“Hybrid devices are nothing new but the VSD220 is something new, especially for what could be a 22-inch monitor. It also happens to double as an Android-powered all-in-one with a touch screen.”

- ViewSonic VSD220 22-Inch Smart Display
I can think of two places the VSD220 would be ideal, and I’m sure there are plenty more but these are the ones that pop to mind for me. The first is as a kitchen TV. I use my phone or tablet to look up recipes all the time (well, OK, as often as I cook which admittedly... never mind). This is great, but the small screen ends up being almost as annoying as it is helpful, not least because it times out and I need to swipe it awake with whatever digit is somewhat clean. It’s often easier for me to just print it out (oh the horror, analog).

- 2013 the Year the Desktop PC Dies
But it's not just the PC manufacturers that are preparing for a PC-less
and cloud only future. Viewsonic has been a traditional manufacturer of
displays for 25 years, however that's about to change. Rather than
concentrating on creating displays that plug into a computer, they are
instead creating intelligent "smart displays." These connect to the
cloud, and work with any device from smartphones to the
soon-to-be-made-redundant PC.

- What’s ViewSonic is doing for the channel during the month of December?
ViewSonic was recently nominated as an International CES Innovations 2013 Design and Engineering Awards Honoree for its VSD220 – “an interactive, touch-enabled Smart Display integrated with Android 4.0 OS that enriches the way consumers experience the web,” according to a release.

- Gift ideas for the office (or home office)
Imagine a giant Android tablet that went well beyond its 10-inch display, say more than twice that amount, at 22 inches. While that device would stop being mobile, if you put a stand on the back of it, the device would be able to sit on a desktop or tabletop and look a lot like a computer monitor. That's basically what ViewSonic has done with its Smart Display, a 22-inch monitor that also contains the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system. Running off a TI Dual-core ARM Processor, the Smart Display has a touch screen for navigating the interface, although you can also plug in a USB keyboard and/or mouse via two ports on the side.

- Tapping Into Digital Signage: Vertical Opportunities Arise For VARs
According to Erik Willey, LCD monitor and PC product marketing director at ViewSonic, smaller-scale and touch-enabled displays, such as ViewSonic's new VSD220 Smart Display, will arm solution providers with a new inlet into vertical markets such as hospitality, where there is a growing need for more personalized digital signage offerings that can be used to interact with customers on a one-on-one basis.

- Aiming to "revolutionize the display experience," ViewSonic unveils Android-based Smart Display
Hoping to "revolutionize the display experience," ViewSonic is launching a high-definition touch-screen monitor with an Android-based computer inside it. It's like an all-in-one desktop computer, but it's not running Microsoft's Windows operating system. Still, the display is aimed at consumers who want to do computing-like tasks such as surfing the web, engaging on social networks, and enjoying a bunch of Android apps. The new VSD220 Smart Display has an dual-core ARM-based Texas Instruments OMAP 4 processor inside running Google's Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) version operation system.

- ViewSonic Unveils 22-inch Android-Powered VSD220 Smart Display
ViewSonic broke through a bit of the iPhone 5 news on Wednesday when it introduced a compelling new product: the VSD220 Smart Display. As its name implies, the Smart Display features a 22-inch screen, with a 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution, and runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. So what's it for? Basically running Android applications and browsing the web. It doesn't need to be a consumer-specific product, however. ViewSonic imagines it being used by vertical markets for hospital signs, kiosks and points of information.

- ViewSonic VSD220 Smart Display with Android 4.0 comes to US in October, dips to $399
You might remember ViewSonic's slightly strange VCD22 Smart Display from our journey to Computex. If the sight of that 22-inch, Android-based all-in-one desktop set your heart aflutter, you'll be glad to know the finished version is coming to the US as the VSD220 by mid-to-late October. It's decidedly less portable what we saw in Taipei this June and strips out the battery we suspect most buyers wouldn't have used. For better or worse, though, most everything else is the same: while we didn't expect a change to the TI OMAP 4 processor, the VSD220 will be clinging to Android 4.0 instead of upgrading to Android 4.1 for its trip across the Pacific.

- ViewSonic's all-in-one VSD220 Android 4.0 display revealed
It was back in May when we first spotted ViewSonic’s 22-inch Android-powered device. We didn’t know better what to call it at first, but all the while hoping to embrace it in our hands as a tablet. But after playing with it briefly during Computex 2012, it was clear that that’s not the direction that ViewSonic was taking. Those planning to wheel this big fella out to the nearest café or whip it out for a quick work while commuting will be disappointed to learn that Viewsonic has yanked the battery out from the original specs sheet. Putting the two unlikely scenarios aside, ViewSonic has announced the arrival of the desktop set for the U.S. Market.

- ViewSonic 21.5 inch Tablet Screen
ViewSonic likes to pump it up a little bit every time they kick in some products. This time, they have amazed everyone by bringing a 21.5 inch tablet display to the FCC for scrutiny. Named the VSD220, this one is going to be the largest in the tablet family. ViewSonic has had some success with Android, with a run of tablets and smartphones, but they never really hit it big time. This new move towards a hybrid device is aimed at taking over the home PC segment and with the power of Android; it's going to be huge.

- ViewSonic bringing Android to the big screen
It looks like Viewsonic is about to stir the pot with its new high-definition touchscreen monitor that comes with its own built-in Android-based computer. The system, which acts as an all-in-one desktop computer, minus the Microsoft software, boasts a 22-inch screen capable of displaying images in full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution). As for a processor, we’re looking at a dual-core ARM-based Texas Instruments OMAP 4 processor and the display runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) as its operating system.

Just like we told you about sometime in May, respected manufacturer ViewSonic has just the monitor for you. The micro-HDMI video input, 1.2-megapixel front camera, microSD slot, three USB ports and Ethernet (yes, Ethernet) do help justify a space on the desk, especially for those who want a secondary display for another mobile device or PC. The VSD220 faces a stiff fight from traditional all-in-ones that don't always cost much more -- but we'll at least get a price drop to a more palatable $399 in return for our patience.
