ViewSonic To Deliver Next Generation ViewPad Tablet PC

Windows XP Tablet PC Edition Powered Device Will Enhance Wireless Computing Capabilities for Mobile Professionals

LAS VEGAS – Nov. 12, 2001 – ViewSonic® Corporation, a worldwide Visual Technologies™ leader, announced that its next-generation of mobile computing products will include a Tablet PC running Microsoft Corporation's Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system. ViewSonic will work closely with Microsoft to ensure that the next generation of ViewPad™ Tablet PCs are premier products that delivers all the benefits of a fully functional portable PC, plus the added convenience of pen & speech input to the next versions in ViewSonic's ViewPad line of products

ViewSonic currently offers the ViewPad 1000 Tablet PC, which provides users in the office, on the road, or at home, the combination of full-screen viewing along with the latest in portable wireless computing. With an 800MHz Intel® Mobile Celeron™ processor, 128MB of memory, and Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Operating system, the ViewPad 1000 is a fully functional PC with built-in WAN, LAN and Wi-Fi™ wireless LAN connectivity.

"In developing the ViewPad 1000, ViewSonic surpassed traditional notebook offerings by adding features such as, integrated Wireless LAN module, pen support, wireless keyboard, longer battery life and integrated digital photography," said Tom Offutt, general manager of Mobile and Wireless Products for ViewSonic. "Future Tablet PC products will continue this commitment to developing the most mobile PC on the market by combining ViewSonic's display expertise with Microsoft's world-class software platform."

By using the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, future ViewSonic offerings will extend the functionality of the Tablet PC for key business productivity tasks such as taking notes, managing tasks and attending meetings.

Capabilities like these support the growing need for additional wireless computing functions. According to Intermedia Group, a division of INT Media Group, the ability to send and receive information and communications anytime, anywhere, on any type of device has not only become a reality, but a competitive necessity. By 2005 it is projected that over 70 percent of enterprises will have deployed extensions to mission critical applications for wireless/mobile platforms, spending over $50 billion.

"We're very excited to be working with ViewSonic," said Alexandra Loeb, general manager of the Tablet PC at Microsoft. "ViewSonic's expertise in displays and mobile computing, combined with the advanced technologies in our Window XP Tablet PC Edition operating system, can result in a more advanced portable PC that will better meet the needs of mobile business users."

ViewSonic expects to ship its Windows XP-based version of the ViewPad in the second half of 2002. Pricing is not yet available.
