Rupankar Mahanta

Rupankar Mahanta is a wildlife and nature photographer, traveller and blogger from New Delhi, India. As a photographer empanelled with Getty Images, he believes in practicing photography as an art form and loves capturing nature in all its colour and glory. His twin love for travel and photography had seen him trekking in absolute wilderness of Ladkah to diving in pristine waters of Andaman and Lakshadweep. The famed jungles of Corbett and Ranthambhore has become a second home to him. He loves photographing the mercurial Asiatic Wild Elephants in their habitats. His images of elephants have brought him several recognitions.

His work has been published in both Saevus and Sancturay Asia magazines, which are the only Indian publications, specialised on nature and wildlife photography. Rupankar has been recently honoured by Saevus magazine as their featured gallery member for the month of June 2017. His images and articles have also been published in various websites and forums. Rupankar’s blog on travelling, ‘India Travel Diary’ has been showcased by TripAdvisor.

A Natural History Photography specialist. He has mentored and helped over scores of amateur photographers to develop their skills in nature photography and take it to the next level.

Being an Engineer by education, Rupankar Mahanta loves getting deeper into both technical and artistic side of photography. He teaches photography to enthusiastic aspirants who want to capture the beauties of nature through nature photo walk, jungle trips and workshops. He is a mentor with DCP Expeditions which is the largest photography academy in India. He has led many successful nature photo walks for agencies like Tamron, Carl Zeiss and Delhi Walk Festival. During the processing of an image, we eventually convert it to sRGB colour space. Therefore it is important as a photographer, that the display device on which you are processing image should be able to reproduce the sRGB colour space. The ViewSonic VP2468 monitor I use for post processing can produce 99% of sRGB colour space which makes it ideal for a photographer. Colours come to life when you see the images on the VP2468. I can control the tonality in colours to be as natural as possible. This makes my life easier to present to my audience the emotions I went through while capturing an image.

In a real life scenario, it is the sRGB colour space that matters as nearly all display devices can produce colour only in sRGB. Here lies the value for money for the full HD VP2468. The VP2468 is at an excellent price point which makes it an excellent choice for photographers like me. The frame-less design does the job very well and my images look larger and fit my criteria very well. Auto pivot is a good functionality in case you want to have a full frame view of a vertical image. In case you are looking for a true photographer’s monitor, then go for the VP68.
