Sustainability at Work: Earth Day 2026 Stories From ViewSonic

How Conscious Efforts and Everyday Practices Are Making a Difference in Our Workplace

When companies talk about workplace sustainability, what does it actually look like in practice?

It doesn’t always take the form of large-scale programs or sweeping policy changes, although those have their value, too.

More often, sustainability shows up in the everyday decisions made by each individual. That idea—that meaningful change has to start somewhere—is one we embrace. We remind ourselves: It Starts With One.

This Earth Day, ViewSonic employees around the world are sharing those small but important choices that have made a difference in their workplace.

These are their stories.

Adding a Little Green to the Office

It started with just one plant on one person’s desk, but before we knew it, everyone wanted their own.

At ViewSonic India, we decided that every table deserved to have a little green, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever.

The whole office feels different now. Brighter, fresher, and so much more fun to walk into every morning. There's something magical about starting your day by watering your plant and spotting a tiny new leaf that just lifts your mood.

The best part is how naturally it happened. Nobody had to be told to do it. Everyone just started showing up with a plant and tending to it first thing every day. Some of us have never kept a plant alive before, and that’s made it even more exciting. We are learning as we go and cheering each other on.

Small pots, small routines, but a big shift in the ambience. Our little green team has made this the happiest place to work, one leaf at a time!

Supporting a Low-Emission Zone in Hanoi

Hanoi has been working to reduce air pollution in the heart of the city by introducing a low-emission zone. It set limits on the use of gasoline and diesel vehicles and inspired us to rethink how we get to work.

We started using shared smart bikes for our daily commutes. They are a greener alternative to cars and now conveniently available all over the city. You just scan a QR code, pay a small fee, and off you go.

You can leave the bike at any designated return spot in the city, including one right next to our office, so it fits easily into our routine.

What we did not expect was how much we would enjoy this change. Traveling to and from work has turned into a healthy workout, giving us up to an additional hour of daily exercise. It helps us start each morning with a boost of energy and unwind after a busy workday.

Not to mention, it saves us a significant amount on fuel expenses!

Giving Office Furniture a Second Life

We’ve upgraded our chairs around the office with new ergonomic models to help improve the wellness and comfort of our employees.

At the same time, we’ve also made sure that our old office chairs do not go to waste. They are still functional and deserve a new home.

That’s why we have donated our old chairs to New Taipei City’s government offices and local NGOs. It’s a chance to give back to the community and pursue our goal of producing zero waste.

Sustainability isn’t just a slogan for us. It truly is an ongoing commitment. Let’s keep the cycle of care moving!

Painting Our Own Pots

We wanted to do something hands-on for Earth Day, so we brought together our marketing, product, and sales teams to paint plant pots for the office.

Everyone approached it a little differently. Some designs were simple, others more detailed, but every contribution was welcome.

Once the pots were finished, they were placed around the office, and taking care of the plants became a shared responsibility.

It was a simple activity, but also a fun opportunity to collaborate and turn our workplace a bit greener. It made sustainability feel less like a concept and more like something we could see and take part in every day.

How My Lunch Bag Almost Became “Balenciaga”

Back in 2022, Balenciaga launched a "Trash Bag" tote that sold for thousands of dollars.

It turned heads everywhere and made me wonder if I haven’t been a high-fashion visionary this whole time.

See, plastic bags have a way of finding me every day. They come with my takeout lunch and the fruit I buy at the market.

While I could just throw them away, I instead collect them for serious reuse instead. I even make it a point to fold them neatly so they’re always ready for their next trip.

This little habit of mine is all about extending the life of these materials until they are truly at the end of their road.

After all, what is the true value of a bag? To me, the most valuable bag isn’t necessarily the one with a brand name—it’s the one I refuse to waste.

Sustainable Hydration in the Office

We recently upgraded our workspace by installing a mains-fed water dispenser connected directly to the building’s supply.

That one change has eliminated the need for heavy plastic water jugs and frequent deliveries. Our new dispenser has a filtration system that ensures high-quality purification, so tap water has become everyone’s preferred choice.

It even offers sparkling water on demand, which has successfully encouraged people to bring reusable bottles and cut back on purchasing drinks that come in single-use plastic.

We appreciate how this initiative has helped foster a culture of sustainability here and even streamline our office logistics. It’s a clear example of how small infrastructure changes can greatly reduce plastic waste and our environmental footprint.

A Daily Routine with Purpose

I start every morning with a cup of tea.

Instead of using paper cups that contribute to deforestation, fill up landfills, and leave a higher carbon footprint, I fill up my reusable mug.

It is a small choice, but it is also something I do every day, so it adds up. I believe reusing items makes the most sense when they are part of our daily habits and routines.

For me, it is about being more intentional, reducing waste where I can, and doing my part to help save the planet. Small actions by individuals can lead to meaningful change overall, particularly when corporations get involved and do their part.

And, as a bonus, I’m representing myViewboard while helping the environment!

My Low-Carbon Lifestyle at Work

I’ve transformed my daily office routine with a series of sustainable practices.

For example, I’ve completely transitioned from using paper notebooks to taking digital notes on my tablet, saving approximately 50 sheets of paper every month.

I now use a ceramic mug and a glass bento box for all my meals as well, eliminating single-use plastic waste from daily coffee runs and takeout lunches.

My workspace is kept clean and represents a clutter-free, low-carbon lifestyle.

Although these are all personal choices, I believe that they contribute significantly to our collective goal of waste reduction.

I’m doing my part to make sustainability the standard, one habit at a time.

A Second Chance for Paper

They say everyone deserves a second chance. We believe paper does, too.

That is why we introduced an initiative to make better use of paper in our office. It involves designating a spot for single-sided sheets of paper to be placed when they are no longer needed.

Now, instead of just being thrown away, the paper is made available for anyone to take and reuse. It can be repurposed for notes, drafts, or anything that does not need a fresh page. In a sense, we are giving these resources a second life.

This sustainable practice has minimized our paper waste and instilled our teams with better environmental awareness.

A Simpler Workspace

Like most people in Bengaluru, I used to order lunch online every day, adding to piles of plastic containers and disposable cutlery.

Now, my lunchbox comes with me every morning, packed at home with a steel spoon and fork tucked inside. No plastic covers or disposable containers needed.

On my desk also sits a glass jar I refill from the office water dispenser throughout the day. It stops plastic bottles from accumulating in the bin.

My laptop, meanwhile, connects to an external monitor, and all my tasks live in this simple setup. No sticky notes, no paper to-do lists, no printed materials spread across the desk. Everything is digital and in one place.

These are small habits, honestly. Nothing dramatic. But in a city like Bengaluru, where every bit counts, this is my way of making a contribution.

Say No to Plastic Bags 🌍

It’s easy to forget how something so small can have such a big impact.

A single plastic bag might be used for just a few minutes, but it can take hundreds of years to break down, polluting our oceans, harming wildlife, and contributing to a growing environmental crisis.

This year, I decided to make a simple switch: I started bringing my own reusable bag to work.

It might seem like a small habit, but if I do this every day, it becomes a powerful movement.

Better choices today = a cleaner planet tomorrow 💚 #EarthDay #Sustainability #SayNoToPlastic

Source Reduction Awareness

Every day before work, I stop by the convenience store to buy a latte. It has become a part of my morning routine.

But I previously worked on government projects promoting awareness of source reduction, or waste prevention, and that led me to reflect on my own lifestyle choices.

Over time, I’ve developed and maintained the habit of carrying a reusable coffee cup with me.

This decision not only reduces single-use waste but also helps make sustainability a real part of my everyday life.

I believe that even a small change can create a lasting impact on the environment.
