Community School Extends K-8 Student Enrichment

With ViewSonic Monitors

Company

Located in Paulden, Arizona, Paulden Community School strives to develop a diverse community of K-8 learners who support the concept of solid performance, while creating an environment that places a high premium on human dignity, common decency and instilling a lifelong interest in learning.

Overview

Problem:

  • Equip a new enrichment room with computer technology and monitors
  • Enable students to use Internet-based programs and learning tools

Solution: 17” ViewSonic VG732m LCD monitors

Result:

  • Large, ample viewing space
  • Clear, colorful visuals
  • Flat-screen design for a small footprint

I’m really happy because the monitors are a nice size for the students. Since the ViewSonic monitors have a flat-screen design, they don’t take up too much space on the desk, which is important because we have very limited space in our 20’ by 20’ room.

Jim Sexton, Executive Director

Problem

Prior to the start of the 2010-2011 school year, Paulden Community School created a new student enrichment room—a place where students could have access to Internet-connected computers and curriculum-based programs during the school day. This space also supported teachers, who needed computer technology to perform their day-to-day teaching activities and development of lesson plans. Since the school had no IT staff and limited administrative support, the enrichment room would require a simple, user-friendly design with solutions in place to minimize downtime.

Solution

With the expert guidance of local reseller, Technology Playground, Paulden Community School installed a combination of technologies including NComputing™ L300 network access devices and 28 ViewSonic® 17” VG732m LCD monitors, driven by HP ProLiant® servers, as well as Toshiba Satellite Pro® L510 laptops (for the teachers).

The ViewSonic monitors proved to be the perfect choice—a feature-rich solution that delivers mixed data, audio, graphics and video content, all at an affordable price. They also offer advanced ergonomic functions, such as height adjust and swivel, as well as integrated stereo speakers for a rich, uncluttered multimedia experience.

According to Jim Sexton, Executive Director, the solutions in the new enrichment room couldn’t be better.

“The ViewSonic monitors are perfect—and give us a nice, large display,” he said. “We do keep the plastic covers on the displays to cut down on fingerprints and any damage to the screen faces—but the monitors have been working out great.”

Result

“I’m really happy because the monitors are a nice size for the students,” added Sexton. “Since the ViewSonic monitors have a flat-screen design, they don’t take up too much space on the desk, which is important because we have very limited space in our 20’ by 20’ room.”

Sexton is equally impressed with the ViewSonic picture quality.

“The color is great and the pictures are very clear,” said Sexton. “Our kindergarten class uses a lot of the painting software programs, and they’re able to do a lot of very creative things on those monitors. The students are already getting very good with the tools and have no problem seeing their work on the screens."

In the future, Paulden Community School hopes to incorporate a variety of additional software programs, such as Microsoft Office and tools to help students develop their keyboarding skills. The school may expand to also include high school students, which may cause Sexton to modify the current enrichment room to include online curriculum designed for older students.

Founded in 1977 with a student body of 36, the university now has more than 2,600 students. Western University (WesternU) is one of the largest graduate schools for the health profession in California, offering 18 programs in nine colleges.

Overview

Problem:

  • Create more publicity for daily/weekly College of Pharmacy events
  • Attract more attention for guest speaker presentations

Solution: ViewSonic 52” ePoster

Result:

  • Clear, bright, high-definition visuals
  • Increased awareness of upcoming student events
  • User-friendly programming encourages student creativity

Our ePoster has given new life to the College of Pharmacy by engaging students, faculty, staff and visitors the moment they enter the building. It serves as an appetizer for the stimulating academic environment that lies ahead.

Daniel Robinson, PharmD, College of Pharmacy Dean

Problem

In Spring 2010, WesternU’s College of Pharmacy wanted a better way to inform students of current activities and upcoming club events, while also publicizing and welcoming guest speakers. The college’s previous efforts to disseminate messages via email and printed fliers didn’t seem to get the job done. The college suspected that state-of-the-art digital signage might provide just the right communications impact.

Solution

The college soon invested in a high-definition 52” ePoster from ViewSonic, installing it front and center in its building’s lobby. As suspected, the results were immediate.

“With the eye-catching ePoster right in the lobby, students really can’t miss the information now,” said Frances Kolarz, Blackboard Administrator at WesternU. “Today, the college uses the ePoster to publicize all its events and welcome guest speakers, which offers a nice personalization. The dean has been very happy with it. The students are excited about the ePoster, because they can create announcements quite easily and send them to our director of student services, who uploads the images right to the ePoster.”

“What’s nice about the program is that users can go in and be pretty creative with their announcements and images,” added Kolarz. “The software is very user-friendly, which makes it very easy for people who aren’t graphic designers to create attractive signage.”

Result

“Our ePoster has given new life to the College of Pharmacy by engaging students, faculty, staff and visitors the moment they enter the building,” said Daniel Robinson, PharmD, College of Pharmacy Dean. “It serves as an appetizer for the stimulating academic environment that lies ahead.”

In fact, the ePoster is working out so well for the College of Pharmacy, several other colleges on campus are already considering an ePoster for themselves.

Streamlined Point-of-Care Documentation

With ViewSonic® VSD220 Smart Displays

Company

Signature HealthCARE was founded in 2007 with a vision to radically change the landscape of longterm care forever. Today, it’s a leading provider of long-term care services in the Southeast, Mid- Atlantic and Midwest United States, operating skilled nursing facilities in 90 communities in seven states with more than 15,000 employees. Headquartered in Louisville, Ky., Signature HealthCARE is growing rapidly, acquiring new facilities and developing innovations and businesses to better serve the aging population.

Overview

Problem:

  • Increase cost-effectiveness of 1,000 Point-of-Care kiosks
  • Switch to the Android™ platform
  • Maintain large-format touchscreen experience

Solution: VSD220 smart display

Result:

  • Brighter screen, better picture quality
  • Faster performance for quicker data entry and documentation
  • More time for hands-on patient care

Because these smart displays are faster than our previous ones, nurses are spending less time on documentation and more time providing hands-on care.

Mike Easley, Chief Information Officer

Problem

Several years ago, Signature HealthCARE began using Point-of-Care kiosks and software from their vendor, Interactive Health Network (www.ihnet.com) to support better healthcare throughout its facility network. Kiosks are conveniently mounted on hallway walls, so they’re easily accessible to caregivers who need to document care delivery throughout the day. These kiosks ensure that patient files are continually updated and provide real-time alerts, management reports and dashboards to help improve quality of care.

In early 2013, after acquiring eight new facilities, Signature HealthCARE faced a crucial decision. From the start, the organization had been using Windows XP® touchscreens in all existing facilities, but the per-unit cost was high. As facility acquisition continued at an aggressive pace, Signature HealthCARE wanted to switch to a more cost-effective (and preferably Android-based) platform. The organization decided to explore its options.

Solution

“There aren’t many large-format devices for Android™ on the market, and we still wanted that large touchscreen experience for ease of use,” said Mike Easley, Chief Information Officer. “We found both in the ViewSonic VSD220 smart display.”

By summer, Signature HealthCARE had converted its software to run on the Android touchscreen platform and purchased its first 100 ViewSonic displays. New facilities were outfitted with new Pointof- Care kiosks, and more displays were purchased as break/fix replacements for other facilities. To date, about 200 ViewSonic VSD220 smart displays are in use—and that number will continue to rise.

“Within the next two years, all 1,000 Point-of-Care kiosks in all 90 facilities will be on the ViewSonic platform,” said Easley. “We’re also in heavy acquisition mode. We expect to add a large amount of facilities in the next year, so every new facility will now get ViewSonic technology.”

Result

Signature HealthCARE chose the 22” ViewSonic VSD220 smart display because of its size, screen brightness and ease of use—not to mention the cost-effectiveness of the platform.

“We were paying about $1,800 per kiosk before and now we’re only paying about $400,” stated Easley. “That’s a savings of $1,400 per device, which equates to a $140,000 savings across 100 kiosks. Had this technology been available to us two years ago, we would have saved about $1.4 million.”

“Compared to the Windows® touchscreens, these monitors are faster, better and more affordable,” said Mike Easley, CIO. “Our goal had always been to move to a lower cost, better performance platform and we’ve been able to reach that goal.”

The switch also has a positive benefit on patient care.

“Because these units are faster than our previous ones, nurses are spending less time on documentation and more time providing hands-on care,” he said.

Community College Gains Multiple VDI Benefits

with ViewSonic Zero Clients

Company

Jefferson Davis Community College (JDCC) serves the higher education needs of Brewton and Atmore, Alabama and surrounding communities with a variety of degree and certification programs. A member of the Alabama College System, JDCC is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges to award two-year associates degrees. The college is also the starting point for many students who transfer to four-year universities. Both the Brewton campus and a second location in Atmore offer state-of-the-art modern facilities for academic and technical learning.

Overview

Problem:

  • Maintenance, upgrade and support of traditional PCs presented time and cost consuming difficulties.
  • The school sought to replace traditional PCs with a zero client that would provide an equivalent computing experience with the same or better performance.
  • Native support for VMWare Horizon View 5.X, Wake-on-USB function and a solid product design were critical requirements.
  • High local temperatures and budget concerns drove the need for an energy efficient solution with low heat output.
  • Client devices needed to be compatible with previous infrastructure investments.

Solution:

  • The ViewSonic SC-Z55 zero client was a perfect match for both the school’s needs and budget.
  • Engineered for VMWare Horizon View, the SC-Z55 provides full support for the school’s existing virtualization infrastructure.
  • Performance, form factor, quality, pricing, and support all made the SC-Z55 a top choice over competitor products.
  • Systems support from trusted partners Howard Technology and ViewSonic.

Result:

  • Installation of ViewSonic zero clients was quick and easy, completed within one day.
  • Form factor, manufacturing quality and VESA mountable design make the SC-Z55 a perfect fit for college computer labs.
  • College IT staff can maintain and upgrade workstations across campus from a single, central location.
  • The eco-friendly design results in cooler computer labs and savings in energy costs.

This was the smoothest implementation I’ve seen in my career”, stated Hardy. “The ViewSonic zero clients were easy to install and they look great. Even the students have commented on the ‘clean look’ of the new upgraded computer labs.

Anthony Hardy, Director of Technology

Problem

The college adopted VMWare’s virtualization platform in 2012 because of its many benefits for both the IT staff and end users. Like many educational organizations with limited budgets, JDCC invested its resources initially on the back-end infrastructure and utilized repurposed PCs throughout the Brewton campus to serve as client devices. While the college wanted to expand its virtualization initiative to the Atmore campus, anticipated budget cuts threatened to delay any such plans.

In the face of a financial shortage, the college applied for and won a grant from the local Poarch Band of Creek Indians to help JDCC fund the virtualization upgrade at its Atmore campus. Equivalent to nearly five times the school’s annual technology budget, the grant has enabled the school to modernize IT resources in spite of recent budget cuts and personnel shortages.

Director of Technology, Anthony Hardy, was tasked with finding the right hardware solution to maximize the existing IT infrastructure while bringing desktop virtualization to Atmore. Hardy had a number of requirements, including native support for VMWare Horizon View 5.X, Wake-on-USB function, and a design that would stand up to years of classroom use. Given the high temperatures of the Deep South, it was important to find a device with low heat output. Performance also needed to rank on par with that of a traditional PC, while providing a user experience that would be virtually indistinguishable to the average student.

A pioneer in green technology, JDCC has used geothermal energy at its Brewton campus since the mid-1990s. It was important that the college continue its adoption of green solutions and sought an energy efficient zero client.

Solution

The college turned to their trusted solutions provider Howard Technology to help assess new hardware options. Although numerous client devices were available in the market, the ViewSonic SC-Z55 zero client quickly rose to the top. At an attractive price point below that of a traditional PC, with hardware specs equal to or better than similar competitor products, the SC-Z55 was the top choice. Hardy also found that the ViewSonic zero clients supported graphics intensive 2D/3D applications used by the engineering department better than the repurposed PCs that had been used as client devices in the past.

Hardy was especially impressed with the form factor and manufacturing quality of the SC-Z55. Since zero clients often have a lifecycle of eight to ten years, up to twice that of quickly-outdated desktop PCs, the durability to provide years of use was another important consideration. The SC-Z55’s small form factor and VESA mountable design allowed the college to utilize their existing displays and created additional space savings in the computer labs.

Recognizing the ViewSonic brand as a mark of excellence and quality with a long history in the desktop display market, JDCC was able to purchase with confidence. The school knew they could count on local support from Howard Technology, as well as industry leading customer service and warranty from ViewSonic.

Result

The school purchased more than (120) SC-Z55 zero clients for installation exclusively in computer labs at the Atmore campus. Although each ViewSonic device can power up to two different workstations, JDCC chose to install the devices in a one-to-one ratio in order to take full advantage of the product’s ability to drive high resolution displays up to 2560 x 1660 resolution. The school’s labs presently feature a variety of 20 to 24 inch displays, including a number of ViewSonic monitors and 8 entirely new workstations

nstallation was a breeze. Hardy was impressed with the way Howard Technologies facilitated such a smooth transition to the new devices. “They just swapped out the PCs with the ViewSonic zero clients, leaving the existing mouse, keyboard and monitor at each workstation,” he explained. “The whole thing was done in less than a day!”

“This was the smoothest implementation I’ve seen in my career”, stated Hardy. “The ViewSonic zero clients were easy to install and they look great. Even the students have commented on the ‘clean look’ of the new upgraded computer labs.”

Prior to installation of the ViewSonic zero clients, the Atmore campus relied solely on traditional desktop PCs in its computer labs. Today, both the Brewton and Atmore campuses enjoy the benefits of virtualization. Each campus is equipped with its own VMWare server infrastructure and network. A shared Active Directory structure allows students to create identical profiles and access their own desktops and data from either campus, as well as off-campus.

The virtualization platform makes it easy for IT staff to centrally manage and perform maintenance on the computer labs from a single location, saving valuable time and effort. Since the school is presently operating with limited IT staff, the ability to do more with less resources has been a great advantage. The energy savings and low heat output have been significant, with a noticeable decrease in the use of air conditioning within the computer labs.

“The school’s experience within only the first two weeks of the semester has been nothing but positive”, noted Hardy, “and I look forward to tallying up the energy and cost savings after a few months”. “Although the zero clients are presently used only in student computer labs, the success of the ViewSonic installation has caused the IT department to consider replacing the PCs in faculty and staff offices as well.”

Lamborghini Palm Beach in West Palm Beach is one of the largest Lamborghini dealerships in the southeast, offering a full suite of new and pre-owned exotic and high-line automobiles. The dealership, owned by the Warren Henry Auto Group in South Florida, carries a comprehensive line of Lamborghini vehicles including the Murcielago, Gallardo and Jota.

Overview

Problem: Bring multimedia digital content to the showroom and attract more attention from prospective customers

Solution: ViewSonic 52” ePoster

Result: A more interactive customer experience with clear, bright, high-definition visuals that displays the full spectrum of vehicle styles and colors

Overall, we’re very happy with our ViewSonic ePoster. It’s more cutting-edge than just printed pieces, and that’s what Lamborghini needs to be—beautiful, cutting-edge and top-of-the-line. The ePoster definitely delivers that.

Teresa Balog, Customer Care Manager

Problem

For a dealership that sells some of the world’s most exotic cars, customer perception is everything. Every tool that can help communicate beauty, luxury and cutting-edge style is a welcome addition to the showroom. Such was the case for Lamborghini Palm Beach. In September 2010, the dealership sought a new way to attract the attention of potential customers and passersby. The dealership decided that digital signage was the right choice—and found a perfect fit with the ViewSonic 52" display ePoster.

Solution

After a smooth installation, the ePoster began delivering on all the dealership’s expectations—creating a multimedia experience worthy of the Lamborghini name

“We wanted a beautiful piece in our showroom that would really catch someone’s eye,” said Teresa Balog, Customer Care Manager. “The ePoster is located in our front door area facing the outside of our building, so if people are looking at our cars from outside, they see our ViewSonic ePoster and are more apt to walk inside.”

Balog also praised the ePoster’s impressive size and innovative technology.

“The high-definition images on display are always crystal clear—they’re absolutely gorgeous,” she said. “And when the lights go down the bright colors and images are even more spectacular. It’s definitely brought more of an interactive experience to customers that come here.”

“It’s funny, people will literally stand here and watch our entire slide show,” she added. “And soon, we plan on expanding our graphics to include video footage, which will make an even stronger impression.”

Result

Not only is the ePoster turning heads in the showroom, it’s also assisting with the more practical side of sales and marketing.

“Because we’re a Lamborghini dealership, we don’t have 50 vehicles on our property— at any given time, we have between 5 and 7 cars here,” Balog said. “The ePoster gives potential customers a way to see other Lamborghini colors and styles that we may not have on property. That’s an added benefit, for sure.”

Going forward, the impact of the ePoster may soon be at work on the road, too. The dealership is already making plans to bring the ePoster along to a variety of upcoming community events, including the Ft. Lauderdale Boat Show, the Palm Beach Boat Show and other large expos.

“Overall, we’re very happy with our ViewSonic ePoster,” she said. “It’s more cutting-edge than just printed pieces, and that’s what Lamborghini needs to be—beautiful, cutting-edge and top-of-the-line. The ePoster definitely delivers that.”

Customers have access to over 4.1 million parts from Motion Industries’ extensive line of authorized brands in areas such as mechanical power transmission, electrical and industrial automation, hydraulic and pneumatic components, industrial supplies and material handling. This supply chain leader currently employs approximately 5,500 people.

Overview

Problem: Improve timeliness and quality of employee communications and enhance corporate brand image

Solution: ViewSonic CD4225 Commercial Displays

Result:

  • Excellent durability that’s ideal for commercial settings
  • Affordable cost
  • Improved day-to-day processes

Since we’ve installed our CD4225 commercial displays, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback from employees and visitors alike...Our employees are now getting important messages in a timely fashion.

John Seay, Senior IT Architect

Problem

Employee communication is vital for every company; but during times of economic and business change, internal messaging becomes particularly critical. In early 2010, Motion Industries sought a new way to improve its employee communications process—specifically looking for a faster, more effective way to deliver company news, benefits updates, HR announcements and other vital information to employees, without relying solely on the employee intranet. “Our employee intranet doesn’t give us the ability to run continual announcements, and we have to simply hope that employees will see the messages,” said John Seay, Senior IT Architect. “We weren’t running into any issues necessarily, but we definitely wanted to take a step forward technologically.”

Solution

Motion Industries decided that digital signage would be the ideal solution—and found the right fit with ViewSonic’s 42" CD4225 commercial display. Unlike other displays, the CD4225 features a sturdy bezel in a robust, all-metal chassis, making it ideal for installations in public information applications. The company soon began its technology roll-out—installing five displays in various locations within its Birmingham, AL corporate headquarters and nearby distribution center.

“We chose the CD4225 for a number of reasons,” said Seay. “Number one, we have a strong history with ViewSonic— they’ve been an excellent partner for years. Secondly, the CD4225 offers excellent durability. It’s designed with industrial strength in mind, and has a hardened case that’s perfect for the locations they’ll be in. Many of our locations are commercial, so these units have a potential risk of physical damage. Lastly, these displays have an excellent cost, which helped complete the package.”

Result

“With employee communication via the intranet, we really didn’t have the ability to do any graphical notifications,” said Seay. “Now we’re running beautiful graphics—all from a very impressive display. And when customers come in and notice these, they’re always impressed, which helps further enhance our corporate image.”

Due to the overwhelming success of this digital signage solution, Motion Industries plans to deploy CD4225 displays in each of its 450 branch office locations over the next 12 months.

“Since we’ve installed our CD4225 commercial displays, we’ve received a lot of positive feedback from employees and visitors alike,” said Seay. “Our employees are now getting important messages in a timely fashion. They know what’s going on, and they’re more aware of the company news. We’re definitely seeing our employee communications happening faster and more efficiently than ever before. It’s improved our overall day-to-day processes.”

Located in Springfield, Illinois, this Qik-n-EZ store is the newest of 13 gas station/convenience stores throughout central Illinois. A large portion of its revenue is driven by in-store promotions on food and drink items, including hot dogs, beer, coffee and fountain drinks. The store’s pricing specials change often—requiring the ability to update in-store advertising quickly, easily and cost effectively.

  • ViewSonic® CD4225 42" commercial display
  • ViewSonic® CD3225 32" commercial display

Result:

  • 1080p resolution for crystal-clear images and video
  • High brightness and contrast ratio with high-definition clarity
  • Generous screen size and thin beze
  • Multiple connectivity options; RS-232 daisy-chain capable

The advantage of digital signage is that you can deliver a very timely promotional message to a very specific target audience. For example, you can do multiple food promotions during certain peak hours, like during lunch or during the morning/evening commute.

Gary Childress, Digital Signage Director at BlueStar

Problem

In the past, this Qik-n-EZ store relied on traditional printed posters to communicate special pricing offers and current promotions. However, the store wanted to differentiate itself from the competition while increasing the eye-catching impact of its promotional messaging and simplifying the creation and maintenance of its advertising.

Solution

Thanks to the expert guidance of local technology reseller Ace Sign Company (Springfield, Ill.), Qik-n-EZ soon realized that going digital was the answer. Ace Sign Company helped the customer zero in on the right display manufacturer.

“Qik-n-EZ chose ViewSonic primarily on our recommendation, since we’ve witnessed the excellent reliability of other customers’ ViewSonic displays over the years,” said Todd Bringuet, Account Manager at Ace Sign Company. “Plus, the price points for these ViewSonic commercial displays were great.”

In November 2010, Qik-n-EZ purchased a total of five ViewSonic commercial displays—two 52” displays (CD5230), one 42” display (CD4225) and two 32” displays (CD3225)—from BlueStar, a global technology distributor. Each display offers a generous screen size and full 1080p resolution that highlight vivid graphics and stunning video with a bright, high-contrast screen. The displays offer multiple inputs/output options for flexible connectivity and content control, as well as the ability to daisy-chain multiple displays into a single network while still being able to control each display individually

“The advantage of digital signage is that you can deliver a very timely promotional message to a very specific target audience,” said Gary Childress, Digital Signage Director at BlueStar. “For example, you can deliver multiple food and beverage promotions and daily specials during certain peak hours, and target lunchtime customers or morning and evening commuters.”

Result

After Ace Sign Company installed the displays throughout the store, Qik-n-EZ managers saw immediate results. Qik-n-EZ staff members noticed how the commercial displays and high-definition video content would catch customers’ eyes and capture their attention for longer periods of time—a huge benefit over the store’s former static posters.

“When customers run static posters, they have to pay every time they’re updated; but with digital signage technology, ads can be updated every few minutes, which provides a more dynamic advertising strategy and visuals that change more frequently,” said Bringuet.

Currently, Ace Sign Company handles the content creation, programming and scheduling for the customer’s promotional advertising; but employees at the Qik-n-EZ corporate headquarters will soon take over the content management themselves.

Going forward, the other 12 Qik-n-EZ locations plan to make the switch to digital signage, using ViewSonic commercial displays as their solution of choice. Not only will this increase branding consistency between store locations, it will also ensure a rich, multimedia experience for all Qik-n-EZ customers.

Hotel Casino gets Dazzling with Digital

Bright, Reliable ViewSonic Signage

Company

Officially opened on July 2, 2013, the new Vee Quiva Hotel & Casino in Laveen, Arizona, is one of three casinos owned and operated by the Gila River Indian Community in Chandler, Arizona. The upgraded facility replaced the former Vee Quiva Casino, built in 1997, which was showing its age. Poor ventilation, outdated construction and limited floor space prompted the planning and building of a new casino—this time with a 90-room boutique hotel. The 70,000-square-foot casino now includes a 550-seat bingo hall, 950 slot machines, 36 table games and a 16-table poker room.

Overview

Problem:

  • Outfit a new 70,000-square-foot casino with all-new commercial displays
  • Balance stunning visuals and excellent durability with light weight and low power consumption

Solution:

  • 16 CDP4635 46-inch displays
  • 12 CDP5537 55-inch displays

Result:

  • Proven durability
  • Slim, lightweight design
  • Full HD 1920x1080p resolution
  • Low power consumption
  • Excellent performance-to-cost value

Today, Vee Quiva is very satisfied with their ViewSonic solutions. They like knowing that their displays are working great—and that they don’t have to invest any man hours to maintain them or deal with replacement problems. They are very happy with their decision to go with ViewSonic.

Todd Baker, City Lites General Manager

Problem

Bright lights and beautiful signage are a huge part of the allure in the casino and gaming industry. Therefore, brilliant visuals—with very little down-time—is the goal.

When planning and building its newest casino, Vee Quiva needed new high-definition commercial displays with excellent durability, stunning visuals and low power consumption to complete the build-out. For assistance, the casino called on its digital signage partner and fabricator, City Lites Electric Sign Company, Las Vegas. As a strong proponent of ViewSonic LCDs and audio/video equipment, City Lites didn’t hesitate to recommend its manufacturer of choice, ViewSonic.

“We almost always recommend ViewSonic, and there’s a good reason why,” said Todd Baker, General Manager. “ViewSonic LCDs have proven to be real workhorses and our customers know they can depend on them. We have very few failures in the field, and on the rare occasion we do have one, ViewSonic steps right up and takes care of it as quickly as possible.”

Solution

Vee Quiva wanted large-screen commercial-grade LCD displays in two different sizes that were thin and light, while also offering low power consumption.

Based on Baker’s recommendation, Vee Quiva purchased 28 commercial displays—16 CDP4635 46-inch panels and 12 CDP5537 55-inch panels—all offering Full HD 1920x1080p resolution, fast response time, slim design and excellent dynamic contrast ratio. The 46-inch panels, displayed in portrait view, are devoted to marketing—promoting restaurants, buffets, players’ club benefits, poker tournaments and upcoming shows. The 55-inch panels are used on the casino floor—as signage above the progressive banks, showing the jackpot prize numbers for that bank of machines.

“Once we explained about these products’ power consumption—which is always a concern these days—and the displays’ dependability, excellent warranty and ViewSonic’s service reputation, Vee Quiva was sold, and they’ve been happy ever since,” explained Baker. “ViewSonic has an excellent reputation, and for good reason.”

Result

“Slot machines are the money-makers; digital signage is not,” said Baker. “When casinos start cutting expenses, many times it’s with signage. Vee Quiva wanted the best value for every dollar, so ViewSonic was the perfect fit.”

“Today, Vee Quiva is very satisfied with their ViewSonic solutions,” he added. “They like knowing that their displays are working great—and that they don’t have to invest any man hours to maintain them or deal with replacement problems. They are very happy with their decision to go with ViewSonic.”

Ron Gray, City of Claremont IT Manager

Problem

In 2008, the City of Claremont had an aggressive goal to update and modernize the technology in several downtown buildings, including the Council Chambers, the City Hall lobby and the Police Department Emergency Response Center. For assistance, Ron Gray, City of Claremont IT Manager, turned to Intelli-Tech, a local, award-winning value added reseller of computer hardware, software and IT services. Intelli-Tech created an excellent—and affordable— proposal, featuring state-of-the-art ViewSonic solutions.

Solution

Kicking off the upgrade process, the city started with the Council Chambers, where they installed four N4785p widescreen monitors, to increase the viewing convenience for the general public, as well as for the city council members themselves. “In the past, when people had presentations for these meetings, we had to bring in a laptop and projector to project the images on a tacky little wall screen,” said Gray. “We wanted to transition.” Three of these 47-inch displays now reside in the audience area and one faces the council members. In addition, the desk of each council member is equipped with its own 16-inch ViewSonic N1630w TV—to further facilitate viewing. Another N4785p monitor and two PJ558D projectors were installed in a large meeting room upstairs, which serves as overflow seating and streams live video from the Council Chambers, when necessary

“Sometimes the Council Chambers is very full,” added Gray. “The large ViewSonic monitors allow everyone in the room to see the proceedings and exhibits. Plus, the monitors accommodate four different input types for driving and projecting presentations—TV, DVD, a resident PC or a guest’s personal laptop. It’s all connected with one easy, push-button mechanism, so it’s very user-friendly and nearly idiot-proof.”

The Council Chambers update was such a success, Claremont decided to take its modernization process one step further—this time, deploying digital signage in the City Hall Lobby. The team installed a ViewSonic N4200w 42-inch LCD monitor, which broadcasts upcoming council meetings, city events, park activities and other public announcements. This display is driven by another ViewSonic solution: the VOT132 PC Mini, which stores and drives the digital signage presentations. The city installed a second N4200w monitor and VOT132 PC Mini in its Human Services building, the Alexander Hughes Community Center. “This has been working out great,” said Gray. “The digital signage communicates valuable information while visitors are waiting in line. It’s an easy way to keep people updated on upcoming meetings and events—and on the rare occasions when waiting lines are long, it helps the time pass more quickly.”

ViewSonic solutions are also at work in the Claremont Police Department’s Emergency Response Center. Before, the city was using eight 22-inch monitors in a stacked array for easy viewing by 911 operators, in addition to four monitors at each of two dispatch stations. As part of the technology overhaul, the city replaced the eight 22-inch monitors with three 42-inch commercial displays, greatly improving overall picture clarity, detail and user convenience for the dispatchers monitoring the incoming security surveillance feed.

“Using ViewSonic multiple display solutions gives our 911 operators a much larger field of vision, so they can monitor many activities simultaneously,” said Gray. “Since these monitors must be running 24/7, ViewSonic quality was key. ViewSonic also set up a ‘hot-swap’ program specifically for this location, so if a display should go down, we have another ViewSonic monitor available immediately, so we can achieve ‘always-on’ monitoring.”

Result

“One thing I really like about ViewSonic is the excellent support,” said Gray. “The dispatch center is a tough place for any monitor to live—the backlights are literally on all the time. Fortunately, if a unit dies, ViewSonic makes it very easy to swap it out with a new one—I get my returns quickly, and I’ve never had any issues. It’s been great.”

Today, the City of Claremont is well on its way to full technological innovation—and is extremely satisfied with its product choices. “Overall, we’re very happy with ViewSonic—the quality is absolutely great,” said Gray. “In fact, we’re making the ViewSonic 22-inch widescreen monitors the standard for all our city staff members going forward.”

Catholic Church Increases Active Participation

Catholic Church Increases Active Participation

Holographic Displays & ViewSonic Pro projectors

Company

St. Matthew Catholic Church is a large and thriving parish in San Mateo, Calif., serving about 12,000 local parishioners. This church’s roots date back to 1776, when Father Pedro Font held the first mass on the banks of San Mateo Creek. Eventually, mass moved to the St. Matthew’s Hospice and later continued at a local public school. The current St. Matthew Catholic Church was one of the first post-Vatican II churches to be constructed and remains an architectural masterpiece in the community.

Overview

Problem:

  • Encourage more participation by parishioners
  • Eliminate the dependence on songbooks and song sheets
  • Assist with the transition to a new Catholic mass format

Solution:

  • Two ViewSonic Pro8400 projectors
  • Two holographic high-definition screens

Result:

  • Increased (and more full-active) participation by parishioners
  • Remote-control projectors provide easy operation during mass

We recommended ViewSonic projectors because they were the most cost-effective choice—representing at least 20-30% savings over comparable projectors on the market.

Luis Montinola, Visual Mechanical President

Problem

In early 2011, St. Matthew Catholic Church was facing several challenges. The rollout of a new Catholic mass format in November 2011 would mean a new English-language translation of the original Roman missal (the official text of prayers used in the mass)—a departure from the traditional prayers most parishioners were used to. The church also wanted a better way to engage and communicate with parishioners during mass

“During songs, for example, very few people were following along from our hymnbooks, due to the tiny print of the lyrics,” said Jim Dahlstrom, music director. “So a few years back, we started creating single-page song sheets, but this had its problems, too. Not only would we go through thousands of sheets of paper every week, the church was often littered with these sheets after each service, requiring a quick cleanup before the next mass.”

Projecting the relevant song lyrics, responsive readings, church messages and prayers on a large screen would solve all these challenges—as long as the screen didn’t detract from the church’s architectural beauty.

Solution

St. Matthew Catholic Church turned to local system integrator Visual Mechanical (San Bruno, Calif.), to recommend a new technology solution that could achieve its goals. After careful consideration of several options, St. Matthew Catholic Church invested in two 120-inch 16:9 clear high-def holographic screens to mount on both sides of the altar to ensure everyone had a good viewing angle. Being nearly transparent, the screens don’t detract at all from the interior beauty and architectural design of the worship center.

Powering the screens are two ViewSonic Pro8400 projectors, which delivered the lumen performance, ease of use, low maintenance, low ongoing costs and overall value the church needed.

“We recommended ViewSonic projectors because they were the most cost-effective choice—representing at least 20-30% savings over comparable projectors on the market,” said Luis Montinola, President at Visual Mechanical.

After a three-day installation, the screens were in place, connected to the ViewSonic projectors and ready for remote-control operation.

Result

“Having the screens and projectors seems to have made a big difference in our worship,” said Dahlstrom. “People are singing a lot better, and we’re seeing a lot more participation. Even having the spoken prayers on screen is encouraging more people to get involved—so it’s definitely a big win for us.”

My favorite part of the new system is how it engages the assembly in full-active participation. People are looking forward and their heads are up—the perfect posture for singing—and they are responding with much more energy and confidence. We are very happy with the entire system for that reason.”

  • Surprising performance-to-cost value

“[The customer] purchased ViewSonic displays in 2012 for Northern Edge, then again in 2013 for Twin Arrows, and they continue to purchase new ViewSonic panels when they have failures from their old LCD manufacturers.”

Todd Baker, City Lites General Manager

Problem

In the casino environment, brilliant images along with captivating sights and sounds help draw players closer and build on the thrills of what could happen.

So when the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise began planning its new Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort, it knew one key to success was installing the right large-screen LCD displays.

The casino also wanted to build a series of double-sided video walls above their slot banks that not only showed progressive information, but also showcased the rich history of the Navajo people.

Strategically located throughout the casino, each pair of video walls would require 10 big-screen displays—two 55-inch panels and eight 42-inch panels—placed back-to-back so video content could be seen from both sides. Customized videos would tell the story about the creation of the Navajo people, with each location highlighting a different Navajo world. For assistance with this complex endeavor, the casino called on its digital signage partner, City Lites Electric Sign Company, Las Vegas.

Solution

“When you’re putting four LCDs in a video wall formation with a 55-inch LCD next to it, the structure tends to get real tall, real fast,” said Todd Baker, General Manager at City Lites. “We had to carefully consider factors like size, weight, heat and power consumption.”

City Lites, a strong advocate of ViewSonic solutions, quickly found just the right solution and recommended ViewSonic.

Fortunately, the customer already had an excellent history with ViewSonic, after having tremendous success with these displays in a sister casino, Northern Edge Navajo Casino (near Farmington, New Mexico).

“They had such great luck at Northern Edge, they wanted to duplicate their success at Twin Arrows,” said Baker.

Ultimately, Twin Arrows Navajo Casino Resort purchased a total of 80 CDP4235 displays and 20 CDP5537 55-inch displays.

“Power consumption and weight were critical factors on this project,” explained Baker. “These video walls had to be fully engineered, reviewed by a structural engineer and approved by code enforcement. Fortunately, with ViewSonic’s light weight, low heat and excellent power consumption, we didn’t even have to install additional circuits. Plus, ViewSonic simply offers excellent value and quality for the money.”

Result

Today, Twin Arrows Casino Resort is thrilled with its new facility—and its ViewSonic displays.

“The customer is very happy,” said Baker. “They purchased ViewSonic displays in 2012 for Northern Edge, then again in 2013 for Twin Arrows, and they continue to purchase new ViewSonic panels when they have failures from their old LCD manufacturers.”

“Not only are the original displays running great, the casino has since bought 14 ViewSonic ePosters to use throughout for marketing,” said Baker. “They loved them for their plug-and-play simplicity. The customer is ecstatic.”
