At the heart of ViewSonic’s innovation are the people who drive it, and Behind the Screens is where we meet them.
For Dennis Lin, General Manager of the Presentation Group, leading this team is more than a role. It’s a mission shaped by the belief that purposeful technology can transform how people teach, learn, and collaborate. To bring that vision to life, Dennis leads a global team of 140 specialists across software, hardware, marketing, and regional support—each focused on building thoughtful, integrated tools.
In this edition, Dennis shares how his leadership journey has shaped the team’s culture, how diverse perspectives fuel innovation, and how trust, clarity, and inclusion are driving the next generation of education and business solutions at ViewSonic.
I’ve spent my career leading cross-functional teams and driving transformation across global corporations in fast-growing industries. I began at MOXA Inc., where I quickly stepped into leadership and advanced through senior roles, managing large teams and driving innovation in industrial computing and IIoT. After a brief startup chapter, I joined TSC Auto ID, where I unified global teams, fostered an inclusive culture, and accelerated market expansion. These experiences sharpened my ability to lead through complexity and deliver lasting impact.
It was during my time at TSC that I was introduced to members of ViewSonic’s leadership team. They had ambitious plans to grow and expand the department, but the timing wasn’t right on my end. Still, I was struck by the team’s integrity and globally aligned mindset. A couple of years later, when the opportunity came around again, I seized it and joined as General Manager of the Presentation Group.
For some, working at a leading company in the EdTech industry might feel like just another prestigious line on a resume. But for me, it’s something much more personal. My late father was a manager at IBM, but he always dreamed of working in education. That idea stayed with me. So when the chance came to lead a team focused on transforming education through technology, it felt like I was continuing something he never had the opportunity to start.
That sense of purpose is what motivates me every single day.
The Presentation Group focuses on two key areas: education and business—what we refer to internally as a “double engine” of growth.
In education, our goal has always been to support teachers and students with tools that feel intuitive, adaptable, and purpose-built for the classroom. That’s why we developed ViewBoard interactive displays and myViewBoard digital whiteboarding software, creating a solution specifically designed to enhance teaching and learning. Today, they’re used in thousands of classrooms around the world as part of the broader ViewSonic Education Ecosystem. We continue to build on that foundation through ongoing innovation: whether it’s the fully revamped myViewBoard platform, the upcoming unified account system that enables single sign-on for a more seamless experience, or hardware developed in collaboration with teachers to bring more meaningful features with every iteration.
Now, we’re coming back to our roots as a company and bringing that same user-focused approach to the workplace. In a world where hybrid collaboration isn’t a novelty anymore, our focus is on designing smarter, more seamless meeting experiences, where hardware and software work in harmony to support clearer communication, stronger teamwork, and better outcomes. After months of work behind the scenes, we’re preparing to launch a new all-in-one solution later this year. It’s designed to help organizations collaborate more effectively and make more confident, collective decisions.
I believe the best collaboration starts when people feel safe to speak openly and show up as themselves, not just as job titles or functional experts but as individuals with their own perspectives and voice.
Our team brings together a wide range of skills and backgrounds, so it’s natural that we approach challenges from different angles. That diversity leads to rich conversations, sometimes energetic ones, but it’s also where our best ideas come from. We see that variety of thought as a strength, not a hurdle.
As a leader, I focus on creating the space where that kind of exchange can happen constructively. It’s about ensuring everyone feels heard while helping the team stay anchored to a shared purpose. When we approach discussions with curiosity and respect, we move forward together with stronger ideas and stronger alignment. That mindset becomes part of how we work, encouraging everyone to contribute openly and grow collectively.
The Presentation Group brings together 140 people across eight specialized teams, covering everything from software development and hardware engineering to marketing and regional support. What ties us together isn’t just the org chart. It’s a shared culture built on trust, respect, and the freedom to challenge ideas constructively.
Having worked across both hardware and software myself, I understand where gaps in understanding can appear. But I’ve also seen how, when people stay focused on the problem we’re solving rather than the function they represent, those differences become a source of strength. That clarity of purpose is what enables real collaboration across disciplines.
This team isn't about blending everyone into a single mindset. It’s about creating space for people to show up authentically, contribute what they know, and stay open to what others bring. That culture of openness and shared direction is what makes us more than just a collection of teams. It’s what makes us one team.
The people who thrive in our team aren’t just skilled, they’re genuine. I look for those who show up as their full selves and are open to working with people who think and operate differently. This team isn’t about putting on a polished front. It’s about showing up with integrity and a willingness to contribute to something bigger.
One trait I always pay attention to is initiative. Not just the ability to follow through, but the willingness to speak up and contribute ideas, even if they’re still rough around the edges. We don’t expect perfection. What matters most is the intent to grow, the curiosity to ask "what if," and the drive to move things forward. When someone brings that mindset, they not only thrive, they help create the conditions for others to thrive as well.
If you’re thinking about joining the Presentation Group, here’s what I’d want you to know: we value open dialogue and the exchange of different perspectives. Conversations can be passionate at times, but they’re always rooted in mutual respect. Real collaboration starts when people feel free to contribute as their authentic selves.
We don’t expect perfection. What matters is your willingness to engage: to speak up, work across disciplines, and find common ground with others. If you bring curiosity and commitment, you’ll find your place here.
You’ll be joining a team that grows together, challenges each other, and keeps showing up to build something meaningful. This isn’t just a job. It’s a space where you’ll stretch, learn, and become a stronger version of yourself.
One moment that truly stayed with me started off as just another meeting. I was expecting routine updates, but instead, a group of colleagues shared a powerful idea: using our platform to make education more inclusive and give every student a fair chance to succeed, regardless of their differences.
Inclusion had always been part of our mission, but this felt different. The team wasn’t responding to external pressures or new policies. They were ahead of the curve, anticipating where education needed to go and articulating a vision that felt both timely and deeply human. One colleague even shared their own experience with dyslexia, adding a personal and emotional dimension to the conversation—and to the challenge we were trying to address.
That’s when I knew we were ready not just to innovate, but to lead with purpose. The idea gained momentum and became the driving force behind the latest version of myViewBoard. Now, as that version launches after years in the making, I’m proud that it’s not just a product update with a few bells and whistles. It’s a meaningful evolution that reflects our values and responds to real-world needs.
That evening, I thought of my father, who always hoped I’d do something meaningful in education. This felt like honoring that hope. It wasn’t about KPIs. It was about purpose. And it was this team that made it real.
That’s it for this edition of Behind the Screens. We hope this conversation offered a meaningful window into how the Presentation Group is shaping the future of education and business collaboration—through intentional leadership, authentic teamwork, and a product ecosystem designed to serve real-world needs.
At the heart of it all is a team that embraces difference, encourages open dialogue, and leads with purpose. Whether it’s launching inclusive education tools or rethinking hybrid meetings, they’re not just keeping up with change: they’re helping to define what comes next.
Stay tuned for the next edition of Behind the Screens to meet more of the people transforming ViewSonic’s future from the inside out.
