VIEWSONIC STRENGTHENS DIGITAL SIGNAGE OFFERINGS WITH ADDITION OF NETWORK MEDIA PLAYERS AND OPEN FRAME DISPLAYS

New Network Media Players and Open Frame displays deliver options for wide range of content delivery and signage needs.

LAS VEGAS – 2009 International CES, Bellagio Ballroom 6 – January 8, 2009 – ViewSonic® Corp., a leading global provider of visual display products, today announced the expansion of its digital signage solutions with the addition of four network media players and a line of open frame TFT (thin-film transistor) LCD displays. By offering RISC and x86-based media players, as well as a series of commercial and industrial monitors ranging in size from 17 to 52”, ViewSonic now provides a broader portfolio of digital signage products to meet a wide variety of visual communications demands.

Next generation RISC and x86 media players
To support customer needs for cost-effective media players across a diverse range of digital signage software applications, ViewSonic introduced two new RISC-based players (NMP-550 and NMP-560) and two x86-based media players (NMP-600 and NMP-610).

The NMP-550 is a solid state, IP-based network media player that controls the display and playback of high-definition MPEG-2, MPEG-4.10 (H.264), MPEG-4.2, SMPTE 421M (VC-1) and WMV9 multimedia content. It can connect to any display via an HDMI or VGA input, and supports resolutions up to 1080p. Using ViewSonic’s Management Software (VMS), users can easily schedule content and manage the device locally or from a central location. The NMP-550 also features 4GB of internal storage for local playback of content that not only reduces network traffic, but also ensures the display is always provisioned or in-service.

The NMP-560 is identical to the NMP-550 hardware platform, but is also compatible with SMIL (Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language), an XML-based command set being adopted within the digital signage industry to combine multimedia such as graphics, HTML and video within content management software solutions. SMIL is an open standard defined by W3C and implemented today within Adobe® GoLive®, Apple® QuickTime®, Microsoft® Internet Explorer and RealNetworks® RealPlayer®.

The NMP-600 and NMP-610 are ViewSonic’s two new industrial grade x86-based network media players. The NMP-600 features an Intel® 1.6GHz Atom™ 330 processor and GMA 950 graphics processor, and is intended for 720p applications. The NMP-610 features an Intel 1.8GHz Core™2 Duo processor and GMA X4500HD graphics with hardware video decode, and is designed for 1080p applications. Both media players have 2GB memory, 80GB SATA HDD, watchdog timer, Microsoft® Windows® XP OS and come with a standard three-year warranty. They offer excellent performance at an affordable cost for all digital signage software applications that require an x86-based media player.

The NMP-550 (MSRP $799), NMP-560 (MSRP $799), NMP-600 (MSRP $699) and NMP- 610 (MSRP $999) will be available in January 2009.

Open frame displays, easy integration into custom enclosures
ViewSonic launched twelve new open frame LCD displays that are ideal for commercial and industrial applications such as information kiosks, casino games, hospitality, menu boards and other digital signage applications. They include power supply and 15-pin mini D-sub (VGA) video input to make easy installation for the system integrator or reseller. The products are offered in 17, 19, 22, 24, 26, 32, 37, 42, 47 and 52” sizes with a 16:9 aspect ratio; a 4:3 aspect ratio is also available in the 17 and 19” models. In keeping with ViewSonic’s leadership and reputation for high-quality display products, all the open frame LCD displays feature 16.7M colors, fast video response time, high-brightness and dynamic contrast to provide excellent front-of-screen performance.

ViewSonic’s open frame LCD displays are available immediately and start at $199 MSRP.

“Our new RISC- and x86-based media players, as well as full line of open frame displays, underscore ViewSonic’s commitment and expertise in the digital signage space,” said Jeff Volpe, vice president and general manager of ViewSonic North America. “We are pleased to offer installers a complete range of options to fit all their needs through cost-effective display products and solutions.”

ViewSonic’s digital signage solutions will be on display at Bellagio Ballroom 6 during the 2009 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, from January 8-9, 2009. For more information on ViewSonic products, please visit www.viewsonic.com.
