Toys For Tots Foundation

  • In 1947 Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR founds Toys for Tots in Los Angeles, California.  5,000 toys collected during a campaign before Christmas 1947.  The first toy was a handmade doll.
  • Over the 62 years of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, Marines have distributed more than 400 million toys to more than 188 million needy children
  • Over its 18 year life span, the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation has supplemented local toy collections with more than 81.3 million toys valued at more than $487 million
  • In 2008, Marines and volunteers  distributed over 16.2 million toys to 7.6 million children
  • In 2008, Local campaigns were conducted in 657 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands
