What are the differences between TFT LCD and Direct View LED (dvLED)?

The core difference lies in the light source: TFT LCD uses a backlight filtered through liquid crystals, whereas dvLED features self-emissive pixels that turn on/off individually for superior contrast and efficiency.

Comparison Highlights:

  1. Light Emission: TFT LCD requires a constant backlight, while dvLED is self-emissive, meaning each pixel produces its own light.

  2. Black Levels: dvLED achieves true black by turning off individual LEDs, whereas LCD may experience light leakage due to the always-on backlight.

  3. Energy Efficiency: dvLED is more energy-efficient as power is only consumed by active pixels.

  4. Physical Design: Unlike LCDs which have bezels, dvLED modules can be tiled together for a seamless, large-scale display.

Note:

dvLED is the premium choice for high-end signage and seamless video walls, while TFT LCD remains the standard for interactive classrooms and individual meeting rooms.
