custom build by default: a design consultation, a made-to-order quote and a project timeline measured in months. That’s true for some spaces. It’s not true for all of them.

ViewSonic builds All-in-One dvLED displays on two fixed-install tracks for exactly this reason. If your space is a standard boardroom, conference room or lobby wall, a pre-configured All-in-One dvLED display ships in a standard size, on a single SKU, with no custom design cycle. If your space has an odd shape, a tight footprint or a specific aspect ratio, a made-to-order dvLED display is built for that exact wall.

Neither path asks you to piece together cabinets, processing and mounting from separate vendors. Every ViewSonic dvLED display is a complete All-in-One dvLED system out of the box.

Do I need a custom LED video wall, or is standard enough?

The better question isn’t what wall you have. It’s what your application needs.

If you’re displaying standard content at a common size and resolution, a pre-configured display delivers the same All-in-One experience with faster deployment and less complexity. If your application requires a specific size, aspect ratio, resolution or content canvas, a configurable display is the right answer.

Most manufacturers route every project through a custom design process whether it’s needed or not. A standard conference room ends up on the same timeline as a one-of-a-kind installation. ViewSonic separates the two paths so a standard space can be ordered like one.

Pre-configured vs. Configurable: what’s the difference?

Both are All-in-One systems, meaning cabinets, power, processing and mounting are integrated into one product rather than a set of components an integrator has to design around. The difference is how the display gets sized and ordered.

Pre-configured (LDE, LDM, LDP series) displays ship in standard sizes and resolutions as single-SKU, U.S.-stocked dvLED video walls. The design work is already done, so a pre- configured display skips the custom fabrication queue entirely.

The Configurable LDC Series is built to order for a specific space, sized to the wall rather than fit to the nearest standard option. A configurable order typically involves two or three part numbers instead of one. The All-in-One simplicity is identical. What changes is that the display is designed around your space instead of the other way around.

Pre-configured vs. Configurable, side by side

Both tracks carry the same protective-first build standard:

Pre-configured (LDE, LDM, LDP) Configurable (LDC)
Sizing Standard sizes and resolutions Made to order for your specific wall
Ordering Single SKU Typically 2 to 3 part numbers
Best fit Standard boardrooms, conference rooms, common walls Odd-shaped walls, tight footprints, specific aspect ratios
Design cycle None. Ships against a known configuration Built around your space and use case
Stocking U.S.-stocked, ships from California Built to order
  • Surface protection. Glue-on-Board (GOB), Chip-on-Board (COB) and Micro LED in Package (MIP) technologies, with IP- and IK-rated durability.
  • Serviceability. Front-serviceable, hot-swappable tiles, with 5% calibrated spare tiles included with every unit. A damaged section is a tile swap, not a panel replacement and a wait.
  • Longevity. 100,000 hours of rated LED life.
  • Resolution capability. Pixel pitch down to roughly 0.7 mm, which is what makes close-viewing spaces like a boardroom work at high resolution.

Does a boardroom need a different dvLED option than a lobby?

Usually yes, and it comes down to the shape of the wall rather than the importance of the room.

A standard conference room or boardroom is usually a pre-configured fit. Most boardrooms are built to conventional dimensions, so a standard size and resolution covers the space with no design work. It’s already stocked, so it isn’t waiting behind a fabrication queue.

A lobby wall is more often a configurable fit, and not because lobbies are more demanding. It’s because lobby walls are the space most likely to be an odd shape, a specific width-to- height ratio, or built around an architectural feature the display has to work with rather than replace. That’s the case for a dvLED video wall sized to the actual wall instead of the nearest standard option.

The short version: if you’d describe your wall as a normal size, start with a pre-configured display. If your first sentence about the space includes a caveat, an odd angle, a non- standard width or a column in the way, look at a configurable build.

What are ViewSonic’s LDE, LDM, LDC and LDS dvLED options?

ViewSonic organizes All-in-One dvLED into three series so a buyer doesn’t start every project from a blank design.

  • Pre-configured (LDE, LDM, LDP). Standard-size dvLED video walls in set resolutions, single SKU, U.S.-stocked. Built for fast deployment in conventional spaces.
  • Configurable (LDC). Made-to-order sizing for indoor spaces that don’t fit a standard configuration, with the same All-in-One design principle.
  • Mobile (LDS). A foldable mobile dvLED display that rolls in, powers up and presents, with no integration work at all. Built for spaces that need the display to move rather than stay fixed to one wall.

Together the three cover fixed standard spaces, fixed custom spaces and mobile use cases.

How fast can a pre-configured dvLED display ship?

Faster than a configurable build, because there’s no fabrication queue between the order and the delivery date.

A pre-configured display such as the LDM Series is already designed to a known size and resolution. They are stocked in, and ship from U.S. warehouses. A configurable display goes through a design and build process specific to that wall, which is the right trade-off when the space genuinely calls for it, but it also requires a 90-day lead time.

If timeline is your deciding factor and your wall is a standard size, that alone is often reason enough to start with a pre-configured display.

What’s included, and who installs it?

This is where dvLED projects usually go wrong, and it’s the part most comparisons leave out.

Every ViewSonic dvLED project includes U.S.-based Solutions Engineers, not a handoff to a third party. They do pre-sales design work on size, pixel pitch, power and layout, validate the application before you buy, and provide on-site installation supervision at no additional cost.

Pricing is all-inclusive. Drawings, shipping and on-site supervision are in the quote rather than arriving as change orders. Technical support after deployment is the same U.S.-based team, so there’s continuity from design through commissioning to year three.

Does ViewSonic dvLED work with Q-SYS, Crestron and Extron?

Yes. ViewSonic dvLED displays integrate with Q-SYS, Crestron, Extron and AMX, so a dvLED wall drops into the control system your integrator already runs instead of becoming a separate thing to operate. Power, input switching and source routing stay on the same touch panel as the rest of the room.

That matters most in spaces that are already automated. A boardroom where one button starts the meeting shouldn’t need a second remote for the video wall.

For fleet management outside the control system, the LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC series include ViewSonic Manager, a free browser-based console. From one tab your team can check on/off status, last connection and local IP, enroll displays in batches by QR code, group them by site or room, push firmware updates and broadcast urgent alerts. Scheduling, zoned multimedia broadcast and remote desktop support are available in Manager Advanced.

One thing to catch early: the LDE series runs a simplified OS without Manager support. If central fleet management is a requirement alongside control system integration, raise it during the design conversation so the series gets specified against both requirements rather than one.

The harder decision isn’t the display

Every ViewSonic dvLED display, pre-configured or configurable, is a complete system rather than a set of parts to design around. So the decision isn’t which display technology to buy. It’s matching the track to the wall, and that’s a question about your space and your timeline.

If you’re planning a boardroom, conference room or lobby project and aren’t sure which track fits, a ViewSonic Solutions Engineer will walk through sizing, pixel pitch and layout for your specific space before you commit to a quote.

Send us your wall dimensions and your install date.

We’ll tell you which track fits and what it includes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pixel pitch do I need for a boardroom?

Start with the rule of thumb the industry uses: minimum comfortable viewing distance in feet is roughly the pixel pitch in millimeters times 10. A 1.5 mm pitch reads cleanly from about 15 feet. A 0.7 mm pitch holds up from about 7 feet.

So measure from the wall to your nearest seat and divide by 10. That gives you the coarsest pitch that will work. A boardroom with the front chair 10 feet out has room for a 1.0 mm panel. A room where someone sits 7 feet from the wall wants 0.7 mm.

Treat it as a starting point rather than a specification. Content matters too, since dense spreadsheets and small type are less forgiving than video or branded graphics, and so does whether people will stand at the wall while presenting.

ViewSonic dvLED goes down to roughly 0.7 mm, which covers close-viewing spaces like boardrooms and conference rooms.

What happens if a tile gets damaged?

Tiles are front-serviceable and hot-swappable, and every unit ships with 5% calibrated spare tiles. A damaged section gets swapped from your own spares rather than waiting on a replacement order, and the spares are pre-calibrated so the swapped tile matches the wall.

The damaged tile then goes back to ViewSonic for repair and returns to your spare inventory once it’s serviced. So the spare pool replenishes instead of depleting with each incident, and the wall stays live through the whole process.

What’s included in a ViewSonic dvLED quote?

Drawings, shipping and on-site installation supervision are included rather than billed separately. Pre-configured displays order as a single SKU and configurable displays typically as two or three part numbers, so the quote is short in both cases.

Can a dvLED video wall be managed remotely?

Yes on the LDS, LDM, LDP and LDC series, which include ViewSonic Manager. It’s browser- based and free, so there’s no software to install and no server to stand up. Your team monitors device status, enrolls displays in batches, groups them by site or room, pushes firmware and broadcasts urgent alerts from one tab. How a Leading Canadian Law Firm Simplified IT Procurement with ViewSonic Docking Monitors

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a Leading Canadian Law Firm Simplified IT Procurement with ViewSonic Docking Monitors

What Challenge Was the Firm Trying To Solve?

A prominent Canadian business law firm was running into administrative and practical issues with its dual-monitor setups. Lawyers and staff worked across separate monitors, docking stations, external power bricks and cable adapters, with each desk collecting its own tangle of hardware. The firm wanted to move to a cleaner setup built on the latest docking technology. From a support standpoint, managing separate line items for monitors, docks and connection cables added unnecessary work for IT. The firm set out to consolidate its hardware into a single docking monitor SKU that could support a standardized two-screen layout, supply 100W power over USB-C and connect seamlessly to its corporate laptop fleet.

What ViewSonic Solution Did the Firm Deploy?

The firm standardized on 700 ViewSonic® 27” VG2758-2K QHD docking monitors, building out 350 dual-display workstations across both offices.

With a built-in docking station featuring 100W USB-C power delivery, an RJ45 Ethernet port and a five-port USB hub, each 27” monitor acts as a complete desktop hub.

Employees can connect their laptop to both screens, the wired network and desk peripherals using a single USB-C cable. Thanks to USB-C daisy-chaining, the two monitors link directly to each other, so only one cable is needed to connect to the laptop.

Beyond simplifying connections, the deployment improved daily physical comfort and long-term hardware management. Fully adjustable ergonomic stands let staff tailor screen height, tilt, swivel and pivot to fit their posture without requiring custom mounting arms.

On the operational side, EPEAT and Energy Star certifications support corporate energy targets, while a three-year limited warranty gives IT predictable long-term hardware reliability.

What Results Has the Firm Seen?

  • Consolidated IT procurement into a single monitor SKU across both offices.
  • Cleared desk clutter by eliminating standalone docks, external power bricks and redundant cables.
  • Enabled single-cable docking for power, dual QHD displays, network and USB peripherals.

By deploying the VG2758-2K, the firm replaced a cluttered multi-vendor setup with a streamlined workstation standard. IT teams now order, deploy and manage one part number instead of tracking three separate hardware components.

For attorneys and staff, starting the workday takes a single connection. Plugging in one USB-C cable charges the laptop, connects to the wired network and extends the workspace across two QHD screens. The lack of cable clutter keeps private offices looking sharp for client meetings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is a Docking Monitor and How Does It Replace a Separate Dock?

A docking monitor combines a high-performance display with an integrated dock, Ethernet port and USB hub. The ViewSonic VG2758-2K monitor supplies 100W of power over USB-C while routing network traffic and peripheral connections straight through the display, eliminating the need for a separate hardware dock, power brick or cable bundle.

Can a Laptop Drive Two Monitors Over a Single Cable?

Yes. The VG2758-2K supports USB-C daisy-chaining, which lets one monitor pass the video signal directly to the second display. The user plugs a single USB-C cable into their laptop to drive both monitors, access the network and charge their battery.

How Does a Docking Monitor Lower IT Overhead?

Combining the dock and display into a single SKU simplifies sourcing, inventory management and lifecycle support. IT teams can track one part number rather than managing separate monitors, standalone docks, dongles and power cables.

Does the VG2758-2K Support Laptops Without USB-C?

How Canadian School District NLSchools Standardized Classroom Displays and Projectors with ViewSonic

SOLUTION BRIEF

How Canadian School District NLSchools Standardized Classroom Displays and Projectors with ViewSonic

What Challenge Was NLSchools Trying To Solve?

As the public school system for Newfoundland and Labrador, NLSchools operates across one of the most geographically spread-out regions in Canada. Upgrading technology across a territory that size involves far more than unboxing new displays. Because the district was replacing its legacy interactive displays and annotation software, getting teachers comfortable with the new system was critical. That meant pairing a new software suite with hands-on training from day one.

From an IT perspective, supporting remote Labrador classrooms required cloud tools, simply because sending a technician on-site often meant booking a flight or a ferry. Adding to the challenge, several older school buildings featured unique structural layouts, including solid rock walls that ruled out standard hardware mounts.

What ViewSonic Solution Did NLSchools Deploy?

  • 820 ViewBoard® interactive displays deployed across the province, replacing older legacy hardware
  • 273 ViewSonic® projectors
  • OS-free IFPG1 Series displays paired with ViewSonic VPC Windows slot-in PCs
  • The complete ViewSonic education software suite
  • ViewSonic Manager Advanced for remote cloud management
  • BalanceBox specialized wall mounts for complex wall surfaces

Pairing OS-free ViewBoard IFPG1 displays with Windows VPC slot-in PCs brought flexible desktop computing directly into classrooms. Manager Advanced software provided IT admins remote access to classroom displays. For older facilities, specialized BalanceBox mounts solved structural hurdles by safely anchoring heavy gear directly onto solid rock walls.

Why Did the NLSchools Move to ViewSonic?

Replacing a brand that had been standard issue across Canadian classrooms for decades took more than a competitive price tag. NLSchools needed a partner that could solve their classroom software and geographic hurdles at the same time.

ViewSonic earned the district's trust because its displays, classroom software and cloud management tools functioned as a unified system.

To help teachers adapt, ViewSonic backed its software suite with direct, hands-on training, taking the stress out of moving away from legacy tools.

On the operational side, ViewSonic Manager Advanced software gave IT full control over displays in remote Labrador classrooms. Being able to monitor and update hardware remotely from a single dashboard eliminated unnecessary flight and ferry trips, saving significant travel expenses every school year.

How Did Microsoft-Restricted Funding Shape the IFPG1 Purchase?

NLSchools received a grant exclusively for Microsoft products. ViewSonic's OS-free IFPG1 ViewBoard offered a direct fit. Pairing the display with a VPC slot-in PC running Windows 11 Pro satisfied the grant requirement while equipping classrooms with a complete Windows system.

That modular setup also protects the district's investment over time. Instead of replacing an entire display when computing hardware ages, IT can simply swap in an upgraded PC module. By removing the operating system from the display itself, the district eliminated potential security backdoors into school networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Do School Districts Switch to ViewSonic?

NLSchools switched 820 classrooms to ViewSonic because the decision delivered a complete, long-term ecosystem. The district gained an interactive software suite backed by hands-on educator training, ensuring teachers didn't struggle during the transition off old annotation tools. On the operational side, centralized cloud management solved massive geographic hurdles by allowing remote updates for isolated schools. Ultimately, districts make the switch when they need intuitive software, reliable teacher adoption support and lower total cost of ownership across the hardware lifecycle.

How Do Districts Manage Classroom Displays in Remote Communities?

ViewSonic Manager Advanced provides cloud-based device management, so IT teams can monitor, update and manage ViewBoard displays remotely. NLSchools uses it to support schools across Labrador without sending technicians to communities reachable only by air or ferry.

Can Interactive Displays Be Installed on Nonstandard Walls?

Yes. NLSchools used BalanceBox specialized wall mounts to install ViewBoard displays in buildings with special construction, including rock walls and remote schools built with nonstandard materials.

What Is the ViewBoard IFPG1 Series?

The IFPG1 is a 4K interactive display built without an onboard operating system. Instead, districts add a slot-in PC that fits their exact network and security setup. How a Canadian E-Commerce Company Balanced Screen Size and Mobility With a ViewSonic dvLED Display

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a Canadian E-Commerce Company Balanced Screen Size and Mobility With a ViewSonic dvLED Display

What Challenge Was This E-Commerce Company Trying To Solve?

When a Canadian multinational e-commerce company opened a new training facility at its Toronto head office, the team needed a high-impact Direct View LED (dvLED) display for the main stage. They wanted the largest screen the room could accommodate. However, the space was designed to serve multiple functions, making a permanent wall installation impractical for their daily workflow. The setup needed to be adaptable, giving organizers the freedom to reposition the display depending on the event.

To address that need for flexibility, the company initially evaluated ViewSonic's 138” LDS138-151 foldable all-in-one dvLED mobile display, which is built specifically for mobile applications.

While it offered the portability the team wanted, 138” turned out to be too small for the scale of the space. That left the team with the challenge of finding a display that maximized screen real estate while still delivering true mobile functionality.

What ViewSonic Solution Did They Deploy?

  • ViewSonic® 163” LDE163G-182 All-in-One Direct View LED display
  • LD-STND-009 mobile stand with lockable caster wheels

Since the 138” model was too small for the room, the company and its AV partner looked for a larger All-in-One display that could still move freely. They landed on the 163” LDE163G-182 dvLED display mounted to a ViewSonic LD-STND-009 cart. At 163”, it hit the sweet spot by providing the largest screen size that could fit the training space while remaining fully mobile on a cart setup.

The panel features 600-nit brightness, a 6,500:1 contrast ratio and a 1.88 mm pixel pitch for clear viewing across the room. Glue-on-Board surface protection along with IP54 dust and water resistance and an IK06 impact rating protect the display in high-traffic environments.

Hot-swappable front modules make routine maintenance simple. For system control, the display works with Crestron, Extron and AMX, and carries a Q-SYS verified plugin so IT can connect the mobile display right into their existing AV control setup.

Why Did the Company Choose ViewSonic?

The team evaluated other top dvLED vendors, but none matched ViewSonic on price for a truly portable display. The combination of maximum screen size, smooth cart mobility and competitive pricing made it the right fit for the project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a Direct View LED display be mobile instead of wall-mounted?

Yes. ViewSonic all-in-one dvLED displays mount onto mobile stands with lockable caster wheels. That lets screens as large as 163” move easily between rooms and stage layouts. For smaller spaces, ViewSonic offers the 136" LDS136-152 foldable display on a motorized stand.

How large can a mobile dvLED display be?

Mobile displays can reach 163” on a cart, which was the maximum size deployed at the Toronto training center. Practical limits usually come down to ceiling heights, doorway clearances and hallway space. Always measure the entire route through the building, not just the destination wall.

What makes an All-in-One dvLED display easy to install?

All-in-One models like the ViewSonic LDE163G-182 dvLED display build power systems, controls and image stitching right into the cabinet modules. They also ship with the mounting hardware in the box. Integrators don't have to deal with the complex custom engineering of traditional LED walls, which keeps setup fast and straightforward. During this installation, the integrator's installers specifically praised the ease of setup.

Does a dvLED display integrate with corporate AV control systems?

Yes. The LDE163G-182 works with Crestron, Extron and AMX platforms. It also features a Q-SYS verified plugin along with RS-232 and LAN control. That lets IT teams manage a mobile display just like any standard room system.

ViewSonic ColorPro Standardizes Design Color Across Offices and Stores

SOLUTION BRIEF

ViewSonic ColorPro Standardizes Design Color Across Offices and Stores

CHALLENGE

A global retail brand runs an annual technology refresh across its corporate offices and physical stores. For this cycle the priority was visualization: giving design and product teams a display they could trust when they judge colors and materials.

Small differences in how a screen renders a color can change a decision. When teams at different sites worked on different displays, a material approved at one location did not always look the same at another. The brand needed one color reference everywhere, so a sign-off in one office holds up in the next.

SOLUTION

The brand deployed hundreds of ViewSonic® ColorPro® VP2756-4K monitors across its corporate offices and stores.

The ViewSonic monitors sit where color decisions get made. Design and product teams use them to review designs, colors and materials before approval, and cross-functional groups use them when everyone needs to agree on what they are looking at.

That type of work requires more from a display than a standard office monitor can deliver. Office monitors are not calibrated for color accuracy, so a design approved on one screen can look different on the next.

The VP2756-4K is built for the job. Every unit is individually factory calibrated and Pantone Validated, covers 100% of sRGB and Rec. 709, and holds Delta E value under 2. At 4K resolution on a 27-inch IPS panel, reviewers also see detail that earlier displays flattened.

“The color accuracy and level of detail offered by the VP2756-4K allow us to work with greater confidence when reviewing designs and materials, facilitating decision-making and collaboration across our teams.”

RESULTS

Design and product review teams now work from one shared color reference across every site in the project. Working from the same reference removed a recurring source of friction, where two reviewers looking at the same file described two different colors, and product approval cycles move faster because nobody is relitigating what the screen is showing.

The deployment did more than replace hardware. A color-critical display is now part of how design and product decisions get made. The result is more consistency, better accuracy and faster turnaround.

Classroom Screens: When to Choose a Projector Over an Interactive Flat Panel

Buyer's Guide  |  Nov 12 2025

Classroom Screens: When to
Choose a Projector Over an
Interactive Flat Panel

Interactive flat panels (IFPs) play a big role in modern schools, turning lessons into engaging, hands-on learning experiences. However, when you’re outfitting a large lecture hall or planning a district-wide refresh with a limited budget, you might have to look at other solutions.

That’s where projectors come in. When the goal is maximum visual impact per dollar, a high-brightness projector like the ViewSonic® LSD500HD laser projector is a better choice.

Interactive Display vs Projector: What’s the Difference?

Both interactive flat panels and projectors have a place in modern education. The right choice comes down to the size of the space, how the screen will be used, and what your AV budget allows for.

Here is a closer look at what each brings to the table.

Benefits of a Projector for Education

For venues like lecture halls or auditoriums or when your goal is maximum visual impact per dollar, projectors are the best choice. They come with several benefits for school environments:

They come with several benefits for school environments:

  • Large image size: Projectors like the ViewSonic LSD500HD can project up to a 300” screen, offering a lower cost-per-inch compared to other types of screens.
  • Brightness that holds up in daylight: Gone are the days of darkening the room to see a washed-out image. Projectors delivering over 5,000 ANSI lumens ensure vibrant, sharp projection across all campus spaces.
  • Flexible installation: Projectors can be installed in a wide variety of room configurations, including ceiling-mounted, portrait mode, or non-standard setups.
  • Wireless casting ready: Paired with a casting device like the ViewShare™ WPD-900, instructors can wirelessly share their content instantly, supporting BYOD environments without any app or network dependency.

Benefits of an Interactive Display for Education

Interactive flat panels are the premium option for active, small to medium-sized classrooms where interactivity and collaboration are central to the teaching approach.

Key benefits of these displays include:

  • Touch interactivity: Interactie whiteboards allow teachers and students to interact directly with content on screen, supporting hands-on learning and collaborative activities.

Final Thoughts

Choosing between an interactive flat panel and a projector isn’t about deciding which technology is better. It’s about matching the right tool to the right environment.

If your priority is improving collaboration in classrooms, an IFP is the clear winner. However, if you need to fill a massive space, outfit multiple rooms on a tight budget, or simply need high-impact visual delivery, a high-brightness projector like the ViewSonic LSD500HD provides unmatched value per inch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Your hardware shouldn’t dictate your physical space. From portrait mode setups for digital signage to floor projections for unique learning experiences, look for 360° rotation capabilities that open up new teaching possibilities.

How do I decide between an IFP and a projector for my school?

Here’s a quick rule of thumb:

  • Choose an interactive display for small to medium-sized classrooms where interactivity, group work, and integrated software would enhance the teaching and learning experience.
  • Choose a projector for large spaces like auditoriums and lecture halls requiring display sizes over 100 inches.

Do projectors require frequent maintenance?

Traditional lamp-based projectors require regular bulb changes. LCD technology-based projectors require air filter replacements. Modern LED and laser-powered DLP projectors, on the other hand, offer lifespans between 20,000 and 30,000 hours with no lamps or filters to replace.

Can a projector be used in a bright classroom?

Yes, provided it has sufficient brightness. Many modern laser projectors offer high ANSI lumen ratings (often 4,000 to 5,000+ lumens), allowing them to project clear, vibrant images even in rooms with ambient light.

Can teachers and students wirelessly stream content to a projector?

Yes. While interactive flat panels often include built-in wireless casting software, standard projectors can easily support wireless streaming when paired with a casting device, such as the ViewShare WPD-900 Wireless Presentation System. If you’re looking for more control and want to have Miracast and AirPlay disabled by default, choose the WPD-900E model.

What is the cost difference between an IFP and a projector?

Depending on the size of the display, a quality interactive flat panel typically ranges from a thousand dollars for entry-level models up to significantly more for larger sizes with advanced features. A high-quality laser projector, by comparison, can deliver a much larger image at a lower upfront cost. Additionally, the ViewSonic LSD500HD uses 62% less power than traditional lamp models, keeping energy bills low.

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a Pennsylvania School District Streamlined Campus Communications with ViewSonic

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • A Pennsylvania district needed reliable, standardized displays for both classroom learning and campus-wide communications.

“Teachers got intuitive tools for lesson delivery, while administrators secured a direct channel for campus announcements. Standardizing on one platform made planning, deployment and training easier for IT.”

CHALLENGE

A leading K-12 school district in Pennsylvania wanted to modernize its displays across classrooms and shared spaces. The team needed hardware that could support hands-on learning while providing a reliable network for visual messages across every school.

Existing tech varied by building, was getting unreliable and cost too much to maintain.

That gave the district a chance to standardize on one platform and equip teachers with tools built for active student participation.

At the same time, administrators wanted to boost daily announcements and safety messages in common areas to keep students, staff and visitors connected without breaking the budget.

The district needed a scalable ecosystem that was easy to roll out, manage and support. That led to its partnership with ViewSonic.

What ViewSonic Solutions Did the District Deploy?

The district chose ViewSonic for its broad lineup and consistent user experience across every room. The district’s reseller handled procurement while an installation partner managed the physical deployment across multiple schools.

The district deployed:

Complete Guide to Dual-Screen Portable Monitors | ViewSonic

Complete Guide to Dual-Screen Portable Monitors

A dual-screen portable monitor is a foldable external display with two built-in screens that expands a laptop into a multi-monitor setup.

This solution is useful for business travel, remote work, coding, presentations, financial workflows, content review or any task that would benefit from keeping multiple windows visible at once. The best models are easy to carry, connect through USB-C, support multiple viewing modes and clearly explain device compatibility.

In this guide, we’ll break down how dual-screen displays boost productivity, key features to look for, real-world setups for mobile work and more.

We’ll also explain why the ViewSonic® VG1457 is one of our top picks for a dual-screen portable monitor.

What Is a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor?

A dual-screen portable monitor is a single unit that folds open to reveal two separate screens, usually connected by a center hinge. That sets it apart from two other common setups people often mix up:

A single portable monitor adds one extra screen to a laptop. It’s a lighter, simpler setup than a dual-screen unit, and a solid fit for anyone who just needs one extra screen rather than a full three-screen workspace.

A laptop screen extender (the kind that clips onto the back of a laptop lid) adds a second screen physically connected to the laptop.

Because it’s tied to the laptop’s exact screen size, it can’t fold flat for travel the way a standalone dual-screen unit does. Most extenders rely on adhesive mounts, which make them a semi-permanent fit for one laptop rather than something you move easily between devices.

They also add weight directly onto the laptop and often need multiple cables depending on the laptop’s connectivity.

Dual-Screen Portable Monitor Use Cases

Business Travelers

Business travelers want an easy way to boost productivity no matter where work takes them. But when you’re constantly on the go, every extra charger becomes one more thing you have to carry around.

The ViewSonic VG1457 portable monitor solves this with an ultra-lightweight design with 65W two-way USB-C Power Delivery. Its dual 14-inch WUXGA screens give you an expanded workspace that requires just a single power source.

Hybrid and Remote Workers

Hybrid and remote workers frequently move between home, office desks and temporary workspaces, meaning they don’t always have an ideal setup. A dual-screen portable monitor gives them an instant multi-screen layout for emails, documents and spreadsheets, then folds flat to travel with them when work is over.

Sales, Customer Success and Field Teams

For sales, customer success and field teams, a dual-screen portable monitor simplifies client interactions and call management. Reps can compare quotes and specs side by side, or keep CRM notes visible on a second screen during a presentation. On the VG1457, Share mode turns the screens outward so two people sitting across a table can view the same content simultaneously.

Developers, Analysts and Finance Professionals

Financial analysts and developers rely heavily on multi-monitor setups, but lose that efficiency when working away from their main setup. A dual-screen portable display restores that multi-window workspace for professionals on the go.

Instead of constantly cycling through overlapping windows, they can keep key tools visible side by side, running code next to a live preview, keeping spreadsheets alongside dashboards or referencing documentation next to a terminal.

Creators and Review Workflows

For creators in the field, a dual-screen portable monitor works well as a secondary workspace for reviewing footage, referencing notes and scripts or keeping tool panels open next to a timeline.

If color grading, high brightness or OLED-level color performance is the priority, ViewSonic’s single-screen portable OLED monitors (like the VP16-OLED and VX1655-4K-OLED) are worth looking into.

Why Choose a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor?

A dual-screen portable monitor solves a simple problem: one laptop screen isn’t enough for serious multitasking. Here’s what two screens make possible.

Desktop-level productivity anywhere: Bring a true multi-monitor workflow on the go instead of downsizing to a single extra display.

An expanded canvas: Combine two panels into one larger workspace for deep-focus tasks.

Face-to-face sharing: Present across a table in Share mode without crowding around a single screen.

Two inputs, one unit: Run two separate devices side by side at the same time.

Features of a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor

A few setup details determine whether a dual-screen portable monitor will work with a given laptop or phone.

USB-C DisplayPort Alt Mode: This lets a single USB-C port carry a video signal, not just data and charging. It’s what most USB-C monitors, portable or otherwise, rely on to receive a picture from a laptop. Your laptop or phone needs a USB-C port that specifically supports DisplayPort Alt Mode for this to work, since not every USB-C port does.

USB-C Power Delivery: Power flows through that same cable, in either direction. That two-way flow means the cable can pull power from a laptop or power bank to run the monitor, or pass power the other way to charge the laptop when the monitor is plugged into an outlet. On the VG1457, dual USB-C inputs support 65W two-way Power Delivery.

HDMI vs. USB-C: HDMI carries video only, so a monitor that relies on HDMI alone needs a separate power cable. Some portable monitors offer HDMI as a fallback for laptops that don’t support DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C.

Drivers vs. Plug-and-Play: A plug-and-play monitor works the moment it’s connected. Others need drivers installed first, which adds setup time and depends on OS compatibility.

MST Limitations: MST (Multi-Stream Transport) is the technology that lets a single video output drive more than one display. This feature is unavailable on macOS and mobile devices due to MST limitations over USB-C. Only the lower display activates when extending on these devices.

Power Source: Options include a connected laptop, a wall adapter or a power bank with enough wattage to run the unit.

Display Modes Explained

Different portable monitors can offer different display modes. Here are some of the most popular ones explained.

Mirror Mode

Mirror mode shows the same content on the laptop and the monitor. It’s the simplest mode to set up and works well for demos, training sessions or presentations where separate windows on each screen aren’t necessary.

Extend Mode

Extend mode treats the monitor’s screen space as additional desktop rather than a duplicate of the laptop screen. On a dual-screen unit like the VG1457, that means the two panels function as extended workspace alongside the laptop, which is the mode most people reach for when multitasking is the goal.

Not every device can extend content across both screens of a dual-screen monitor because of MST limitations.

Dual-screen Extend mode isn’t available on macOS or mobile devices for the VG1457, since macOS doesn’t support MST via USB-C. Only the lower display activates when extending on those devices. Windows laptops generally handle it without issue, though MST support can still vary by specific hardware.

Full-Screen Mode

Full-Screen mode is different from Extend mode in one important way. Instead of treating the two panels as separate extended space, it merges them into a single continuous area. On the VG1457, that means both 14-inch panels combine into one 19-inch workspace, which works well for work that benefits from one larger screen rather than two adjacent windows.

Share Mode

Share mode turns the screens outward so two people can view them from opposite sides at once. It’s built for client meetings, interviews and small-group reviews, where someone needs to show something to a person across a table rather than share their own screen. In Share mode, the VG1457 uses a built-in G-sensor to auto-rotate the upper display, so its orientation adjusts automatically for the person on that side.

Dual Source Mode

Dual Source mode uses two independent USB-C ports to run two separate devices on screen at the same time. Whether that’s pairing a laptop with a smartphone or managing two laptops on one desk, it provides users with a live side-by-side view without juggling cables or input toggles.

Dual-Screen Portable Monitor vs. Single Portable Monitor

Feature Single Portable Monitor Dual-Screen Portable Monitor
Best For Streamlined single-screen focus Multi-window power workflows
Portability Lightweight, single monitor Two panels in one slim, foldable unit
Presentation Use Good for solo demos, one screen to share Better for two-person viewing via Share mode

Ideal Users Anyone who just needs one extra screen Business travelers, remote workers, analysts, coders, creators

Not sure which fits your workflow? Browse the full lineup of ViewSonic portable monitors, including single-screen options, to compare.

What to Look For in a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor

Screen Size and Resolution

Screen sizes on dual-screen units are typically dual 14-inch panels, like the VG1457’s dual 14-inch WUXGA displays, though single 14-inch and 15.6-inch models are common in the single-screen category.

Aspect ratio is almost as important as screen size. A 16:10 panel gives more vertical space than a standard 16:9 panel, which matters for reading documents, scrolling spreadsheets or following code top to bottom. WUXGA resolution (1920 x 1200) is the 16:10 counterpart to Full HD, with extra vertical pixels that come from the taller aspect ratio rather than a wider one.

The VG1457's 16:10 panels also pair cleanly with newer 16:10 laptops for a matching aspect ratio.

Weight and Thickness

Dual-screen monitors naturally add size, making total weight and thickness key considerations before buying. A practical setup needs to stay thin enough to slide into a bag alongside your laptop without taking over the whole compartment.

USB-C Power Delivery

Power Delivery over USB-C cuts down on cable clutter and eliminates the need to pack extra wall chargers. The most versatile monitors feature two-way power, meaning you can charge your laptop through the display when plugged into an outlet, or run the screens off your laptop battery when working away from a plug.

Compatibility

Before buying, check compatibility across Windows, macOS and mobile devices, along with USB-C Alt Mode support, MST limitations, HDMI fallback options and whether drivers or software are required. This is one of the most common sources of buyer frustration with portable monitors, since a unit that works perfectly on one laptop can behave differently on another.

Display Modes

Confirm the monitor actually supports the modes you need: Mirror, Extend, Full-Screen, Share and Dual Source. Not every portable monitor offers all five, and naming can vary by brand, so check the specs of the model you’re considering. The VG1457 does offer all five modes.

Ergonomics and Orientation

Hinge range, tilt, orientation and auto-pivot support can all affect how comfortable the monitor is to use day to day.

The VG1457 lists specific swivel, pivot and tilt ranges, including a 340-degree hinge for Share mode, and supports ViewSonic Display Portal and vDisplay Manager software for auto-pivot control, which automatically switches the display into portrait orientation when needed.

When a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor May Not Be the Right Choice

A dual-screen portable monitor is built for expansive productivity. It may not be the right fit if:

  • You only need one extra display, not two.
  • You do color-critical creative work that needs OLED or higher brightness than most dual-screen portable panels offer.
  • You want to play games and require a higher refresh rate.
  • Your device doesn’t support the USB-C display output the monitor requires.
  • You’re on a Mac or mobile device and expect full dual-screen Extend mode, which runs into MST limitations on those platforms.
  • You want one seamless larger screen instead of two hinged panels.
  • You want a wireless connection instead of a wired USB-C setup.

ViewSonic’s portable OLED monitors are designed for exceptional color accuracy. ViewSonic’s portable gaming monitors, like the 144Hz VX1754, can help players work hard and play harder on the go.

Want one continuous screen instead of two hinged panels? That same 17-inch VX1754 delivers a single larger display in a similarly portable design.

And for a cable-free setup, the VG1656N pairs a 16-inch display with built-in wireless casting, so you can skip the USB-C connection altogether.

How to Set Up a Dual-Screen Portable Monitor

Portable monitor setup varies between devices, but the sequence is largely the same across brands.

Step 1: Check your laptop ports. Confirm your laptop’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode, not just charging and data. This is the single most common reason why a portable monitor won’t display a picture.

Step 2: Connect power. Depending on the monitor, you can run it from the laptop itself, a wall adapter or a power bank rated for enough wattage.

Step 3: Choose your display mode. Pick Mirror, Extend, Full-Screen or Dual Source in the on-screen display (OSD) menu.

Step 4: Adjust orientation. Select landscape or portrait manually or enable auto-pivot using vDisplay Manager (downloadable from the ViewSonic Display Portal). Auto-pivot automatically rotates your display based on screen content and physical monitor position.

Step 5: Arrange displays in your OS. On Windows, use Display Settings to arrange screen order and orientation. On macOS, check for the Extend mode limitations covered above before assuming both screens will behave like an extended desktop. On mobile, confirm the device supports external display output at all before connecting.

Troubleshooting: Why Is My Portable Monitor Not Detected?

If a USB-C portable monitor isn’t detected, work through these steps in order:

  1. Confirm the USB-C cable supports video, not just charging or data. Not every USB-C cable does.
  2. Confirm the laptop’s USB-C port supports DisplayPort Alt Mode.
  3. Connect external power if the monitor needs it to turn on.
  4. Check for MST limitations if you’re trying to extend across two screens rather than mirror.
  5. Select the correct input on the monitor if it has more than one.
  6. Check your operating system’s display settings to confirm the second screen is recognized.
  7. Update firmware or software tools if the manufacturer provides them.
  8. Confirm a power bank is rated to deliver enough wattage if that’s your power source.

Why the ViewSonic VG1457 Is Built for Mobile Productivity

The VG1457 is ViewSonic’s first portable dual-screen monitor, built around the idea that a single laptop screen shouldn’t be the ceiling for productivity.

Two 14-inch WUXGA displays fold into a 2.6-lb setup that fits in a laptop bag, and open into 19 inches of combined viewing space in Full-Screen mode.

Five viewing modes cover everything from solo focused work to a face-to-face client presentation: Mirror, Extend, Full-Screen, Share and Dual Source. Two independent USB-C inputs mean separate devices can each run on their own screen at the same time.

A single USB-C cable handles the rest of the setup. 65W two-way Power Delivery keeps a connected laptop charged while both screens run, or lets the laptop power the monitor directly when there’s no outlet nearby. Connect over USB-C and both screens come on in seconds, with no drivers or software installation required.

The VG1457 ships with a protective sleeve case, includes dual built-in speakers and is backed by an industry-leading three-year limited warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dual-screen portable monitor? A dual-screen portable monitor is a foldable external display with two built-in screens that connects to a laptop, usually over USB-C, to add a multi-window workspace without a full desktop setup.

Are dual-screen portable monitors worth it? For anyone accustomed to a dual-display setup, yes. Coders, analysts, field teams and hybrid workers can see an immediate benefit simply by keeping critical reference documents, spreadsheets and emails open side by side.

Can a dual-screen portable monitor replace a desktop setup? For daily work, hot-desking and remote setups, yes. It gives you the full workspace of a dual-monitor desk setup wherever you choose to work, making it easy to handle spreadsheets, coding, video calls and heavy multitasking without feeling cramped.

Do dual-screen portable monitors work with MacBooks? Yes, but Extend mode across both screens is limited on macOS due to MST limitations. Mirror mode and single-screen usage typically work without issue.

Why does dual-screen Extend mode not always work on macOS? Extending a single video signal across two separate screens depends on MST (Multi-Stream Transport) support, which macOS handles differently than Windows. On monitors like the VG1457, only the lower display activates when extending on macOS or mobile devices.

Can I use a dual-screen portable monitor with two devices? Yes, monitors that support Dual Source mode let two separate devices each run on their own screen at the same time, which is useful for comparing systems or working from two laptops.

Do I need drivers for a dual-screen portable monitor? Not for a plug-and-play model. The ViewSonic VG1457, for example, connects over USB-C with no drivers or software installation required.

What is the best dual-screen portable monitor for business travel? Look for an ultralight device, a protective case, USB-C Power Delivery and a single-cable setup. The ViewSonic VG1457 weighs 2.6 lbs, ships with a protective sleeve case and runs on 65W two-way USB-C Power Delivery.

What is the difference between Mirror, Extend, Share, Full-Screen and Dual Source modes? Mirror duplicates the laptop screen. Extend adds workspace across both panels where supported. Full-Screen merges both panels into one larger screen instead of two separate windows. Share turns the screens outward for two-person viewing. Dual Source connects two separate devices at once, one per screen.

Why is my USB-C portable monitor not detected? The most common causes are a USB-C cable that doesn’t support video, a laptop port that doesn’t support DisplayPort Alt Mode or a monitor that needs external power to turn on. Working through each of these usually resolves it.

Is OLED better than IPS for portable monitors? It depends on the job. OLED panels, such as ViewSonic’s OLED portable monitors, generally offer deeper black levels and wider color coverage, which matters for color-critical creative work. IPS panels are typically lighter, less expensive and well suited to general productivity.

What cable do I need for a dual-screen portable monitor? You’ll need a full-featured USB-C cable that supports video output (DisplayPort Alt Mode), not just standard charging. If you plan to pass power through the monitor to charge your laptop, check the cable’s wattage rating too. USB-C cables are rated in fixed tiers, typically 60W or 100W, so a monitor drawing up to 65W (like the VG1457) needs a cable rated for at least 100W to deliver its full Power Delivery.

Eye care and ergonomic features are designed to help reduce potential discomfort during extended viewing, but individual experiences may vary. How a Commuter Rail Agency Captures More Rider Attention with ViewSonic Direct View LED Displays

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a Commuter Rail Agency Captures More Rider Attention with ViewSonic Direct View LED Displays

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • Static posters weren’t capturing riders’ attention the way the agency wanted.

“The agency can switch out creative in seconds and run multiple ads in rotation, maximizing the revenue potential of station walls. Advertisers gain higher visibility, while the agency eliminates paper waste and manual labor.”

CHALLENGE

A major U.S. commuter rail agency needed a better way to display advertising across its stations. Station walls are filled with ads meant to grab the attention of daily commuters, but the messaging needed to be big and bold to work.

The agency’s previous setup fell short. Printed wall posters, no matter how well designed, weren’t catching riders’ eyes. They needed signage captivating enough to hold attention in a busy station.

The solution was a bigger, brighter, dynamic display. The agency set its sights on a large-format Direct View LED (dvLED) video wall that could turn static ad spots into high-impact visual experiences.

What ViewSonic Solution Did They Choose?

  • 3 ViewSonic® 136” LDM136-151C All-in-One Direct View LED displays

Partnering with CDW, the agency chose three ViewSonic LDM136-151C displays.

Because each 136-inch All-in-One display ships under a single part number, everything needed for setup arrived in one package. That made specifying, buying and installing straightforward. ViewSonic won out over alternative options by offering the right balance of size, brightness and overall value.

ViewSonic’s dvLED technology was ideal for the busy station environment. A seamless Full HD picture with 600 nits of brightness and a 10,000:1 contrast ratio keeps ads crisp under harsh lighting. For durability, Chip-on-Board (COB) technology brings IP54 dust resistance and IK08 impact protection to heavy foot-traffic areas.

Maintenance stays simple as well, thanks to front-serviceable LED modules and a control bar that detaches to mount up to 30 feet away.

Why is a Direct View LED Display a Strong Fit for Station Advertising?

Paper posters lock stations into fixed messages that demand time-consuming reprints to update.

A 136” dvLED display transforms that same wall space into a bright, dynamic visual footprint. The agency can switch out creative in seconds and run multiple ads in rotation, maximizing the revenue potential of station walls. Advertisers gain higher visibility, while the agency eliminates paper waste and manual labor.

What Outcomes Does the Agency Expect?

  • A bigger, bolder ad display that captures rider attention where static posters failed to generate traction.
  • More impactful placements for advertisers shifting from printed posters to large, bright LED displays.
  • A durable, low-maintenance solution built for busy public stations, featuring IP54 dust and moisture resistance, IK08 impact protection, front- serviceable modules and 100,000-hour rated LEDs.

SOLUTION

Drywall alone is not a structural mounting surface and must never be used as the sole means of support; proper wall suitability, structural reinforcement, load-bearing capacity, and professional installation using commercial-grade mounting hardware are the sole responsibility of the customer, installer, or system integrator. ViewSonic assumes no liability for equipment damage, property damage, or personal injury resulting from incorrect installation or failure to comply with local codes. Performance, security, compliance, and sustainability outcomes may vary depending on agency requirements and environmental factors.

How a School District in Oregon Standardized 600+ Classroom and Campus Displays on a Single ViewSonic Platform

How a School District in Oregon Standardized 600+ Classroom and Campus Displays on a Single ViewSonic Platform

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • An Oregon district needed to replace outdated projectors and consolidate several legacy display brands onto one standardized platform.

“ViewSonic won on display size, functionality, product lineup breadth across interactive and commercial displays and centralized management.”

CHALLENGE

An Oregon school district secured voter-approved bond funding to replace its aging classroom displays. Many rooms relied on legacy projectors with frustrating wiring, while other spaces used a mix of piecemeal visual tools.

Teachers couldn’t count on a consistent experience from room to room, which created extra work for IT staff. Managing the old hardware wasn’t efficient either, since technicians had to stand directly in front of each display to push basic updates.

The district needed a unified strategy to standardize hardware across classrooms, offices and common spaces. Leaders wanted a partner that could support clear digital signage in hallways and cafeterias while offering centralized remote management for hundreds of endpoints.

What ViewSonic Solution Did the District Deploy?

The district deployed:

  • 461 ViewBoard® IFP8651 (86”) and 46 IFP6551 (65”) interactive displays.
  • 7 CDE8631 (86”), 71 CDE7531 (75”) and 39 CDE5531 (55”) commercial displays for signage.
  • ViewSonic Manager Advanced™ software 5-year licenses (MVBM_ADV_5Y01) for centralized management of touch and non-touch displays.

The rollout standardizes nearly every classroom on 86” ViewBoard IFP8651 interactive displays, using 65” IFP6551 units in specialty spaces. Offices and staff areas were upgraded from an originally planned 65” to 86” as well.

ViewSonic commercial displays are going into hallways, select offices and cafeterias for digital signage, replacing a mix of legacy brands and static USB setups.

The district manages the whole setup through ViewSonic Manager Advanced software, which pushes firmware updates and digital content across interactive and commercial displays from a secure, cloud-based dashboard.

Why Did the District Choose ViewSonic Over Other Display Brands?

The district ran a head-to-head comparison between ViewSonic and other display brands. ViewSonic won on display size, functionality, product lineup breadth across interactive and commercial displays and centralized management.

Using ViewSonic’s Manager Advanced software to manage touch and non-touch hardware means IT staff no longer have to walk up to individual displays just to update firmware.

What Results Has the District Seen?

  • Replaced outdated projectors and troublesome wiring with a standardized, streamlined display environment across the district.
  • Consolidated four to five legacy display brands into a single, uniform ViewSonic platform across classrooms and common areas.
  • Standardized on one management platform, Manager Advanced software, for both interactive and commercial displays.

Installation is underway across all schools in the district, and early feedback from the technology team has been positive.

Consolidating multiple aging setups onto a single ViewSonic platform simplifies day-to-day management for IT while giving teachers and students a consistent experience everywhere on campus.

How a South Carolina District Swapped Discontinued Displays for ViewSonic ViewBoard Interactive Displays

SOLUTION BRIEF

How a South Carolina District Swapped Discontinued Displays for ViewSonic ViewBoard Interactive Displays

line drawing of a circular mazeline drawing of a circular maze
  • A school district needed a replacement for its 500 interactive displays that had started failing.

“The myViewBoard® ecosystem changed how educators teach. Instead of being left idle, digital whiteboarding tools and the ability to import lesson plans meant that ViewSonic displays saw daily usage during lessons.”

CHALLENGE

This South Carolina district invested in roughly 500 interactive displays from a previous vendor in 2021 and 2022, expecting them to last five years under warranty. Instead, the hardware started failing rapidly in year three.

To make matters worse, the vendor exited the interactive display market entirely, leaving the technology director with no official path for repairs or replacements.

IT admins had to convince the school board to reinvest in a dependable district-wide replacement much sooner than planned.

The district turned to its integration partner, which recommended the ViewSonic® ViewBoard® IFP50 and IFP51 series of interactive displays as the most cost-effective and reliable answer.

The IFP50 and IFP51 series both feature a stunning 4K touchscreen and access to ViewSonic’s award-winning myViewBoard software. The IFP51 series goes a step further with Android™ EDLA certification, unlocking verified Play Store access and a wider range of Google Mobile Services-compatible apps for teachers to bring into the classroom.

Because the district was reinvesting early, the evaluation focused on two requirements: the new setup had to be budget-friendly, and it had to last.

Several neighboring districts were already using ViewSonic solutions through the same partner. After a trial run and on-site demos, the district decided to move forward with ViewSonic

What ViewSonic Solution Did the District Deploy?

The district’s integration partner had a strong track record of placing ViewSonic hardware across South Carolina, making it a natural choice to replace the failing displays.

Success stories from nearby schools helped reassure the board during the evaluation process.

The district deployed a complete hardware and software package:

  • 445 75” ViewBoard® IFP50 4K interactive displays, including 210 IFP7550 models and 235 IFP7551 models.
  • ViewSonic Manager Advanced™ software with a 7-year license, one per display.
  • A 7-year ViewSonic® extended limited warranty that protects the entire investment.

The rollout spanned two generations of ViewSonic’s ViewBoard interactive displays. The district began in 2025 with the IFP7550. When that model reached end-of-life the following year, the district moved to its successor, the IFP7551, for the remaining displays.

ViewSonic honored the original pricing on its newer models, so the district was able to finish its rollout without going over budget.

Why Did the District Choose ViewSonic Over the Incumbent Platform?

Price and reliability drove the decision, but the 7-year warranty sealed the deal. After watching its previous fleet break down early with zero manufacturer support, the district wanted a partner that would stand behind its hardware.

That warranty proved reliability as much as it offered peace of mind.

Software made a big difference too. Teachers found the old displays clunky, often using them as nothing more than glorified projectors. The myViewBoard® ecosystem changed how educators teach. Instead of being left idle, digital whiteboarding tools and the ability to import lesson plans meant that ViewSonic displays saw daily usage during lessons.

What Results Has the District Seen?

  • 445 ViewBoard displays were deployed to replace the failing incumbent fleet, starting with 210 IFP7550 units in June 2025 followed by 235 IFP7551 units.
  • The district secured a reliable, feature-rich platform backed by a 7-year limited warranty.
  • IT administrators gained fleet-wide remote control using Manager Advanced, solving the management gaps they had with previous displays.
  • Classroom adoption jumped as teachers stopped using screens as basic projectors and started using the myViewBoard whiteboard and Google Drive lesson imports daily.

ViewSonic proved more reliable, affordable and feature-rich than the platform it replaced. The district plans to keep using year-end funds to finish outfitting roughly 850 classrooms as budget permits.

  • A large Texas district needed a secure, centrally managed display solution for its multi-classroom rollout.

“ViewSonic covered every requirement, and validating NFC authentication up front proved the solution met the district’s strict security standards.”

CHALLENGE

A large urban school district in Texas set out to modernize classroom technology across all its schools. The project started with 451 interactive displays in phase one, with plans to expand into thousands of additional classrooms later.

The district didn’t just need hardware. It required a complete solution that fit its Chrome and Google ecosystem, offered secure authentication for staff and students, provided mounting flexibility for different room layouts and enabled central fleet management.

Security was a top priority, especially around validating how badge authentication would work right at the display.

The timing for this project was also tight. Everything had to be sourced, shipped to multiple locations and delivered before a strict fiscal year-end deadline, requiring precise coordination with channel partners.

What ViewSonic Solution Did the District Deploy?

Working with CDW as its reseller partner, the district deployed a complete classroom technology package:

  • 451 ViewBoard® IFP8641 86” 4K Android EDLA interactive displays.
  • 451 VPC13-C33-G1 Chromebox OPS slot-in PCs built for Chrome OS and Google environments.
  • 481 VB-BLM-002 BalanceBox height-adjustable mounts, including extra units for existing displays.
  • 451 ViewSonic® Manager Advanced software 7-year licenses for central fleet management.
  • 451 NFC card readers for secure sign-on

The 86” ViewBoard IFP8641 anchored each room, VPC13-C33-G1 Chromebox OPS devices matched the district’s Google setup while NFC card readers gave teachers a fast, secure way to sign in at the display. VB-BLM-002 BalanceBox mounts allowed staff to set displays at the right height for every classroom.

The IFP8641 fit the district’s requirements on its own specs: an 86” 4K display with Android EDLA certification, built-in Google security, native access to Google and Microsoft ecosystems, EPEAT Silver and ENERGY STAR 8.0 ratings and a 3-year limited on-site warranty.

ViewSonic Manager Advanced software tied the whole setup together, giving IT central monitoring across every building. Before finalizing the deal, ViewSonic worked directly with the district to validate NFC functionality, resolving its primary security concern.

ViewSonic and its reseller partner coordinated a multi-location delivery plan to ensure all 451 displays and accessories arrived before the district’s fiscal yearend deadline.

Why Did the District Choose ViewSonic?

The district needed one manufacturer that could supply interactive displays, Chrome computing, secure authentication and central management as a complete package, delivered at scale on a tight deadline.

ViewSonic covered every requirement, and validating NFC authentication up front proved the solution met the district’s strict security standards.

ViewSonic’s reseller partner coordinated pricing, ordering and multi-location logistics, letting the district run a large, time-sensitive rollout through a single reseller relationship.

What Results Has the District Seen?

  • Deployed 451 interactive displays across the district on time to hit a strict fiscal year-end deadline.
  • Enabled secure sign-on at the display using NFC card readers, validated before purchase to meet security requirements.
  • Integrated Chrome OS computing into classrooms using Chromebox OPS devices.
  • Centralized fleet management through Manager Advanced software so IT supports every location from one platform.
  • Established a proven standard ready to expand across thousands of additional classrooms in future phases.

Phase one gave the district a secure, centrally managed display platform delivered on schedule. It also created a clear blueprint for the future: with the standard proven, the district and its partners can easily expand the same setup to thousands of other classrooms.
